Ok, to start off.. I'm not flaming anyone individually.
I'ts been some time in the fuming, and before I go postal I figured I'd vent.

I have been a 52 whm for over a month now, bear in mind I've been pt'ing as blm as well and helping some people out, and doing some side quests.

Getting a pt is becoming a pain in the ass. I sit in Jeuno for hours waiting for an invite as a Taru whm/smn 52 to no avail.
as a last resort I turn to making my own pt. after getting the standard melee jobs, I notice there's no red mages or paladins or ninjas to be found. The part that angers me is there are 4 other parties that Im aware of that are in the same situation. So, I'm forced to disband the pt I've been trying to make for an hour and go back to /invite. I'm sure this annoys my pt members. I get so frustrated at people that go afk for hours without going /away as rdm's or pld's or nin's or the ones that simply just don't answer. as a whm I'm very fond of the /anon. I know they're liable to have their reasons for whatever theyre doing, but can't help having the thought.. they're just being rude and not answering. I thank everyone for answering wether they want to pt or not. What is going on that there are no people trying to exp at this lvl?!

Then when I get in a party.. It's so disorganized and things are falling apart at the seams.. or there's no redmage so no dispel and we're having to rest in between every kill...

ok now the part that I want to flame about.
SE seriously needs to do something to allow for more exp solo'ing.
I'm tired of everything in this game requiring a "Full party".
I'm tired of every piece of equipment or spell, or whatever I need for my lvl to be so far beyond my reach as my lvl. ok so I need erase.. or an ancient magic spell, or whatever. yeah, I can just go out there and quest that!?

It seems lately that there has been far less teamwork, and true party playing, then I need this or You should help me do this.. or Help ME do this.. or I got my level, I'm leaving now.. screw you all, or fake dc'ing because you lack the intestinal fortitude to say it. End an entire party and 5 other people's wants just because you got what YOU came for. It's this attitude and SE's idea of forcing everyone to gather large groups of people to do ANY damn thing in this game.. A lot of this is incoherent babbling, and probably sounds like an empty rant.. which it probably is.. but I'm sure there are others that feel the same. I want to be good at my job. I want to have the equip that will allow me to excell at my job. I want exp to go further with my job. I'm tired of people expecting me to bend to their will as a white mage, and am starting to become more and more frustrated with my job.

ok, I'm supposed to drop my flag, invite them and taxi them to wherever.
because I"m a white mage. I didn't ask for payment. was it offered? no.
there was no "please" in it. Though I did get a "thank you" before I warped back.

It's expected of me.

I'm on a chocobo ... riding to town.. someone dead sees me run by.. I'm supposed to drop what I'm doing and get off to raise them.. (pre-level 30 btw) about 5 min walk from a crag.... because I'm a whm. I didn't ask for gil then either.. but I had to walk back and pay for another choco.. did I get reimbursed? no. will that person remember me next week when I call for help on a mob that aggrod me? no.

People no longer give a rat's ass about each other. It's all about what they want at the time.. maybe I should change my attitude to match theirs.

Also, using the auto translator to ask for an exp pt...
3 minutes later response is: no

people dropping pt without saying a word to join another because they're getting better exp.. because they have a refresher...

Japanese players that refuse to pt with NA players.. that just annoys me. I invite japanese players to my pt's if they fit the need of the pt. That's party playing. Sure that's their preference, but sometimes their response is just downright annoying... oh and don't let me forget everyone jacking the prices on every damn thing... I'm raising my tele prices, and charging for raises, and charging for pl'ing.. I havent before, but maybe I should now..

I'm open to your return flame now.. hit me however you want, if this offends you maybe you need to do some thinking.. if you think you were in any of this.. maybe you need to do some thinking... if I was wrong in any of this.. I'm already doing some thinking.

The 50s are pretty brutal because a lot of things are going on like AF and Genkai and shit. My first time through was a little rough. I just blasted through the 50's with ninja however. 2 things that will solve a lot of your problems is a good linkshell and/or making friends with the competent people you run across. I party about 90% of the time with LS mates and get invites from people that have partied with me also. I noticed there is a grouping of people that you will move with if you are exping everyday. If that group is not good just take a week off from leveling or so and try and get catch on with a group or so that is good. I am currently in an excellent group from 58-62 with some great NA players as well as bilingual friendly JP players. I know an excellent group of my ls mates are in the late 40's right now on 3rd or 4th jobs so hopefully a good wave of people is heading your way. Good luck.
 
OK this just might help is all and ill answer just a few

1. WoW is for people like you who cant stand to need a PT for everything.

2. No job is entitled to do anything if they are on a choco.

3. You dont have to tele them if they ask for it, most whm's i know only tele people who shout for it in jeuno and they decide they wanna tele.
 
I agree, this game is too heavily party based when it can be damn near impossible to get people to do things with you unless they want the same thing. Not that I think that everyone should drop what they are doing to help someone they dont know, I mean its their choice to help or not to help, but there is no alternative to get anything done. And yes I know that if someone could get something done alone vs a pt they would do it alone. But it ends up being a "Pt situation or you're SoL". Its too bad that they dont have a Golden Saucer like area where you can get items or be able to do things on your own, or atleast have like a 2 or 3 man pt get something.

Theres no way that a WHM can solo. People have to put up with trash parties whereever they go, and they are most of the time forced to stay cause they dont want to go seeking again. Best advice i can offer is try to get a static. This way you know who/when you are going to pt, you can get all the things you need with them and everyone ends up helping everyone else. Joining a static is the smartest thing I ever did in this game.
 
As a post 50 WHM I consider it a good thing if I get POSITIVE exp an a pick me up party. Basicaly anyone with skill is in a static so that leaves only the crappiest of players to pt with. Everycouple months I get the patiance to LFG on my WHM and every time I am swearing to never do this again.
 
Because the game is so party based it makes it different from most of the other online rpgs out there. Just rough it out, low levels suck. Once you get 70+ more roads will present themselves.
 
WEll, Mr Darthyoda, I think I PT'd with you a while ago as DRG, whelp, I'm 52, now, and my static's slowly building. We need a WHM your level. o.O Send me a PM if you're interested, ands till between 52-53.

I love how everyone assumes RDMs can just throw up their flag and have any party they want. Everyone and their mom levels RDM, so there's plenty of competition for invites; and half of my RDM invites, guess what I'm doing? Main healing because the party leader couldn't get a WHM. -.-

As RDM or BLM or WHM or any other job I've touched, I've done my fair share of throwing up my flag and sitting in Jeuno for hours lfp. Unfortunately, it is a part of the game. Try and be patient.
 
I like the team environment that FFXI forces you into. It somewhat makes you rely on the bridges you've built to take you further along the way. If people are unwilling to help, they're probably just a selfish person in general.

If you do need a hand with something, post up on Event Scheduling. You'd be surprised how many people will offer to assist for free, even if you say you'll pay. Hell, if it involves killing stuff, I'd love to come help with pretty much anything. Increasing my kill count is payment enough for me.

Very good flame raising many elements already posted, reposted, rebitched on, and re-forgotten.

I remember all through my 50's wanting to quit the game and such. Stick it out if you can. you could also level a pet job... such as samurai, or blm - something...

And if you really like FFXI - but hate PT's... beastmaster...

frist all the frist time you come up yes it suppost to be hard and the item are suppost to be hard to reach. Like it or not FFXI is a game that is suppost bring people together. Why do you think that every event since the dawn of FF has been something that you have to get a group of people or a partner together. The secound time around is alot smothere because majority of the quest you have done before. Also if you dont want to party there is a job called beastmaster which solo just fine. <just look at the amount of doing beast these days.>

this is true alot of people that are left in FF are asshats and rude as hell. Just hold in there there are still though that are chiverous.

this annoy me to try inviteing anouther j player that will join your party and have them invite other jplayer this useally works.

I save this one for last because this one one I have a conter flame on.
A) me as a redmage has just as hard a time finding a group as you.
B) if there person is not lfg dont expect them to say hey ya ill party
i will sometime because im nice or i get bombarded with tells withen .2 sec of getting on, but it very annoying at time when you are doing something and you get tells for partys. I dont like useing /anon maybe im doing a dynamis or gods or some other event and dont want to go anon.
 
So you don't like the idea of how to get AM and what not if you're only lvl 52.

I mined for a week in gusgen and bought Sleepga II (600k)and a Pentinents rope(830k). Got the rope for a good price right after they introduced it into the game. 8)

At lvl 52, you can go all the way to the bottom of gusgen and get no agro. If you have money prolems, grab a few stacks of picks, head to Gusgen and hope for gold ore or darksteel ore. This is great if you hate hunting NMs, or if you like to play alone. You can also LFG while you do it.

Do you have Erase? What Race are you? What Rank are you? What is your subjob? Is it under lvled? What is your Max MP? Are you still in Seers gear? All deciding factors of wether or not I'd invite you. (not so much on Erase, that's a luxury for a little while)
 
I just must say I just left a party with Darth and we had a wonderfully good time for about 3-4 hours in the nest. Just be patient and everything will come eventually but you are right on one thing this game is very "relationship" nessicary. That's partially why I like it because not only do I get to play FF but I also get to be social. However those who say WoW is more of the world you are looking for seem to be correct. However that said there are probably a large % of the population that can't do that because its PC only and I can't go out and get a gaming PC. But all in all from what I hear WoW is to quote a good friend thats leaving "a game I can come home and get on for 20 min and go to bed"

Anyway...
No matter what you have to find what works for you but I will always party with a good WHM (means I dont have to be the main healer) :)
 
So basically, your stuck in a rut? I've seen a few great solutions to some of your problems posted here, and yes, I am too lazy to quote them.

I can't emphasize enough sticking to the same group of seekers as long as you possibly can. I'm certain you've noticed the same 4-5 skill trades (that being tank, or mage Red or Black) in your parties several times over. Be honest with yourself. At least 1/3 of those people suck ass and you know it. When you get that invite from the MNK forming a pty and you see that one of the members is 1/3, disband. Sometimes, no, it's not better than "Just hanging around Jeuno."

As far as your troubles getting groups together to accomplish goal X, a static party can kill 2 birds with one stone for you. Hell, I staticed my DRG from 59-72 and loved it. We did everything together and had a shitpot of fun. I notice you were invited to a static by a DRG above. You ought to seriously consider it.

Just to dive a bit deeper into the "needing a party to do it" thing, that's not always true. Stop listening to all the hype, grab some friends, and give it a shot. I've done all sorts of crazy shit with 2-3 people when everyone is saying z00mgOd0rz!!1! U nEeD t3h AlL1anc3!!!!! Most people are chickenshit pussy assholes who will tell you you need a full party of 70+ 1337's to do anything because they are so afraid to loose their precious EXP. Try a suicide mission once in a while. You might die, sure, but many times, you'll win, get your item, and have a cool story to share.

I also can't help but wonder, what is your LS like? 50'ish is just about the time you need to start moving beyond the chatshell you may be in. Sure, they might be the shit at getting Kazham keys, but are they going to tank coffer mobs in Eldime? It is likley that you will be in numerous LS before you end-up in your End-Game LS of choice. I'm not saying your LS is lame or anything, but if the shoe I just described fits....well....

I'm now too-drunk to remember what your OP said specifically, but I can say that the teamwork "requirements" in this game are what you make of them. You can choose to lfg 3/4 of your time and get pissed, quit before 60 and tell all the other washouts on WoW how bad FFXI sucked, or you can be experimental and have a sense of adventure. Grab some friends, grab a weapon, and go give it a shot. That's how I use the teamwork in this game. Screw spending 3 weeks to set up an event to get an AF or whatever and being pissed the whole time you don't have it. Grab some good loyal friends, and test your mettle. It makes shit a lot funner.
 
I felt your pain a long time ago Darthyoda. I hated getting crap parties and I loved soloing SMN from 1-27 so I went BST and haven't looked back since. I got into a party here and there while goofing off with my RDM or NIN, and they all were either PL parties which sucked, or crap parties in general. So I went back to BST'ing and now plan to solo subjobs using /BST. Have you considered playing BST for a while to see another side of this game? If not no problem, just something you may want to consider. ^^
 
Well I only have one spot to adress.

You are a white mage and i promise if you wait for 2 hours to get a party all the melee are waiting 2 times as long. I understand this because the two jobs I level are thief and ranger. As thief it takes many hours to get party as ranger i get party relatively fast. One thing magery save smn cannot bitch about is LFG time.

Sorry if this has been addressed but i really didnt feel like reading all of the other people replies.
 
I seeked for pld for 7 hours once :0

And one time I got on and got an invite before I had a chance to put of my flag.

It's all a matter of luck and how much competition there is. If I'm the only pld in my range, I get invites pretty fast, but if there's 2-3 ninjas and 4-6 plds on, I'm pretty much screwed.

Just my opinion. =/
