Getting an 80gb PS3, what do I need to know?

Must have games, must have accessories, etc, etc?

General tips about the system you'd recommend?

I think I'm gonna get Little Crack Planet, but not sure.

Games that you might enjoy:

Resistance and Resistance 2 (if your into FPS), Motorstorm and Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Wipeout HD (PSN download), Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction, Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty (PSN Download), Warhawk (Online only), Disgaea 3 (Out next spring in EU), Valkyria Chronicles (Fantastic game but unfortunately the hidden gem of this christmas), Mirror's Edge (imo), Eye of Judgment (If your into trading card games, includes Playstation Eye), MGS4, Devil May Cry 4, Heavenly Sword, Super Stardust HD (PSN download), GH3/GHWT/RB/RB2 (whatever you prefer), Folklore, Burnout Paradise, Uncharted (This one is an absolute must!!!).

Definitely get LittleBigPlanet!!!!

Accessories:

Playstation Eye (See above), Extra Controllers, and just in case, you might want to pick up an extra 2.5 SATA hard drive as you can replace the 80gb that comes with the console with say 320gb, there are tutorials on how to do this on IGN and even a video demonstration somewhere on Gametrailers.

Things to know:

The service for Playstation network is free to join, the only payments you'll need to do are with download content and in rare cases extra themes for the XMB (IE; Megaman 9 themes). The firmware updates can take a while but that's ok, you have an internet browser on the XMB available and no need for an extra stuff like a wireless attachment because the PS3 has wireless built in. I use my BT hub as the router for my PS3 and it works fantastically.

Oh yes, you can also download PSP games on your PS3 now and if you like importing things from other countries, the games are region free as are some blu ray movies (Example, Hellboy).

Anything else that can be added onto this?

does HDD replacing void any guarentee?

Shouldn't do. Its not a matter of opening the entire PS3 up, more of a matter of opening up an expansion port of sorts and doing a simple exchange. Quite a few people I know have done it.

I second the nomination for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune as a must-buy game. I enjoyed it a lot. I still need to play through it again now that they've added Trophy support.

The PS3 also seems to work nicely with external USB drives. I have a 320GB that has a ton of video on it (I went external so I could watch them on the xbox 360 as well, depending on which machine followed me during travel).

i'll up the anty on having Uncharted be amust play game... because it IS..
LittleBigPlanet is lots of fun, especially if you play on your console with other people
also Resistance 2 if you like FPSes and coop mode for the MMO player is AWESOME....

if you like top down shooters (asteroids style) and are a person who likes high scores... SuperStardust HD is a MUST BUY as well.(i've put more time into that game then most others heh.), Warhawk, Wipeout HD and GrandTurismo being the other download titles that are pretty cool.
Lastly.. and most certainly not least... seriously the number 1, spend your money on, no matter what game in my honest opinion:
Valkyria Chronicles
this is by far the best Strategy RPG experience i've had since FFT... and if you play/ed FFXI, i'm sure that you will more then enjoy this wonderfull gem of a game, it's amazing... and even that word is not good enough for it
(p.s.: japanese voice track is better imho for it)

I tried to keep this list short ~_~ plenty of other great games there tho.

Might as well add that the PSN has some downloadable PS1 titles available that can also be played on PSP.

Oh, and PS3 has a list of great games coming up in 09 too.

God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, just to name 2 or 3. Maybe FFXIII in Japan IF we are lucky.

Unless you're interested in multiplayer, I'd rent most titles; and only buy the longer lasting games like Valkyria Chronicles, Burnout Paradise, Disgaea 3, Folklore. Everything else is short enough to beat with a rent.

Not saying the rest aren't good, but they're just too short to really be worth buying unless you're finding them in the bargain bin.

If you plan to play FFXI on a PS3 you'll need to get a used or refurbished 40GB or 60GB from the original release also the only new models that can play ANY PS2 games at all are the MGS4 80GB ones.

No idea when Disgaea3 is out in the UK :(

Wait, did someone say that PS3 games are region free?

FUCKIN' A. Gonna import Disgaea3 :D

Yeah feel free to import any game you want unless you want the Downlaodable Content. The DLC tends to be region specific.

Easy way around that, just gain access to all the stores by creating new accounts specific to that region. After all, it's free to join.

At least I think that's how it works.

Well the problem is $$$. Getting a Japanese or European prepaid PSN card would be slightly problematic for me.

Well again, the point is, if you don't have access to either credit cards from that region or PSN prepaid cards then the DLC isn't accessible.
