Got My Soul Calibur IV

So, has anyone fought a ranked match in this where the other player didn't spam/quit before they lost/a combination of both? I fought against a spamming Taki, so i just spammed a better move with Raphael to prove a point, and they quit. Same thing like my last 5 matches. I'm still 0/0 :(

There's no penalty for quitting? Lame :|

And no bonus for fighting against someone that quit. I was fighting a guy and had already won 2/3 rounds. He was almost dead when i lost connection to him.

Why not just do it with someone here if you want the achievements, or do you want to "earn" them?

they lose XP for quitting, tho i dont know how much, i accidentally quit one time cause i tapped start by accident and A right after, said i got a penalty for quitting.
i get tired of people spamming the same damn move when you cant get away from it, you cant do anything unless you do an impact break which are not that easy when your being spammed, and if you block you set yourself up for a critical finish, 9/10 games today ended that way.
tho if they quit ive been awarded the win each time.

That's why my favorite fighting series is Virtua Fighter. The game is like the anti-cheap.

No. All fighting games can be done the cheap way. And on a higher level in tournaments people fight the same damn way... Cheap...

isnt there normally a way around said cheap moves? on the previous versions I always resorted to xianhua's various feints to avoid the spam hit and knock back/stun anyone foolish enough to try said cheap moves. It's harder to pull this off vs long distance people but if you can keep most people just outside your weapon range any attempt to come in closer can be countered.

I've been playing this on X360 and PS3, been kinda busy so i never got to play it as much as everyone else but I've had some fair play time to say the least. I'll be playing on my PS3 tonight.

Being that i do play both versions of the game, I'm convinced the X360 is a little over 4X faster at loading.

If the character creation wasn't so awesome, I would have been terribly disappointed with SCIV. Thankfully the changes to my favorite characters haven't been altered much, I've yet to play this online either.

Feel free to add my PSN if your interested in trying me.

There are ways around. Cervantas would be my choice versus one of the cheap hit people. Lot of painfull counters.

I finally got to play this. Most of the characters have the same exact moves >.> not sure if thats a good thing or bad, but i was able to pick nightmare up right away and start kicking ass :D

I played the PS3 vers. I heard Yoda is broken in that hes automatically immune to throws and all upper hits?

The thing is he is shorter than everyone else, so if the person you chose doesn't do an attack that swings downwards, it's kinda of hard to hit him with combos. He also Jumps alot when he attacks making it harder to get off combos. If you are in a stage with no ring outs with Yoda, make sure you choose someone with a polearm type weapon (Kilik) as he can get a bit frustrating XD.

That is the same for nearly every fighter in existence.

Yoda's completely immune to throw and all regular horizontal attacks. Low horizontal attacks and any vertical attacks will hit him. He's a completely broken character, but still not as bad as the apprentice.

Apprentice was probably the hardest arcade fight I ever had in SC >_> But maybe I was just rusty, he just kept kicking my ass for a bit

Yeah, the Apprentice was definately harder than everyone else in the Arcade mode. Took me some time to beat him. Anyways, the character I'm having the best luck with is Amy.

Hilde + B+G Throw at ring edge = Apprentice fucked

I played SCIV with Seph today on his PS3, oh my god it was fantastic!

As for the Yoda discussion, rule is never introduce an extremely short character into a weapons based fighting game like Soul Calibur IV.

Yoda is fast, strong, and short, which makes him one thing, CHEAP!

Vader has better balance as he is tall so he fights as a more well rounded character in comparison to Yoda.

Anyways, we haven't managed to play as the apprentice yet, we were having too much fun in the character creation section making sexy fighters with skimpy clothing and big... assets.

yeah he was really vulnerable to throwing moves. Thats how I finally beat him. However was my first time in arcade and I was on nightmare so couldn't do much. I can imagine Vader's throw works well too

Would you guys recommend this game to someone isn't a huge fighting game fan?
