I've been playing texas hold'em on and off for the past 4+ years, spending most of that time on limit, only recently moving to no limit. Decided to pick up David Skalansky's most recent book on playing no limit, and as with all his books, it was a very good read. After playing lots of free money games online, I decided to test what I learned at a home game. For the first time ever, I took everyone's money (there was only 4 of us, but it still was an accomplishment). So then I went with my one friend down to Atlantic City, try my hand at 1/2 no limit. More then tripled my money (up $467), though I spent it on things I needed to take care of.

After that, I decided I was going to try to go pro, but I needed a bankroll. I tried asking my friends to borrow the money (I wanted a $1000 bankroll to cover $200 buy-ins), but couldn't find anyone willing to loan me the money. Then I decided to try and save the money, cutting back as much as I could on spending, but everytime I've ever had money saved up, something happened, like car breaking down, needing my teeth pulled, etc.

So I decided this weekend, I would take the $200 I could afford out of my paycheck and try to build my bankroll off of winnings. Saturday night, I sat down with $200, and I left with ~$1070, lol. Then I went back down with a friend on Sunday, turned $200 into $501. Needless to say, I was pretty happy.

Going pro looks to be very possible now, we'll see how this Saturday goes, lol.

We don't know each other but pretend I'm someone you care a shit tonne about and who cares a lot about you.

Be Fucking Careful as SHIT.

Please be careful.

Although you're not gambling against a stacked house, you still are gambling. Someone always turns a profit from other peoples losses, ALWAYS.. ALWAYS.

Be careful. Just please be careful.

I appreciate you're concern. I am building a bank roll of 1000 to risk a MAX of 200 each time I go down. I have read 4-5 books on the subject. This is the only gambling I do, because of the number of decisions involved (adding a lot of strategy to the game). I don't touch the lottery, slots, roulette (sp?), etc. I am not playing the house. In fact, there is a rake (usually 10% of the pot, max $4), so the casino wins whether I lose it all or walk away with 3 grand (it means they don't care if I win or lose). I try to only play people worse then me, if the table is too tough, I sometimes leave with most of my $200 still intact, or even up a small margin. I am a very cautious person, and if I lose this bankroll, I will obviously be done with poker.
