God and Amputees.

Actually most people first came in saying that everyone should look for themselves in order to make their own educated opinion about it. I know I posted that the Bible was written and edited by man so you can't take it verbatim.

So the one source of proof that could be cited in the favor of christians can't be taken literally, yet you still believe.

Then there were some people saying that Christians are ignorant for believing what we do. That might be their honest opinion but using words like ignorant can be hostile.

Being called stupid would be hostile, being called ignorant is not. Being ignorant means that you don't know because the information hasn't been presented. So all in all, ignorant is the wrong word to use, but it is the nicer word to use, because the information has been presented repeatedly. Anyone can use simple logic to see that god does not exist. It is beyond my comprehension why religious people throw logic out the window in favor of archaic superstition.

The quotes in those spoilers completely make christians out to look like mindless idiots, im sorry but that was a horrible fake setup with "chris" being the christian. I've been in a Christian all my life and i've never seen a christian repeat the same line over and over again with no type of arguement to back it up.

"Chris" says God answers all prayers and gets what he wants. Thats ridiculous and obviously created by people who do nothing but read WoW/4chan forums.

The stories in the Bible are meant to be guidelines for living correctly and faithfully to God. There are historic records in there as well but they have been edited in some way. There are historic records that show that events in the Bible happened that are not Christian writings. I believe in the big picture that God exists and that everyone should research it themselves. I don't believe the world was created in 7 days but yet I believe God created it. I believe in evolution and I believe God's hand caused it. There are many symbols used in the Bible especially in the New Testament because the Christians were be persecuted when it was being written.

Where is this information that proves God doesn't exist? Several people have mentioned it but I don't see any scientific evidence that proves that He doesn't exist. So we're both saying opposite things based on the fact that we both don't have concrete evidence that God does or doesn't exist. There have been records of events that are unexplainable that some call miracles and there have been records of unanswered prayers. Really we both have about as much evidence as the other does in my own opinion. Take from it what you will.

Yeah but another reason for private schools is to surpass the education system of public schools. I know that in my state the public school system sucks and most of the private schools around here are Christian schools.

That's one of the reasons my dad sent me to a Christian School from 7-12. ;)

If you don't believe in god..or any other higher power, good for you. But please don't start telling those who do believe that they are fools for believing in some higher power because you don't believe.

I have read through this thread and Tristam and Stine (sorry for anyone else who is a Christian/Catholic/Anything but I'm just pointing out these two) and I have yet to see them say "You are an idiot/whatever for being athiest and you're going to rot in Hell" So I don't think you should be calling them idiots for believing in God.

If you believe in whatever, here's a cookie, I don't want you preaching to me about how I should live my life

If you don't believe in anything, here's a cookie, I don't want keep hearing from your mouths that god is some idea someone while they were taking a shit.

So wouldn't it then be ignorant to assume that people haven't done their home work in regards to religion? A lot of us didn't do eeny meeny miny moe and randomly decide on one. I for one took classes on many religions in University before making up my mind. If you don't agree with religion, fine. You don't have to feel the need to insult those of us who do. You're an Athiest, good for you. Congratulations.

You typed this while I was typing or I would have just quoted it :p

I went to a Christian school from 5-12 for the same reason plus the vice principal at the public school lied to my mom and several other parents.

Thank you. As I have stated several times in this thread, everyone has a right to believe what they have discovered for themselves. I have reasons why I am Christian and several of them are very personal and I don't feel comfortable about writing them on this board. I respect other people's views and I refuse to be rude to them about them because they have done their own research to support as to why they do or do not believe in anything.

'Ignorant' has gone the way of 'gay'. Where 'ignorant' originally meant one thing, it now (modern, everyday use of the word) means something more hostile. And since this is the internet and expression/tone/etc. can't be easy conveyed, you really can't blame them for taking it that way. If you do then you're just being [insert synonym for ignorant here].

Everyone in the world is technically ignorant. No one knows EVERYTHING.

I am hardly anti-religion, but I love stuff like this. I often find myself debating religious inconsistencies with "devout" christians, and it always ends with: "It is all part of God's plan, and we can not understand the intricacies of his plan" heh.

Cool find, Trippy.

I met an interesting person when I attended college a few months ago, he was an older person in his mid twenties that studied every known religion and philosphy. We started to compare our ideologies and he pointed out the similarities between each religion and said knowing a piece of each is the key to life not necessarily associating with it. New religions/philosophies develop and ideas change we must always press on and adapt to these ideas

There were some deep metaphors made, but basically I feel some things are evaluated critically for convenience of the mind or the base values are taken and transfigured into something similar but different whether in paper thickness or by oceans of contrast.

It's interesting, as in interesting to see how people arrive at conclusions but there some things that cannot be explained or found in entirely in a single text as it would defeat the purpose of living.

this isn't a christian by the way, only a person struggling with religion but there are somethings that appear obvious by my small and narrow viewpoint of life .

This is how I sum up my belief in God, I'm Catholic btw.

>_>; i only said older because he was older than me...

I only think a person is old when they're in their sixties+

to me there isn't anything wrong with being old, hell I wish my youth was over sometimes

If logic, reason, and science dictate that there is no god, and yet you still deny all evidence, you are proven to be an idiot.

I'm sorry, but there is no other way around it. The proof is right in front of you.

God is an old way of thought from an old world. Get with the times.

There is no proof of a lack of god. In fact, numerous "miracles" with absolutely no explanation have happened. Some of us like to call those "acts of god". While it is not proof, it leaves doubt in the lack of god.

Ya know, science has a hell of a lot more proof than religion. As far as I'm concerned there is absolutly no proof for religion.

Science on the other hand has plenty. Just read the link in the OP for a healthy dose of proof.

Proof is a human designed way to disagree with each other. I've seen a lot of people put to death or incarcerated without any proof, just "heresay" and lack of DISPROOF.(Just so you know, in many cases, "innocent until proven guilty" is NOT true)

They directly impede on my life, and therefore I have a right to say something about it. They come to my door, praising the good word. They yell at my friends for being gay. They protest on my schools fucking doorstep for the funerals of 5 men and women killed in a terrible tragedy. They judge and judge and judge. They ask for money. They put "In God We Trust" on my money. They've been taking away our rights, one by one, for the past 8 years (I'm looking at you G.W.B). They're hypocrites. They dismiss all rational thought.

I could go on, but Christians piss me off. Get a life and accept that the only place you're going after you die is a grave.

First off, I'd like to say I am sorry you have been "mistreated" by Christians. I use quotes because I am unsure as to the extent and don't know details.
Now on to the point. How do you feel about democratic supporters who rallied at a US Army vet's funeral, screaming how we are murdering women/children and these people die for nothing? I guess all democrats are solider-haters.

and before I continue, this gem
You know, in real life, we're shown that one bad apple ruins the bunch. Don't see how much different this is.

Sure, we're all adults, but normal adults stop believing in imaginary friends at a young age.

One bad apple right?
9 Muslims blew up the WTC. Not counting thousands of other bombings/massacres.
Quick, lets nuke Mecca and the middle east. Obviously, all muslims are evil terrorists.

Approximately 3 in 4 African Americans end up in some stage of corrections in their life. Guess we should just lock them all up and gas them right?

Illegal immigrants account for over 50% of the criminal activities in Texas, California, and Florida. The majority are Mexican and Cuban.
Guess we should line 'em up and shoot them?

Most serial killers are Caucasian. Quick, kill the whites!

If a bad apple ruins the bunch, by your method we should just burn the entire orchard.

I understand that your choices in life may conflict with other people's choices in life.

I ask you this. You hate Christians because they disapprove of your homosexual friends(and other reasons).
How do you feel about muslims who would decapitate those friends for being homosexual?

Not all Christians are evil hate mongering Borg.

and lastly.

They also shoehorned "under God" into the Pledge of Allegience so generations of schoolchildren would know they're not godless communists. Gotta get 'em while their minds are made of rubber, after all.

Welcome to a nation founded and raised on Christian beliefs. Maybe not "modern" beliefs, but still Christian basis.
If you don't like how things are, you're free to leave at any time.

In conclusion, people vary based on how they were raised and taught to behave within their religions. Some athiests are good friends with religious people and some find them "ignorant" or "silly". Some religious folk are the same, finding them as "godless heathens" or such.
Stop generalizing because it could be done to you too.
Just remember homosexuality has the highest rate of STD transference.
AIDS also originated from one gay man.
Does this mean we should ban gays too?

I didn't think so. Every group has it's "radicals" and they are all horrible. I personally don't care what color, religion, or sexual preference someone is. Everyone is a human first, the rest is clothing. That's what my Christian beliefs taught me. Live and love. Never hate anyone because they are different or think different. Just respect their opinions and do your best not to step on their beliefs without compromising your own.

So seriously. Live and let live guys. Come on.

(As a PS, I'm sorry if anyone was offended by any of the above. I'm simply passionate about not just my religion, but the belief that no one should hate someone simply because they believe or don't believe in something)

I call bullshit. The United States is NOT a christian nation. It says so in the Treaty of Tripoli which was ratified by the Senate in 1797. There is also no mention of god in the United States Constitution.

Thomas Jefferson also wrote this:

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."

The only thing that makes me not an atheist is this question. What happened before it all existed? What started everything in motion? Big bang theory? What was before that? Expanding/Collapsing theory? What happened BEFORE that?

There's two options at that point for me. God and cyclical time. Both improbable, both possible. That's why I'm not an atheist, I can't rule out either.

Sorry, no. This is not a Christian nation. This is a nation with a lot of Christians. There's a difference.

This isn't a christian nation. Our founding fathers were for the most part protestant, yes, but they kept religion out of the constitution for a very obvious and good reason which is further supported in the bible itself.
