So I work for Knouse Foods (musslemans, great value, lucky leaf. )Inc as a quality lab technician... My normal shift is 2nd, 3-12 for 8 hr, 4-3 AM on 10 hr. Every two weeks, I work day shift hours, 6-3 AM for 8 hr, 5:30 - 4 for 10s. Currently my plant is working 4, 10 hour days. This week was my week to be on day shift. Last week we ran 10 hr shifts also. I got used to going to sleep at 4 AM and getting up around 11 AM.

Sunday, I tried to get to bed early, since I knew I would have to be at work at 5:30 AM Monday morning. Did I sleep? HELL NO! I think I managed to get 1.5 hrs total sleep that night, yay! Its not that I didn't try to sleep, I just couldn't heh. I slept fine last night, since I was exceptionally tired for being awake over 24 hrs. I get to work this morning, 5:30 like I'm supposed to. Around 9 AM my supervisor comes to me and tells me that Ross called off and she needs me to work his shift. Well, that's fine, I'm pretty flexible. I leave the plant at 9 AM, so now I have to go back at 5 PM and stay till 3 AM to cover the shift Ross called off for.

Fact: of all the lab techs, I live the farthest. Its 20 mile trip one way for me. So today, I'll be putting 80 miles on my car when the day is done.

Fact: I hate Ross and so does everyone else. The man is disgusting! He doesn't bathe, and thus he smells bad.. plus he wears the same dirty nasty clothes all week long! The man is annoying also, he will talk your ear off when you show no interest at all, he's a slob in the lab, and is always in the way.

Fact: Tomorrow I have to work 1st shift again, 10 hrs.

Fact: currently we have a wintery mix of rain, sleet and snow. It is supposed to freeze, yay for having to drive home on ice!

Someone please get some sleep for me cause I know I won't have time!

elph sleeps all the time. i'll let her know to get in your winks. :P

:( Don't you guys have labour laws that prohibit companies from scheduling shifts without an 8 hour break between?

Here our labour laws are in place for good reason. Maybe I misunderstood but are you working this Ross guys shift til 1 am then expected back for 1st at 5:30am??? Not to mention the condition you said the roads are in and the travel time ON TOP of not having enough sleep... that's major liability on your company no?

Good thing you don't work with machinery that would be a HUGE risk the company would be taking. I don't know what kind of possible dangers there are at your lab but I'm sure there are a couple things that could go terribly wrong with you over worked and under-slept.

Shift work will often cause conflict with your system. Not sure if you're used to it by now, but the fact is your body will never get used to it, it rises with the sun and sets with the moon, can't mess with your natural schedule too much without having a big effect.

Wish I could say I'll get some sleep in your name ^^.. but I have been having a hard time myself falling asleep and I'm on a reg 9-5.

Actually I'll be heading back to work today at 5 PM and staying till 3 AM. There is a possibility that I will be able to come in at 11 AM tomorrow instead of starting at 5:30 AM.

Also, my supervisor is going to see about getting me mileage pay.

And here in PA, unless you work for a union, which I don't, you have no protection. Whatever your boss says, goes. They can fire people for any reason at all.

I personally don't operate any machinery, BUT I work around the machinery.

... holy shit.. so *USA* still runs sweat shops.

Again, here's another reason I'm glad I do not live in the USA.

=(
Really sorry that's the way it is there, that's incredibly dangerous and companies should be liable to provide enough time in between shifts to ensure their staff is getting the time to rest for optimal performance which includes safety.

This is my company, but not my plant. The plant featured in this video is the "main plant" and its actually the closest one to my house.

The line featured in the video is actually the line I do QA on and that is the plant that I work at (Orrtanna).

Geez, that is so lame. Here (after 3 months probation) you basically have to shoot your boss to get fired (something that I also don't agree with because I've worked with some pretty lazy people, but at least you don't get walked all over just to keep your job). Unless there is "downsizing" or "layoffs", but they have to prove that to the government with budget/books.

The Union employees at Knouse are impossible to fire, even if they do jack shit. As long as they show up for work, they are guaranteed their job. Knouse isn't so bad though because the bi-weekly (company employees) are a pretty close bunch. Its also hard to lose your job at Knouse as a bi-weekly unless you're a total fuck up or they are doing layoffs.

well the ass called out again so I'm on night shift again tonight, at least I get plenty of sleep!

lol My supervisor would have to stay to cover my shift, thats what they'd do :p But she told me that if I don't think that the roads will be safe, I can leave early hehe

Yea but that's the job of a supervisor right? That's why they get paid the big bucks! I only did that to one manager because she was a bitch, take that 18 hour shift and suck it.

ah yay good to be home and now time for bed! I have to be up and at work tomorrow between 11 and 12, apparently Ross decided he's coming to work tomorrow.
