Some of you may have already seen this, but if you haven't:

No, this isn't some Army prank gone horribly wrong. Rather, when his post came under attack, the soldier on the left leaped out of bed and started fighting the second he heard gunfire. Without time to don his uniform (or body armor, by the looks of it), he ended up fighting in his underwear.

It takes a special kind of courage to face bullets in your boxers.

Give the kid a medal... and a pair of pants.

pants first.. please

I wonder how what the taliban is thinking right now "were getting our ass kicked by a guy in his boxers" lol

Unfortunately, after the release of these images, this poor soldier's use of pink boxers has violated the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. He was later court-martialed.

...lol, but really, takes some kind of awareness to be able to wake up and start firing an automatic weapon, much less with good aim. I can hardly aim my own "weapon" into the toilet in the morning.

either that or the jackass who fired his weapon to pretend that they were under attack

so are sneakers standard army issue for footwear these days?

I'm very tempted to call bs on the fact that they're wearing sneakers but it's honestly possible in smaller posts like this might be. I'd still like a link to source/reputable article.

If it does happen to be true, bravo. I don't really think it takes that long to don pants and boots though. I wouldn't ever personally run out to a position such as that without boots, as the feet are extremely important.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday praised an Army soldier in eastern Afghanistan who drew media attention this month after rushing to defend his post from attack while wearing pink boxer shorts and flip-flops, Reuters reported.
Gates said in prepared remarks that he wants to meet the soldier and shake his hand the next time he visits Afghanistan.
"Any soldier who goes into battle against the Taliban in pink boxers and flip-flops has a special kind of courage," Gates said in a speech to be delivered in New York.
"I can only wonder about the impact on the Taliban. Just imagine seeing that: a guy in pink boxers and flip-flops has you in his cross-hairs. What an incredible innovation in psychological warfare," he said.
Army Specialist Zachary Boyd, 19, of Fort Worth, Texas, rushed from his sleeping quarters on May 11 to join fellow platoon members at a base in Afghanistan's Kunar Province after the unit came under fire from Taliban positions.
A news photographer was on hand to record the image of Boyd standing at a makeshift rampart in helmet, body armor, red T-shirt and boxers emblazoned with the message: "I love NY."
When the image wound up on the front page of the New York Times, Boyd told his parents he might lose his job if President Obama saw him out of uniform.
"I can assure you that Specialist Boyd's job is very safe indeed," Gates said in the speech.
The U.S. defense chief was scheduled to deliver the speech at New York's annual Salute to Freedom dinner in Manhattan.

I don't really know one way or other if this is true or not...but quoting fox news as a source is generally...lol

Seems kind of silly one way or other. I mean, you were messing around about giving him a medal yea? Its kind of funny if true, but more than that? Pretty sure anyone would run out and start shooting if they were getting shot at, feel like there are braver acts performed every day by our armed forces.

*rolls eyes*

Put the text of the report into Google and you'll see that it's a Reuters/AP story that was picked up by all the major news carriers including FOX.

you guys realize we have to work out some how.... we dont just run in boots all the damn time, we do wear sneakers for pt...

If Fox News was the source, there'd be something about the guy having to lie about waking up, because it's so obvious that Barack Obama's military cuts prevent him from having BDUs.

Wow, talk about risking it by becoming a sitting duck. That red shirt does nothing to hide him as a target o_O; props to him for being so ballsy.
