Gimp mages vs. melees

HEY blm's in my LS's who don't have em yet! GO GET YOUR MERITS!!!

I have tried with friends for 3 months to get my SEA but can not get it as people quit to much got past promy vhaz thats all >.<

Most whms are just exp leeches. I can't count the number of times when I lvled rdm to 75 that if there was a whm in the pt I did everything while he/she casted cure5 and maybe a haste then rested with 90% mp ; or blms that wont sleep/stun, because sleep is the rdms job and letting the gob toss its bomb killing someone everytime is much better (whm feels casting barfire is a waste of mp and blm is only there to nuke not assist the dieing pt members).

"CureV is so cool, I will wait until the melee/tank are in red before curing them. Oops... tp move, tanked just died because he/she only had 154 hp. My bad."

Most people don't get Sea overnight. It's not sky. 3 months is nothing.

Some people fly right through the CoP missions. But they tend to have a talented tight group beforehand.

But as far as the majority is concerned, CoP is no cakewalk. Especially if you're in pick-ups.

I just recently joined a sky shell and have to say I've been quite surprised by what I've seen so far. I am someone who takes pride in being a good whm (I'm not perfect...but I LIKE my job and do the best I can.) I was astounded my first day to see another whm who melee'd (don't really care...it's just farming...but at the expense of EVERYTHING else?) they cast PROTECT (not protectra) IV on themselves and hasted themselves. NEVER cast a bar spell. FREAKING UNBELIEVABLE!! I've also had to ASK for refresh despite being the only WHM in a group of 10.

1) Check monster elemental weakness
2) Check monster HP level
3) Gauge TP levels of melees
4) cast Thunder IV

What's wrong with this? This isn't stupid BLMs, this is SE's elemental system sucking. There's no reason to cast a mobs' weakness over Thunder IV majority of the time. There's no damage increase, and excluding a few high resist mobs (sup gods), Thunder IV lands just fine on everything.

But otherwise, I completely agree. I never really think I'm that great, but when I look around and see how much other BLMs SUCK it really makes me sad.

My point with it was that they don't care about anything else. No stun, no drain, no aspir, no MB'ing when melees do a SC.

This is one of the reasons why i don't really show 'too much' respect towards mages who reach 75... It doesn't seem as much as a big deal as it does towards a DD melee. I always thought as mages as 'if you don't have a lotta time to play FFXI, then be a mage so you don't worry about party invites.' But that's just me. But yes.. there are good mages out there... They're just an edangered species.

I've seen blms that once they learned a higher tier ele spell like learning Aero IV... all lower Tier spells get thrown out the window. A Good whm will understand the power of Regen and low tier Cure Spells, A good Red Mage will understand the secrets of adaptation and flexibility and MP conservation.

This was almost similar to how when i first started this game so many years ago.. lotta ppl wouldn't invite drgs to parties post 50 because 'they sucked.' When the problem was... a lotta ppl who played drg back then weren't good at it.. and so ppl thought: well.. since the last 3 drgs i had in my party sucked.. that must mean all drgs suck. =/ I also remember back then that the only reason a lotta ppl lvled rdm was for AF hat, lol ^^;

DD jobs have it so tough because there are so many of us out there and the expectations are so high that if we don't meet or exceed them, we are easily replaced. Everyday DD have to evolve and get better in order to hold their status as a 'good DD' or someone you'd reinvite back into your party if you decide to make another. Can the same be said for mages?

Top jobs i respect the most are, 'True' Beastmasters and Dragoons.

Remember, dis the player, not the job ^^

Naw, its not only the fact that DRG's suck :p its that most people only consider the damage done by the DRG himself/herself. DRG's can parse just fine in exp parties.

i was just talking about drgs way back in the day, uzor.. that is all.. ^^ Same thing could be said for mnks back then.. but ppl figured out how good they can be when you stop fighting crabs, beetles, and other hardshell/pure defense mobs, lol

and also.. i hate whms who wait til yo'ure almost red in health and then stick a Cure V on you. They should pick another job.. If the tables were turned.. they wouldn't like it either.

It's too bad for the good mages, the bad ones make most melee only players see all mages as teh sux or lazy. I guess in most cases mages leech there way to 75 more than melee do, but id say the only jobs that can fly to 75 with little effort are brds and whms.

RDMes... RDMes have an easy time too

I'm not going to respond to the bulk of this thread because it seems like a lot of irrelevant venting towards general groups based on specific players no one is willing to even name.

But I'll say this much. To mages, gear affect performance far less than melees. For melees, skill affects performance far less than with mages.

If you're a shitty player with lots of time to get good gear, then be a melee.

If you're a skilled player without any time to get good gear, be a mage.

I think a lot of people are somewhat unskilled, but they play jobs like MNK and DRK where you can't really tell because the functions are their job are so basic all you can judge them on is gear. Then to mages gear has far less affect. I can be totally naked, no weapon even and still have a lot of affectiveness compared to a completely naked melee. Even with food, we can get a few INT as BLM, maybe some MP as WHM and hMP. Melees get accuracy and attack bonuses.

So between getting faster invites(for lower levels) than melees which is going to cause players to be less motivated to get better gear, and the fact that the gear doesn't make as much difference as melee gear does, it's not surpringly that mages have generally lower standards.

As well, players who are extremely rich tend to prefer melee jobs so they can buy very useful gear and stand out.

Play a monk whos emphasised Chakra to a fairly high amount, only to be curebombed as soon as you lose 200 HP. You'll wish for those Red Health Cure V whitemages.

Well, the way it is working out, all the melee are leveling second jobs and are doing mage jobs this time around. You need mages who show up every time, and let's face it, how many sky farmings have you gone 15 drk/mnk/thf/drg in your alliance and 1 whm 1 rdm and 1 blm.

Then when it comes time to do gods or gil possibilities you have 6 BLM 3 RDMs 5 WHM all wanting a genbu shield or some dumb shit.

Well, just wait for those 15 drk/mnk/thf/drg to get their mages up and all the mages who showed up for the events are going to be waiting in a long line for gear because all the other players will be in need and will actually use it to benefit the LS.

Good, then maybe that 1-2 mage that's always there can play another job for once so you can't shaft them for gear saying they shouldn't get it cause they never come that job.

Ya, then the MNKs that actually leveled MNK first can get a BB, instead of leveling MNK just because they already got the items just on the strength that they picked the right job first.

I don't know how many mage turned mnk there are walking around with BBs, but I can come up with 4-5 without even thinking about people I don't associate with.

So because they leveled their mage job before they leveled MNK they aren't allowed to get a black belt until every other monk on the server gets one?

Or rather, it's ok to level a more useful job to get gear you want on your less useful job - but it's not ok to level another job and expect gear on it if you already have a useful job levleed?

No, but a friend of mine was 2/3 BB items before he even hit 50 because his job was one that got picked by one of the top LSs on our server.

While I'm happy he has a BB and 75 MNK now, it still bugs me that there are long time MNKs out there who won't even get a shot at one because they didn't LV the right job.

Just like the BLM who wants gear for his melee job, but has to wait while the mains get their gear first, then leave, and the new mains get their gear first.

I had the same prob as a RNG, I wasn't getting any DRK gear except the e.abj no one wanted, the N. was going to THF and full time DRK/WAR/whoever else.

The gear should go to the guy who earns it. Leveling a job that's useful to a LS is what will get you into the LS. Mages are needed because many are required and few people want to play them. The more you disrespect mages, the less people will want to play mages and be disrespected, the more in demand the mages will be.
