Golf?

I've benched my driver for now too. My reasoning, though, is that I've been playing a few par 3 courses exclusively to try and hone my wedge game.

I love par 3 courses. I use to live near a par three course and at night they'd fire up the lights and allow you to play night golf. That was some of the best times I've ever had playin'. Get you a ball that glows/lights up/blinks and it adds to it.

For some reason I can go the same distance with my 3 that I can my driver (no joke and I have a mean drive range). However, the end result is more pleasing with my 3 as it, 9/10, goes exactly where I want it to. I don't know why but for the last month or so I have lost 100% control of my driver, which I use to just own. So until I get it worked out at the range, it'll stay in my car with my shoe bag.

Golf? This is a sports forum Alex.

(jk, I love golf shhh)

-.-

Strid: lol, it's funny you say that, I recently picked up a 20degree hybrid, and I kill it off the tee, 235ish with a nice light draw, and never get in trouble with it.. but I still hit driver on 80% of the 4s/5s.. It's not exactly smart, but I kill the ball off the tee usually, average 280-290, but I keep it in play most of the time, so it's not too big a deal.

I also try not to play stupid shots out of the woods, but if I'm in competitive play I'll do just about anything to win lol. Couple weeks ago I almost played a shot that could have broken my wrist lol, but ended up just playing a lateral punchout and eventually saved par on the hole (it was a 5, thankfully).

btw Tim... how did the club get broken if the cart went out of control? <_< did you stick the club out to try and stop it or something? lol.. or was the club just sitting on the ground for some reason? lol.

Yeah, I don't play competitively. I guess I'm lucky there. I have a lot of friends and family who love golf and are great at it. However, none of them will play competitively. They just think it takes all of the fun out of it as do I. I wouldn't be able to handle competitive play to be honest. After about hole 10-11 I'm usually pretty tanked. I shoot well when I'm tanked but I also hate playin' anything (other than foosball, Xbox, or WoW) competitively in the condition.

I have sexy graphite shafts so that's a main concern for shots with a bad lie. If I had iron shafts or some shit it'd be a different story. However, I'll never own any clubs that has a shaft other than graphite.

Honestly, it's a lot of fun playing competitively as long as you don't get too hot-headed about it. However sometimes I will say to my friends "no thanks, I don't want to bet today(usually not a lot of $ anyways), I'd rather just have fun." It depends on how I'm feeling on a given day. I can understand the other side of the argument though.

We always keep score and talk shit hole-to-hole but we don't take it competitively I guess is the best way to put it. I really meant tournament play, etc. I don't bet either. Though, I probably would if I was one of the top guns of the bunch I play with.

As long as you play with handicap, it doesn't matter how good you are. ;D

We all play on even ground. We're all about equal skill wise I just usually end up loosin' by a stroke or two every time D: I usually totally blow one hole a round though where they don't.

Ahh, gotcha, then I understand where you're coming from ;D

I was still holding it, and once I started fishtailing down the hill it shot out the side of the cart and under the wheel. Very disappointing.

Golf is a great game if you have the time and money to put into it. From ages 10-16 I played golf probably everyday that the weather and my parents would allow it. The best I ever got was around a 5 handicap and played in a quite a few junior tournaments across the state as well as competitive high school matches. I was never a top tier golfer but I could hold my own with most people. I enjoyed the hell out of the competition both against others and as a challenge to myself.

Once I hit around age 17-18 I lost the desire to play as much due to burnout and the ability to drive myself anywhere. I also started picking up a steady summer job that made me enough money to where I could really enjoy myself as a late teenager. My desire for the game fell off and has never returned to where it once was. I sometimes wish I could get it back because there is nothing more relaxing than playing a round of golf.(Most of the time at least) :)

I was in Dick's Sporting Goods a couple of weeks ago with the wife and spent most of my time tooling around the golf equipment. I was amazed at how far the game has come regarding advances in equipment within the last 10 years. The prices are quite a bit higher too. Driver sizes are insane now, after I got home I pulled out my old Taylor-Made driver and it looked puny compared to what was at the store. But it gave me the itch to tee it up sometime soon.

I hope that at some point in my life I am able to play the game again on a regular basis. And just maybe I'll find that enjoyment that I once had with the game.

I forgot to add that I would whip Shyrra all over the course even though I haven't played a round in years. :sm:

Eh... Golf is infuriating. I've mellowed out a ton, but when I was playing alot I'd go from shotting low 70s to high 80s all depending on how I felt. Being pissed and trying to drive a ball straight is not a good thing...

Did you just call me a ginger? <_< Wtf lol.

anyways, just got in from playing 18... it was fucking hot out there lol.

Didn't quite have all my game today, made some really bad shots today :/ Shot +9 with 3 double bogeys. Almost holed out for eagle on a long par 5 though.

You're letting your elbow fly and it's causing you to overcompensate on the downswing thus giving you that nasty pull hook that is causing all of those out of bounds balls you are hitting.

There I just fixed your golf game. Where is the love?:drinks:

A. I haven't hit a ball OB in about 6 weeks.
B. I actually WAS overhooking my irons(only) but it wasn't because of your diagnosis (it's funny though, my brother actually has that problem often.), but actually because I somehow ended up swinging with a very inside swing plane, instead of coming back away from the target, and swinging through to the target, I was coming back inside and swinging through to the left of the target, causing a pretty severe hook that got me into trouble a few times with my irons.
C. My tee game is flawless, always. ;)
