Most people don't like religion because of the radicals, people who try to force their own idea of religion on people and tell you that you are a horrible person if you don't follow their ideas.
This is true, but it is also more complicated by the fact that te christian religion actually instructs christians to push thier religion on everyone else that doesn't believe.
When Jesus came near, he spoke to them. He said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. And remember that I am always with you until the end of time." (Matt. 28:18-20)
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears. 11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. (Ezek. 3:10, 11)
That is the King James version, which is what I studied and I still have a copy. My uncle got it for me when I was like 12, it's a real nice leather bound deal. He's a preacher, he means well. Had my name imbosed on it and every thing.
From Matthew, that is jesus speaking. Then the other one is of course Ezekiel speaking as it is from the old testament which is the jewish bible with 5 books edit out. Ezekiel is a priest who is among those taken into exile in 597 BC, a decade before the Babylonians destroy Jerusalem. His prophecies are given from Babylonia. The first part of the book contains oracles and actions of Ezekiel from his call in 593 BC until the fall of Jerusalem in 587. Ezekiel begins to prophesy after a vision in which he saw God's throne chariot and was given a scroll to eat (Ezek 1-3). He has visions of idolatrous worship in the Temple and of God's glory departing from Jerusalem (Ezek 8-11). He calls people to turn from sin. When his wife dies he bears it silently, as the people will have to bear the loss of Jerusalem.
So yeah, I kinda got off track there, but yeah. That's what you are supposed to do as a christian.
Chances are, if you are unhappy with the way your government works, unless you are willing to actually try to change it, you will have to learn to live with it.
I'm workin on that.
Canada is a lot more liberal in this. Our government run liquor stores aren't open on Sundays because (as said in another post) the government has to take 1 day a week off.
Indeed, but Canada still has blue laws. Until 2006, in Ontario it was illegal to hunt using a firearm on Sundays as part of the Lord's Day Act. The issue of whether or not to allow Sunday gun hunting has now been left up to each municipality to decide, many of them now allowing Sunday gun hunting. So really the only difference is your government has the sense to reapeal them.
I attended the wedding last year of my two good friends, James and Steve. No one looked at them as anything different then 2 people who love eachother getting married. I'm sorry that in some countries they feel the need to opress certain things that you may feel are a right not a privilege, but that is your government, not God.
That's really the main problem I have, but it's not just the government, it's the people that push the government to make stupid laws based on religious doctrine.
If your government puts laws into place and uses God as a scapegoat for it, then I don't know what to tell you. Canada is a really nice place to live
I'm right there with ya on that one. But Canada has it's flaws as well. I don't feel like getting into it right now, and I do realize the pros heavily out weigh the cons.
