I think that may just be the distortion from whatever ability was just used... not sure though.

When I played the original EverQuest, I'd periodically see a GM appear within a dungeon. Ya... noobs would crowd around the GM, but their presence alone put pressure on retards to play fairly.

Dunno if it was mentioned or not, but the distortion is a natrual thingy that the GM's armor gives off. It's more of a glow, really.
