That time of year again ^^ anyone have a ghost story to share?

I have an interesting one. It involves the house I live in. I never questioned why the last three owners lived in the house for less than one year, maybe I will look into that: p

Here is the history of the house. It was built in 1890 and is most likely the original farmhouse to my area. It has a stone foundation and maze like basement, which my dog has never been in, he refuses to enter the basement. In the back woods behind the home are several graves, marked with only crosses. I have assumed they were pet graves... or at least I hope they are.

The first odd occurrence happened within a few months. I was in the shower and startled by someone yelling, “Mama”. I jumped from the shower and found no one in the house, eventually chalked it up to some kid walking by and screaming so loud it went thru closed windows and a closed bathroom door.

Besides some noises at night, all was calm for about a year, and then I got a new hot tub cover recently and decided to store the old one under the house, in this part of the basement that is sealed off. This part of the foundation is dirt. The sealed area was opened by removing a fake wall. The hot tub cover over was laid over the dirt, thinking it will act as insulation.

About 630 am the following morning I woke from the realist dream, I was dreaming someone got into my bed and snuggled up to me. They pulled the covers up over me. I woke up startled and well with the covers up to my chin. Just a dream that felt extremely real. I have to live here so I am trying to think rational.

I go downstairs and on the way to the kitchen, I pass the cellar door. It’s open… I never leave it open. I close the door & proceed to make coffee and get ready to walk the dog. I walk by the cellar on the way out and the freaking door is wide open again. I was tired and had been freaked out by the dream so thought, maybe I didn’t close it, and I just kept walking into the kitchen earlier. Me and the dog head out for a long walk and when we get home he doesn’t want to enter the house. I walk ahead and pull his leash and when I enter the house, the damn door to the cellar is wide open. I was so scared I grabbed the phone in the entranceway and stayed outside for over an hour. After I was calmed down and thinking rationally, I blamed it on the door hinge being old and the cats using their pet entrance door, which was enough force to open the door. Odd though, the door has never done this again.

A couple weeks ago, I am playing the radio and cleaning. I was downstairs and kept hearing banging. I turned the radio off and it was quiet. Back to the cleaning, I went, only to hear the banging start again and it was coming from upstairs. I have a golden retriever that would follow me thru fire he is so loyal but he was nowhere to be found. I walked to the edge of the stairs and the noise stopped. I must be getting really freaked out living here because I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. When I got to the top of the stairs, I saw my golden retriever sitting in the middle of an empty spare bedroom. He was holding up his paw as I taught him to, when he wants a treat. I left him there and stayed downstairs the entire day, screw cleaning upstairs lol.

A few nights ago, I woke up to some strange radio playing, no clue whose or where but it was like an old talk show they use to have. I unplugged my radio alarm clock thinking it was malfunctioning and was picking up a CB or a neighbors wireless. The noise continued for several hours.

Last night I woke to the sound of running up and down the stairs outside my room. I guessed immediately it was the damn dog and got up to go yell at him to lie down. When I opened my bedroom door, he wasn’t around. I went downstairs and found him sleeping peacefully on my couch. I spent some time down there also; until I convinced myself, it was my imagination. I am sure there is a logical explanation….

Just think of it this way, as far as you know the people who used to live there don't want to harm you, and if they did they would have done so already. Instead of being freaked out, just accept that there are others and the noises may go away.

I'm pretty sceptical when it comes to ghosts etc however i've had one "experience" before that at the time I thought nothing of till I spoke to my Grandad.

I was out on my paper round one morning, it was just below freezing so I was riding my bike slowly. Anyway I was going past this big old house on the main road, I think it must be one of the oldest houses in the village. As I went past I saw an old man on the pavement pushing a wheelbarrow full of twigs. Now i've seen some eccentric old people here before but pushing a wheelbarrow full of sticks around at 6.30am takes the biscuit. Naturally I turned around to get another glance and well the guy had gone. Now when I saw him as I rode past he was frail and walking extremely slow. I turned back about 2-3 seconds later and he had disapeared. It's not like there was a side road or something he could of turned down or anything. He had literally vanished into thin air.

See I always thought ghosts were meant to be hazy and translucent. However this guy just looked exactly like a real person. Anyway I just put it down to me seeing things. Later that day I went to my grandad's and I don't know why but I told him about what had happened he said "Oh that sounds just like <insertnameherethati'veforgot>.". "Oh so i'm not seeing anything then Pop?" "Erm he died years ago".
