Good first game to pick up?

I'm thinking about getting a PS3 and am not sure what game to get when I first buy it so I have something to play when I get home. I have already decided to get the 60GB model but not really sure which game I should get with it. So I ask the PS3 owners here what they think would be a good game to get with it when I go to buy it. Thanks for the input.
 
Depends, what genre you want?
 
Genre, co-op important, online multiplayer important, etc?
 
For FPS, i recommend Vagas and Fall of Man.

Also Heavenly Sword is coming out soon. Like Elemmire said, deprends on what you play.

Heavenly sword is already out, isn't it? There was a thread about it with personal reviews, so I assumed it was out.

Yea its out.

Comic-book nerdwise I've played Marvel Alliance more than any other game (not into FPS). If you like RPG, the best (only because its the only RPG) is Everlasting Arms. As mentioned in other threads its very graphically amazing with an HDTV (if you have). I think its even down to 20 bucks at best buy, so its not a wallet killer if you don't like it
 
Shooters - Fall of Man(run and gun), Rainbow six vegas(tactical)
RPGs - Enchanted Arms(traditional JRPG), Oblivian (huge RPG, 100s of hours of stuff to do, like being in a MMORPG offline)
Online battlefiend type game - Warhawk (probably my personal favorite)
slashers - Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Heavenly Sword)

good sports games - NHL 08, MLB 07: the show

And Marick I haven't seen you in fuckin' forever, my PSN is Firestreak when you get hooked up.

If you're going to get just 1 game and 1 game only for now, I'll say Resistance: Fall of Man is the one to get. It's got a great offline that you can do co-op splitscreen, a nice offline deathmatch and a huge online community with dedicated servers and 40 people on at once without any lag - and devs who actually police their game and ban cheaters.
 
Thanks for the input, I was thinking of either getting Resistance or Ninja Gaiden. Has anyone heard anything about Monster Kingdom? I've heard some small hype about it but other than that not much else.

Yeah I've been pretty busy Fire, just got to Florida and am working on getting adjusted here, I'll look you up once I get it.
 
There's a demo for it on the PSN right now (Monster Kingdom = Folklore), so you can try before you buy. I'm planning on getting it personally.

There were demos for Resistance and Ninja gaiden, not sure if they're still up.
 
Thanks for the heads up, didn't know that Folklore and Monster Kingdom were on and the same. Must be the Japanese -> English conversion. Let me know your feedback on it, it sounded interesting to me so I might grab it.
 
I started out with Heavenly Sword for 2 days....then I got Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I have not hade more than 5 hours sleep a night since
 
Skate is a really good game, especially if you like to skate board. much better then the usual tony hawk games, and quite realistic.
also, in like a week, fifa 08 is coming out, and thats supposed to be an awesome game, ill be picking that up first day...as im obsessed with fifa games heh...
as for shooters...fall of man is decent, vegas is pretty fun but real tactical.
also, fight night and tiger woods 08 are really fun.
madden is meh

Tiger woods is pretty badass. Nothing like importing your own picture and having your own personalized character out on the best golf courses in the world. Only problem is the downtime, takes forever to load from hole to hole.

I didn't like it that much. Rainbow 6 Vegas was so much better.
 
motor storm is pretty sweet , reminds me of san fransico rush in a way with how crazy the races get
 
I agree with Mara on the GRAW2 thing. I would still be playing the first one if more people were still playing that one online.

Resistance would probably be the best start for a new PS3 owner. It's where the rest of us started lol From there, I would give R6:Vegas, Warhawk, or Heavenly Sword a shot. Enchanted Arms was a pretty decent RPG and it is only $20 now and definitely worth the money.

And Fire, I played the Folklore demo also, and I must say that game is looking pretty amazing. Hopefully Sony doesn't screw up anything with it because it looks to be a lot of fun. The shaking of the controller to pull in the monsters seems a bit too much, but I can get used to it.
 
Resistance -> Oblivion -> Warhawk -> hmm.. Lair is actually pretty fun. It's weird to get used to, but it's not that bad. Haven't played Heavenly Sword. Also, wtf? Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 is fun :D
 
Thanks for all the feedback, will still be about a week or two before I'll have the money but so far all the suggestions sound really good. I would get Oblivion if I didn't already have it on 360. I've looked at GRAW2 and have thought about getting it, I also have R6:Vegas on 360 so I probably won't get it on PS3. The way its looking is I'll probably go with Resistance first and then go from there.
