You're right. I would have spent those 48 hours making enough gil to buy the item in question multiple times over instead of sitting around twitching and waiting for a mob with a long name to pop instead of one with a short name so I might claim it and it might drop. All of the reward with none of the frustration!
 
Well considering it spawned right on top of him, I wouldnt really consider it beating me to the punch, he was pretty much handed it on a silver platter.
 
I camp NMs for drops because I don't have the paitence to farm and farm and farm for gil for one thing I suppose you could say I like to gamble, I make all my money form BCs and NMs, as a result I am a very slow leveler and player, but I don't mind it. Some other players do this lifestyle, so I sympathize with them when stuff like this happens but it's happened to me so many times i've just ignored it.

Still i think if you camped something lets say for a rare/ex item and some random person came up and claims it after you've gone to the trouble of hunting it for hours and maybe getting ToD if it's 21-24 hour, you'd be pretty pissed as well .
 
Your complaint is moot.
If it's name is yellow, you don't own it.
You had an equal chance of it popping near you.

Lesson: With NMs, everyone around is CC.
You should've learned that long ago.
 
I went pretty easy on you with my first post, but that was my cowardice coming into play. There are lot of people who feel bitter towards the Japanese player-base, and I didn't want to turn this thread into "z0mg stp k1ss1ng JP azz l0lz" derailment. Still, I feel I've got to emphasize two things:



1) There was literally no reason for you to use the word "Japanese" in your subject title ... certainly not "Goddamned Japanese." It means exactly as much to what happened in your story as would the fact that their character was from Bastok, or Windurst ... meaning, it's a completely irrelevant, arbitrary detail to focus on.

2) 99% of people in the same situation would have claimed it, too. My sympathies really are with you, as I've been in the same shoes ... but I would have done it, myself. In FFXI, due to the way rare spawns work, an unclaimed NM is free for anyone and everyone. How much labor you put into getting it to spawn doesn't count for much, in the end. I'm sure you would have done the same thing, no matter what you tell yourself.

Honestly, as much as you say I wouldnt I would give it to him. I was raised with 3 brothers, I kno what it's like to share, and I kno what its like when someone has been waiting for a very long time (We used to have a computer rule, you only got an hour at a time, and someone would sit there a half an hour before the other would end so they could get on next. I never tried to but in get on before they did)

I realize that several people camp NM's at the same time, but when you've all been sitting there for 2-3 hours, its fair game. But when your running past an NM, and you see 5 /anon people fleeing right towards it. I would honestly leave it alone.

Especially since I was helping the JP. If ANYONE, helped me out by saying there were bee's there, I would have gone for the bee's and nothing else. If there was nobody there, then yes I would have gone for the NM. But when someone is trying to help you, and you go and take away something you have been working at for a long time. I'm sorry your just a prick then.
 
Seasoned NM campers like myself, take this as a loss/lesson and move on.

Try watching an AFK BLM cast Stun on Argus. When I saw him pop right infront of me. I targetted the yellow Argus and hit my Stun macro. Cannot attack. Target claimed. I can't tell you how mad I was.

Did I make a thread? Or complain at all?


No. Dracoden and I both learned from that situation. Ended up getting 2 amulets later that week.
 
Fuck Japan. Can't believe those asses allowed this guy to steal your notorious monster that was completely and utterly yours! I'm never eating teriyaki beef ever again in protest.
 
How do you kno he was afk? Thats just assuming he was. When ur the only one around, (or think you are) you dont tend to be on the edge of your seat trying to claim it.
 
Also on a note, I'm not saying all JP players are assholes, the point of the title was to get your attention. If I said a name it would have instantly be put into the NW, and I think the title most certainly got your attention

So you assume the afk blm was the only one camping?

It's safe to assume when the person doesn't respond or move at all. Infact you can call a GM and they will send the person /tells to make sure they're not afk/cheating.
 
I always run around and check to see if anyone else is camping. Double check, I was only one at the torrent for 1.5-2hrs

Why do you assume I let my game off if no one is around?

Hell, I used to practice close quarter claiming at the Spook. Alone, most of the time.

Even at Sozu Rogberry/Sozu Sarberry while having no competition, Scwall and I would always argue over who claimed it first.

Valkurm Emperor was my favorite for wide scan...some people don't know the trick of the order of monsters in that list. Some people would and were very fast/lucky, beating me to it.

It's happened to me and it's happened to everyone on wide ranged spawn NM's. Especially when the PH has multiple spawn points, it's pretty random if you're gonna get claim.....

Well, I kno that I do, when I'm the only one camping, I dont tend to check widescan ASAP especially when its such a small spawn zone. But back to the original point of this thread, its ridicoulus how some people can be such assholes when ur trying to help them.

I used to love the guys who would "help" kill the Damselfly's for me. Get mad at me for doing nothing and they deserve Empy? HAH.

I happened to claim him once while delivering Scwall 500k that I owed him. He was lvling his SAM or something, lv18 and I was on my DRK.

Get to the camp, get off my bird, and trade him the 500k. Started running for the outpost when *poof* Empy spawns infront of me and drops the hairpin (back in the day).

Nothing more flattering than getting angry /tells from /rng's who show up as the greyed out name Valkurm Emperor fades away.
 
I don't understand why some people seem to think that they deserve an NM. Nothing irritates me more than when I arrive somewhere and claim shortly after arriving to hear the boo-hoo story about how they've been there for 4 hours. What the hell? Do you think I made my way to the camp just to let you have it cause you were there first? Of course not, I came there for a damn reason.

Then there's the people who get mad at you just because you have better gear than they do. "I need it more than you!". Er yeah, camping and claiming nms is a good way to get good gear, haha. This one guy got so pissed at me when I outclaimed him on VE (by a mile) and I was wearing an emperor hairpin at the time. But you know what? I got empress hairpin and got my 3mil gil back for the one I had. So stfu and either keep camping or farm the gil to buy one like I originally did.
