This is basically a repost of my reply to Phraust in the event scheduling forum. Basically I worked hard to get to post 70 as a thf, and people who know me know that I rarely farm. Well I still need equipment like Scorpion Harness and elusive earrings and a theifs knife and stuff like that. But instead of farming (and i make a respectable 60-80k an hr farming crafting materials), I decided to merc myself to people who need coffer keys and such for a low price of 50-100k. Well Phraust promptly responded with a I'll help for free post. Obviously he hasn't been doing much helping because people still /tell me for help all the time. Well I recently posted a edit to my merc post with price updates and such and phraust replies with another I'll help for free post and calls me a fucktard (not directly but it was implied). Well that just pissed me off to no ends. He'res a guy who instead of helping stragers as he so urges the rest of us to do, farmed argus, farmed enough to pay for his crafting, and is super rich criticizing me because instead of farming for my gil, i take about a 50% loss and merc myself to people who need keys and such. well here's my post. just wanted to put it on flameboards as well.

whats that you're wearing? a scorpion harness? must have taken a lot of farming. and didn't you use to farm argus?
wow must have taken a lot of time. time you spent farming instead of camping lower jeuno for help shouts.
What am i wearing? not a harness, not a peacock charm, not anything uber. ok so I should farm right? yes, farm. And I do farm, and make 60-80k an hr farming crafting items. But people need help...what of them? If i had to pick between helping a random strager because they dont wanna do it the hard way, and farming for my equipment I pick farming for my equipment.
But all those people who need coffers, who can't dont have people to help them, friends who aren't high enough lvl or not enough. Or maybe these are people who dont want to wait 10 hrs for everyone in their coffer key pt to get a drop. Or maybe these people are the ones that joined 3 or 4 pts hoping to get their drop but they lost the lots and people had to go? Where do these people turn to?
How many people have you helped with keys and testis and other drops that you dont know or aren't in your LS? I'm not talking about people who know you, cuz we all help people we know. How many strangers have you helped get keys and such?
You're last post, about 15 people replied needed key help. how many of those have u helped?
But then again this game is about fun right? About community? Anyone who is at the level to require AF have at least one linkshell they can turn to, and at least 20 people they have played with in this game that they can turn to. But then why are they still shouting for help from strangers? Why am I supposed to go help these strangers when their linkshells and people they know wont help them? 3 reasons. 1, they aren't willing to wait for when their friends can help them. 2, they are too lazy to take the time to do it with a low lvl pt. 3, they have not done anything for others and so dont have people willing to do stuff for them. Should I charge these stragers? Hell yes.
Every hour you've spent to gain your uber equipment, or fund your crafting, you didn't spend helping others. Well I, unlike you, would rather have someone else gain I will make money for my equipment and crafting. Charging 50-100k for a key is nothing. Keys can had have taken up to 4 hrs of my time. The person I am charging, at his lvl (50-60ish), make 100k in the 4 hrs it takes for me to get him his key. So he's trading his farming time for my farming time. Sounds pretty fair to me.
Next time you feel the urge to get on your high and mighty help everyone cause you're supposed to soapbox, just do me a favor and shut the fuck up. Give away your uber equipment, and start crafting HQ items and put them up on the ah for cost. Until you do that you have no right to criticize me for mercing.
And from your reply post, you seem to have a pretty lenghty list of people who need items, and a empty list of completed help requests. So instead of preaching maybe you should be doing huh?
My last point, I get lots of tells for merc requests as a result of my posts, even with your "Free help" post right next to mine. I'm sure they msged you for help, or have posted for help on these forums before...wonder why they still turned to me? Because I actually help maybe?
