I didn't really know what else to title this thread.
No, I haven't completed my relic horn and no I havent gotten any shiney new Item. I just am really happy with something to happened to me today and thought i'd share the story with you guys because I learned a very valuable lesson.
Ever since I came to quetz, I had nothing but good intentions, I consider myself a very talented, generous player. I don't think i'm better than anyone or too good for anyone. I am still the same noob who exped at lvl 20war/whm in qufin, back in 2003. I'm still the same person I was. However I am a different player.
When I came here, I came here to play with my good friend sano, who I admire and care for so much, he has taught me so many things and it has been a great blessing and honor to know him. A true friend and loyal.
I met up with some rather interesting people who weren't too liked here, but nonetheless I accepted my friends. As a player and a human being I myself make mistakes but I do not regret those I was once associated with. At the time I thought they were my friends and I accepted them and because of this I was Crucified by some of you endgamers for being involved with these people.
At the time, what I wanted to believe wasn't true, and I realized this only afterwards. However, as players, we have a responsibility to control our selfs and promote kindness and respect to all players, not just those in endgame.
After some altercations I started to have such a huge grudge against certain people, and I became blinded by the hatred for these people. In my eyes I was treated terribly by something I could not control, and Its my choice to decide who I will play with yet I am not responsible for their actions and I was treated very unfairly, lied about and treated absolutely ghastly by some people.
I believe this might have been an attempt to push me out of endgame. You know who you are and you know what you have done. However, I am not innocent no am I angry towards you anymore. Hell, i'm bi polar and can be a annoying, royal bitch. But thats not who I am and thats not the type of player I would like to be seen as.
My frustrations only grew as people who didn't have anything I didn't have were treated so kindly and loved by so many. Yet, me, I was treated so badly by these people. It truly grew on me and I became bitter and even since Ive been consumed with great dislike for some of them. I believe a close friend called this "Animosity". I notice how some of them sort of like "pick on" some people and I take the opportunity to stand up for them but really that was just an excuse to show my true dislike for them.
Seeing the same people bully others really got to me but in the end I wasn't sure if i was really doing it to stand up for someone or if it was just because I was so bitter towards them myself. I'm a good enough person and player to admit that.
This past week something weird happened. I won't say too much or get into deep details but some of them apologized to me and I learned a lot of them and myself as a player. I realized how peoples perception of others can lead them to think and do things towards others that they don't realize can be painful and very unpleasant. No one really knows how being mean and cruel to others can effect someone. I learned how much alike I am to them and looking back i realized how immature we acted and I even made some new friends.
I can say for sure now I learned so much from others players on quetzacoatl this week. People who I once could not stand and would take every opportunity i could to call out, I now hold no ill will towards.
In the end, its a video game. However, too many forget we all human and all make mistakes even in this online community and it's up to us to ensure FFXI is a fun, safe, enjoyable experience for all as cliche as it may sound.
I wanted to share this with the board because I don't think I am the only one who has these issues with people and even though its now after the fact we all have come to terms. Its good to know FFXI can be that much more an enjoyable experience because we all have come around for the better of our community.
It's funny because you would think "It's just a game right" right? Yet, I personally have matured a lot as a person and player since I started playing and I'm still growing and not ashamed to admit it!
I have some of the rarest, most wanted gear in FFXI and I have done literally everything there is to do in endgame and otherwise. Yet, i hold true that I am not better than anyone. I am just as equal and do my best to be just as kind a player as I was when I was leveling what my friend called "a ghetto paladin" LOL! (WAR/WHM LOLLL)
I encourage everyone, endgame or not the give back to the community and offer something to the community for all the many blessings you have gotten. Gear wise or not. The people you meet and the friends you play with is itself a great reward not to mention all the very nice material things you have obtained over the years for all your hard work and camping. Its really nice to say you have matured throughout your experiences in FFXI.
After you read this, I challenge you to go do something nice for someone. It can be anything big or small. Might sound cheesy but try it. A small thing can mean a lot to someone else. I gave away my first teir 0 synth (lolmahagntma cuffs) to someone who could actually use them and make good use of it, just before I wrote this and yes im poor ATM! LOL!
Thank you to my LS, past and present, my group of friends and everyone else who has helped me become a more mature skilled player.
Hopefully will be back soon with me 15/15 marduk thread (thx pchan and KFC) and maybe someday ill finish that horn!
Have fun guys!
BTW, buy my gaiters ya'll ;p
