Honestly I couldn't agree more with Darthyoda, on all points.
First of all, the party system. If they are going to force us into parties to exp, that's fine. But at the least make it so that a wider range of people can group up. Really, why would you make a partying system that requires such a specific formula that your players have to spend hours of boredom sitting on their asses in one city, hoping and praying to the gods that they can get lucky with an invite?
Yes yes, I know "But there's other stuff to do Lecan."
Really?
Say you wanna craft, so you go to San D'oria to work on your leathercrafting or woodworking. You don't get an invite, despite being rank 5 and perfectly capable of taking the airship, why? Survey says... you guessed it, because you weren't sitting on your ass in Jeuno.
Suppose for a second that you don't have a craft leveled, so you decide to go farm to fund that craft while you lfg. Sounds good, make a little money, maybe get a party invite. So you head off to Buburimu or Maze to pick up some crawler silk. Again, no invite because you're not in Jeuno. But hey, at least you have gil to spend on gear and equipment you're never going to fucking use because you can't get a party.
"So why don't you just find something to do around Jeuno?"
....
Like what? Bum around Rolanberry hoping for someone to accidentally get aggro'd on their first trip to Jeuno, so you can have that 5 seconds of glory as you unleash a WS on the poor unsuspecting goblin who attacked that level 20 Warrior? Chances of getting an invite are definitely higher here, but guess what, you're still sitting on your ass for the most part as people don't exactly trek to Jeuno at low levels on a daily basis, let alone get aggro on the way.
Crafting you say? In Jeuno? ya.. right. with the way inflation is now, the only way you can really afford to reasonably level a craft without spending absurd amounts of gil is to do so in the main cities, where ingredients can usually be found cheaper. Why pay 1500 a stack for earth crystals when you can get them for 800 in Sandy?
SO, that's our wonderful partying system in a nutshell. Great for those who either:
1. Love sitting in Jeuno watching retarded shout wars or Telespam for 6 hours.
2. Actually have a job that people are desperate for most of the time.
Oho, but it's not done yet.
Let's suppose you actually get that party. You are so excited, you finally got a group and you have 4 hours to sit back and watch the exp flow in. You have all your food, decent gear, setup looks fine at first...
But wait, we forgot that something like 60% of the playerbase wouldn't know their job if it kicked them in the face and fucked'em sideways. Chances are even if you DO manage to get a party, it's gonna suck so much you'll be praying for a shotgun and some exploding shells to just drop into your lap at that very moment.
If SE really wanted us to party that badly, they should have at least made it easier for the common player. A lot of us do read up on our jobs, a lot of us do know what we're doing. But many don't, with a game that requires so much reading who can really blame them? I spend about 2-3 hours a day just reading up on various forums and websites, studying charts, job abilities, strategies, etc. I don't expect anyone else to do that.
SE should open up the level gap. Make it 5-6 levels wide. Make it so a few more EXISTING jobs can tank. Give SAM and DRG some more DEF so they can serve as tanks should one not be able to find a PLD, NIN or WAR/NIN. Make mobs easier so Refresh isn't a REQUIREMENT for mages MP to last long enough to make a chain 5 in parties post 50. If you're concerned about it being too easy to get to 75, increase the exp required to level to 75 double what it is or something. I'm sure people wouldn't mind needing so much exp if it meant that they could almost always find a party.
Now, a lot of this ISN'T SE's fault. Hell, we're probably not partying as they intended anyway. I'm sure SE never really intended a 6 man party to exp regularly on IT++++ mobs. I'm sure they figured parties would be 6 man chaining high T low VT's. This wouldn't require super expensive equipment, super specialized party setups, or the best of the best players. Chaining T's and VT's in a 6 man party is cake. Hell, I've chained T's in Qufim in a 6 man party for 3.5k an hour. At first they bitched, but then they saw that if you can kill a T for 35-80 exp every 60 seconds, HEY IT ADDS UP!
Really, the problem isn't just with SE or just with the players. Players need to stop being so goddamn pretentious and try out new things once in a while, and SE needs to reform the partying system a little to allow for a wider range of people to be able to party together for good exp.
End fucking rant.
