Getting Help with stuff...

I just don't know what to say.. this has to be the only MMO i've ever fuckin played where the most common response to asking for help is "What's in it for me?" It's kinda goddamn rediculous. I like to help people, in link out of link whatever.. But sometimes it's like pulling teeth trying to get a party together for something.

I am fuckin frustrated with the constant mememe.. There's got to be some people out there on our server outside of a few links I know that care to help others so they don't get frustrated and want to quit.

I am in no way saying it's everyone.. but today i've tried and tried to put together a party for soboro sukehiro blade for my samurai and a few others who need it. The most constant response is mentioned above /t Kyp "What's in it for me?". My eternal fucking gratitude is the best I can really offer other than a bit of fun. The only way it's really picked up is I offered 1,000,000 (All my saved gil pretty much) and that got people.. but they just wanted money.. after I told them cop 3-5 or greater.. they disband.

Like I said, in no way do I mean everyone, but I asked for three hours in shout in Lower Jeuno with almost no response.. I mentioned the mil and I got 10 responses in under 3 minutes. It's just sad. :(
 
Don't be too shocked when people don't offer to help with something they don't recognize. Most people don't even know what that GK is, and when they find out the zone is level capped, you'll loose even more help. Very few people are willing to go out and buy a set of gear for a level 50 capped area, so you pretty much have to rely on people that still have it from when they did the mission there, and sadly, there aren't enough people that far into CoP to be familiar with it.

I see it as less of a "What do I have to gain from this?" issue, and more of a "I have to do all that?!" issue. It's certainly one of the harder things to gather people together for.
 
I think you're having trouble with that particular one just because most people arent that far on CoP. A lot of the nicer folks may not have a 75 and the general agreement is you do promys then wait till 75 and power through the rest of it.
 
Well, I am looking for this sword for samurai because it will pretty much set me up until Hachiman gear. I still have to do AF but I can do most of that alone. As it stands my CoP Static wants to stay together and only do these about once per week as it's all we have time for.

It probably is less an issue with gil, but that's the only way I got a response.
I got one going last night, 2 of them dropped. But then people started getting tired and wanted to leave and whatnot which is perfectly understandable. I wish I could offer more I would.. if I could buy the gear I would.. I just haven't been so lucky with it.

Trying to get this sword since I found out about it and started leveling samurai again, That was about 4 months ago now. Finally beat Diabolos and now I want to get it done. It's a very rare thing when I don't try to solo something first.. but I already know this is far beyond anything I can do alone.
 
I dont help anyone for free anymore because I rarely got help in return by those same ppl. Some of those ppl are also ungreatful when they do get it. I simply just want to play this game and relax, and yet there are times I get buged too.
It's rare to find ppl that'll actually be there when you need them. The ones that are, are my friends and I help them when i can. As for people i dont know, sorry but I'mma need to find something for myself to want to do it~
 
I've been on since NA release, spent most of my time helping people. My highest job is level 60 paladin. I rarely ask for any sort of help outside the link because we can usually put something together without the need to involve others.

I just don't understand that sort of attitude in the game. It should never be made to be impossible to put groups together for something. That's very bad design. At least my game design books say so...
 
Kyp, I saw your shouts, I would've been happy to come if I had access to site B01.

yea chpal asking you for help isn't usually the best thing to do :P if anyone needs any help from me i will gladly give it to them if i have the time and the requirements look me up :D take care

Trouble is.

1. Greed (I need money I need money!!! I'm poor!!)
2. Investment of time. (If I spend my next 2-5 hours helping you, what do I get out of it?)

Should those 2 issues be resolved, then everyone should have fun helping each other.

In the same principle in real life, no one really does anything for free. This of course doesn't apply to really close friends, relatives or family.
 
This G Katana is a pain in the ass to get. I have a lot of admiration for anyone that went through all the trouble to get it.

That being said...

I must admit that if I didn't know you in real life, on this particular quest, I probably wouldn't help for free.

Still, I wouldn't ask for a mil... If you were some random dude, I'd make you buy my supplies and the rest of the gear that I needed for lvl 50 cap, then I'd help.

I'd also give you the gear back when we were done.

You should wait till wednesday or thursday... I might be able to bring some help with me on those days.
 
I've finally started getting some response I have most of the group together out of nowhere. So I suppose this is moot. Some still want the money but I am lacking 3 people with stun and 2 ninja.
 
Friendship is a very very important thing to have in FFXI. 'nuff said :sars03:

If you think your comp can handle it (ha!) you can log on to my account in a 2nd window and take that with ya for stun.

I realized that DarkMagnus, and I thank you for being one of those folks. This flame was written much earlier in the day. I did have a lot of people sending me tells with things like "What's in it for me?" which I understand wanting something for your time.. it's just that this is almost all I ever see these days when I play. A lot of the MMOs i've played in the past people would help and not think twice about it.
 
I'm happy to help people with quests and whatnot; anyone who knows me can back that up. However, you can't always expect me to drop what I'm doing to help you out with something. As with a lot of people, time is limited and already dedicated to something. The best thing to do is to post on the boards and schedule something.
