Getting started...

Hello everyone, I just wanted to get some quick advice...

WEll, it's almost time for me to start playing...but 20 hours into patch downloads...im at 75%. I guess thats good, ya? Well, I was hoping I could throw a few idaes out there and see if any FF11 vets wanna pit in their imput on them. Also, asking for any beginning advice.

First, I was planning on starting as a monk, since I wouldn't have to use valuable Gil at such a low lvl. on weapons, and could save up my gil until I become a thief. I was also wondring if it would be a good idea to get all of the basic jobs to a certain lvl.(i was thinking 20) I thought this was I would have a wider array of choices tha lvling as just two jobs.

On to my queus. As para my above "strategium" I have NO idea how fast/easy I'm going to be leveling up. Im used to playing Ragnarok Online, in witch every level up to thirty or so counts for nil, and is fairly easy to obtain. Also, for comparisons sake, are items in FF11 as expensive as RO? Or if a comparison cannot be made, do items (mainly the ones sold by PC's) tens to be expensive? I know money is a large part in MMORPG's, and I find it critical to gather as much advanced knowledge as my brain wil cram in.

welcome to the community^^. anyways, about lvling up the different jobs. Its easy to get to lvl 10, i can say that. U can solo it easy, maybe even to lvl like 7 or so in an hour or 2. After 7 tho, monsters tend to get a bit stronger, and there more downtime. And once u hit that 10 mark, u start leveling up in the dunes....

now about the dunes... Newbs are EVERYWHERE, i can say that right now. that place makes it very very difficult to get a job to 20, since so many people have no idea what to do.

But i fully support ur lvling up of a wide variety of jobs. I was one to do taht too, and people respected me more when i got to 20+. why? because thats when u get ur Subjob, and u can always tell the newbs because... when they're running around with a 20whm/1blm....yea.... 'nuff said.

As for the money, it depends where u start.

Bastok: bee chips sold in stacks on the AH are the way to go
Windy: Silks from crawlers
Sandy: Fire crystals from orcs

profits from those will keep u well enough funded until ur buff enough to move on to bugger areas.

instead of wasting money on alot of gear, there are quests in teh starting cities that reward you with armor/gl/wpns. thats prollly the best way to go.
also when starting out, keep all of the stuff that you find on your kills and sell it to NPC or AH

Basically I would recommend trying out every basic class. Remeber to get and keep Signet active. In the process you will get a small feeling for the jobs and you will get to reap drops and crystal sales. Plus you'll not have to use your beginners gear until you unlock advanced jobs. My personal recommendation (and how I am leveling an alternate character currently) would be:

Warrior to 7 (First armor upgrade is usually to Leather Armor)
Red Mage 7 (Again leather armor)
Thief 7 (Again leather armor)
Monk 8 (First armor upgrades are around this level)
White Mage 8 (First armor upgrades are around this level)
Black Mage 8 (First armor upgrades are around this level)

Now there are things you could buy before these levels that would give you maybe 2-3 more defense or a couple of stat bonuses but fights are easy up to this point and you really won't have too much trouble.

Right now on my Alt I have War, Mnk, and Thf leveled to those recommendations and he has made ~60,000 gil already. The only money I have spent is for the basic level 1 weapons, from the NPC vendor, for the various classes and I have purchased magic scrolls that my Red Mage will need through level 7. I am expecting to have close to 90k once I get all 6 basic classes through to those levels and then will invest it into a craft, HELM, or Fishing. I haven't decided yet.

There's something people seem to easily forget when it comes to money... you have to work hard for it to get a decent amount. Yes, farming start-of-game things like Fire and Silk brings in a lot of money (for the expenses involved), there are better ways. Some of the best money is made in crafting, and it's a good way to help others too... being able to make things (such as food) when you need it is a pretty handy thing to do.

Agreed...please consider a more advanced N.A. server as for they are more mature and in the long run (endgame) it will pay off. Like Davio said this server sucks. I would suggest Valefore or Bahamut to name a few.

My suggestion: Play each class to 10 before you decide what you want to do. Get the mechanics of each of them down and you can easily figure out what role in the parties you want to play. Just starting out, however, I suggest leveling monk first, and then warrior. Monk has the easiest time leveling because of their high natural defense and strength. As for race choice, if you know you want to melee and NEVER mage, go for Galka, otherwise, go for Hume or Mithra (manthra :lol as they have good balances of stats. If you can find a linkshell willing to take you in at as a low level, you'll pick things up quick. All in all, good luck. Don't worry about what people say about our server problems, because almost all of them have similar/worse ones.

The ones I stated are great. But if you are teenager and like acting gay, talking shit, and getting your face owned by the JP, and gil-sellers galore this server is for you! :roll:

Strid is right.. when it comes to NA LS and such.. Quetzalcoatl is nothing to really be proud of (comparatively). However.. I'll stick around just cause I like some of the people on the game and would love to one day see a LS like the order of the blue gartr arrising. (Ascensions is the best candidate I'd think with the capability of pwning things like the order of the blue gartr. Though I think all the HNM/God LS have the capability of being that good.. just let petty things get in the way and let greed get in the way). What strid is wrong about.. is that there are gilsellers on every server XD we aren't special in that way... and the JP "threat" is only gonna be around for a short time. More and more JP players are quitting the game and getting bored with it or have done everything. If you haven't noticed you'll see that some from way back are gone now and left. I doubt Serise, Lucifar, Rooi, Varess, Cashell, Ailia, Riese (or whatever), Asahina, and a few others won't be leaving any time soon unless they get banned. But for the most part.. their "threat" will dwindle in time and eventually they'll prolly be down to 1 JP LS that does Gods/HNMs and they won't be able to cover them all at once during a server reset XD anyways.. that's just a theory of what I think will happen

Phoenix is pretty bad comparatively, and seeing teh prices of some other servers, its crazy. 15 mil for a Scorps, 50 mil for a PCC. The prices are out of control on ALL servers. I guess we either need to wait it out, or see if we can find a new game that doesn't resemble the letters W or O or W.

Actually we are one of the worst servers in this part as well...Alot of others don't have a huge problem like we do in this area. Of course every server will have them but not as bad as others and ours.

Watch...they all come back eventually if they still control. Many leave for a while and return on another job or character etc. etc. They probably will outlast us in the long run if things keep up. As for the old timers you named they will always be around and will always run things...until SE gets their act together and follows through with the TOS to the JP's as equally as they do us. That would be quiet a ballsy thing to do on SE's part and will probably never happen.

See the prices of items mean nothing of how good the server is. People bitch about inflation when in fact what's to bitch about? Most likley when things go up so does things linked to them hence more money where it use to not be. Things are cheaper on our server but economy really doesn't do a server much justice in the end. In the end it's all about HNM $$ and R/Ex items in which we are still behind on A LOT and will always be unless our community ( as a whole) changes. However, the hardheaded and egotistical serves the majority on this server so I do not see it changing anytime in the next year or two...if ever.
