Ok, so hopefull you all won't bite my heads off and call me a noob for posting this, but one thing i've always wanted was just sort of a general 'STUFF TO DO' list or a basic Walkthrough Timeline for FFXI just so I could make sure I was on the right track. So, just being bored at work, I brainstormed the following list.

Could you guys help me flesh it out a little more? What are the big main common goals in FFXI and at what level should a character attempt them? Or...What should a character be doing at what level? And what new ways develop for higher characters to get gil (i.e. NM, BCNM, etc.)?

Thanks...

After 54, exp in Aht urhgan areas. Better exp, less travel time, and sanction buffs. 50+, you can start doing assaults.

i don't have the aht urhgan expansion so i don't know anything about it. what would be some suggestions of where to go? what are 'assaults'?

Assault is basically an instanced mission you do with a group of 3-6 people ranging from level 50-75. To do an assault, you have to first be a mercenary, which means doing a relatively quick mission which involves going to one of the 5 staging points in the expansion areas. Each staging point has their own assaults and you can only assault a staging point that you have flagged, so eventually you want to flag all of the staging points.

You get a key item called a tag once per real day, and can store up to 3 at an NPC and you can carry one on your person for a total of 4. Each assault has different objectives, some are kill all mobs, some are kill a specific mob, some are find X item/npc. When you win you're given a couple items and Assault points, which are redeemed at the Assault counters for gear.

You can impose level caps on the assault to increase thew ammount of AP you get, or you can go with less people. As you do more an more assualts, you'll eventually be able to start a quest to increase your mercenary rank, completing the quest allows you to access more assaults at each staging point.

Gonna have to do it.

Linkshell Recruiting
Go there, start a thread asking for a LS and get one. Ask whatever questions you want of your new LS to your hearts content. There is not need to ask thirty different questions all in seperate posts every time you want something answered. A mjority of these questions can be answered without the need to create a thread. You can ask someone in game (LS are perfect for this), check many of the information sites available to you, or best yet, use the search function.

Not trying to be mean or anything, but you've created several threads of subjects covered very thoroughly by any forum and could have been answered if you had taken the time do a simple search. Almost all information especially to new players are easily accessible to you and compiled by many new and old players alike, all you need to do is look for it.

Would highly recomend the expansion, those areas average 2-3k more exp an hour. Most parties will not invite people who can not go to new areas.

45-50 collect Ancient Papyrus, Exoray Mould and Bomb Coal for Genkai 1

51~55 G2

56~60 G3

61~65 G4

65~70 abuse an old man.

I search extensively for the information I've been looking for (for a list of the sites I commonly reference, visit http://marstonia.com/ffxi) Where else does it break down by level what a character should be focusing on (besides where to level).

If qcdn is only a forum for people like yourself who already know everything then what's the point of having it at all? If you think my posts are too noob-ish, then don't respond to them...or perhaps there should be a seperate forum for early level general questions and later level general questions. What question on this forum couldn't be asked in game or shouted out in front of the AH for that matter? Reprimanding someone who asks for information or who tries to participate in this site I think is contradictory to the interactive and collaborative spirit of online gaming and of online communities in general.

Just ignore Lavi, marstonia, most of us seem to think this is a good idea. If it gets worked on enough it would be a cool sticky in the quests/missions/guides forum.

The questions he keeps posting on the forums are questions he should get a LS for and pose towards them. A majority of the questions are simple questions which could have been easily answered by a quick search and probably could be found here too (if the search function here didn't suck).

He made this thread sometime yesterday and although it's innocent enough, it could have been answered by anyone in game and doesn't require the entire attention of a forum to answer. Probably not easily answerable by an online search, but anyone with a little common sense could have given a good enough answer. The last post even goes on to give some very specific and precise data compiled from the game, but to be honest, I doubt that was very much needed or necessary.

Again, another topic which the question should be directed at a LS. LSs are perfect for simple answer questions like this and most linkshells have someone with enough knowledge in the game to give a very good detailed explanation of how, where and what to do to answer the question.

Now if you had actually noticed the dates and times on those two posts, they are within less than 15 mins of each other. 15 mins between posting a new thread is going on the border of thread crapping. Remember Isotope? Do you remember how well he was welcomed when he constantly made dumb topics? Do you still see him continually posting here? Heck, I don't even think he has made a reply to anything here in months. Does anyone remember Alerith? Did this exact same thing, making topic after topic, sometimes 2-3 topics in as little as an hour with very little point behind the topics except a quick question. For those that don't know where Alerith is, I'll tell you. He was banned for constantly making pointless threads.

Now, I have been more than kind. I directed him to a place which will help him get a new LS (I am sure he wants one considering he made it a point to mention he doesn't have one on the user profile) and any decent LS should be able to give him more than enough answers for all his questions. If he wants to make new post after new post, fine. But I bet the his welcome to the forums will get old very quick much like Isotope's and Alerith's.

No, I think this forum is a much better source for answers than a linkshell. A typical, beginners' sustaining linkshell could have maybe 10-20 people online at a given time. Many of these are partying and too busy to reply, some are AFK, a couple don't know the answer, one of them realizes it would take too long to type out a full response in /l chat, one person gives an answer that's incorrect, and the final person says, "It might be worth posting that question on a forum."

It makes much more sense to pose the questions to a broader community base, especially in this forum setting where they'll be more available to type a full and informative response. I'm not saying asking questions to your LS is wrong, but I certainly don't believe the appropriate reaction to dealing with new players is to point them to an LS and tell them to stop posting. Personally, I delight in seeing new players eager to be informed about the world of Vanadiel, and if I have to repeat myself a little, that's a small price to pay.

Comparing a new poster with legitimate questions to a former member banned for pointless threads seems a little presumptuous to me. Similarly, complaining about two (and only two) genuine threads created within 15 minutes of each other seems a little uptight. Personally, I don't see any problem in the way the OP's been posting, and I'm not about to start making judgement calls until a problem becomes obvious and can be reported to mods.

*browses list*

The mere mention of Eco-Warrior made my head explode with memories of the aggravation. Stay very far away from that one. Also, Escort for Hire ain't a level 15-20 thing. The mobs would eat you even faster than they'd eat the NPC you're escorting. Look into it more when you get to the 50's or 60's, though of course you can leech along with some high levels doing an escort at pretty much any level.

Unless you're in a social LS that does these things, chances are you ain't ever gonna be doing an Expeditionary Force. Practically nobody does them.

BCNMs come at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60-cap, not just 50. How soon you can do them depends on which BCNM you feel like doing.

Wait on country mission 5-1 until you're 50. It's capped at 50, and while it's doable with lowbies there's really no Big Motivation (like the airship pass) to try to sneak it in early. Ditto with 5-2, you'll have an easier time in the 55-60 range for that.

Do Zilart missions some time in the 60's (support can do low 60's, DD mid 60's, tank should ideally be high 60's), up until sky. Put off the last few ZMs (after sky access) until 70's if not 75. You need to have country mission 5-2 done before you can start Zilart missions.

Do rank missions (after 5-2) in about the same time intervals (somewhere in 60's depending on job role), but somewhat lower priority, and it'll be more a matter of organizing it than how much you can personally contribute. The rank 9 missions, you may wanna be 70+ for, but they're really not all *that* much harder than the rank 6/7/8 missions.

Do not worry about Dynamis at 65. While you're not useless, and can *technically* contribute, it's a lot smarter to wait until the 70's. You can't even wear AF2 until 71+ anyway. Just because you *can* do it at 65, think of it more as one of many options you can choose for endgame activities once you're done levelling. Don't worry about it while you're still actively levelling.

AF weapon quest at 40. AF armor quests doable starting at 50 (the armor items themselves are 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60, mainly just try to have the item when or before you can equip it).

Genkai 1 at 50 (collect items beforehand). Genkai 2 at 51-55 when the opportunity comes up. Genkai 3 at 56-60 (it's soloable). Genkai 4 at 61-65 (very soloable, just have to find NPCs in towns). Genkai 5 can be done as early as 66, but you're usually better off waiting until 70 to do that fight. Feel free to do it as early as 66 if you're confident in your skills, gear, and strategy.

CoP missions are more a matter of networking, and competence (yours as well as the people you go with), and being able to get gil enough to fund suitable medicines. Not so much a matter of your actual level. Having said that, you can do chapter 1 at 30, chapters 2-3 at 40, chapters 4 and half of 5 at 50, the rest of chapter 5 and chapter 6 at 60 (in all cases this is due to mandatory level caps), and chapters 7 and 8, which are uncapped, should probably wait until 70 if not 75. (Support jobs can get away with slightly lower levels.)

But many people don't touch CoP (possible exception of the chapter 1 stuff, the Promyvions) before they have something at 75 anyway, so don't worry about it too much.

If you're interested in avatar fights (and want to contribute vs. leech), you can be useful for the six elemental avatars starting some time in the 50's. Fenrir, high 60's or low 70's, but 75 is even better. Diabolos is an evil bastard and I'd advise against being less than 75 for him.

Oh and ... there are a *lot* more places to level than the ones you listed. Whatever list you got those from, it's about two expansions behind the times. Not to mention it's often a good idea to go somewhere off the beaten track. Lack of competition for your exp mobs is a ridiculously good thing.

And finally, the nitpick I always make whenever I see this ... the country mission that has you go getting magicite and rewards you with an airship pass is known as 4-1. Not 4-3. Allakhazam's numbering is stupid. Thank you.

Eco Warrior is easy bud, easy to set up just takes awhile and some dedication:)

Thanks for all the constructive and valuable contributions everybody.

Pickup Eco-Warriors were the bane of my existence every time I did them. There's invariably at least one idiot who doesn't listen to instructions, doesn't perform their part of the strategy right, and of course, clicks the ??? before anyone's ready.

If you do Eco-Warriors with a social LS as a regular thing, with people you know, who all know what to do ... then yeah, they might not be too bad. (Although you only get the gil once, and a Dragon Chronicles exp scroll really isn't enough exp to justify the time and hassle, even so.)

just fyi its /blist add Lavi. Just to jump the gun and answer that one before you make another boring and uninteresting thread. While asking questions is legit, I dont think making a list like this will be much use at all for anyone ever.

I think it will, there are still new players signing up on here...
Imo, you and Lavi are acting like asses. Its not your forum, its to share general info for everyone, just because the majority of the forum has been playing for a long time doesn't mean that you cannot answers newbie questions.
