Got My Soul Calibur IV

Not so sure I'm picking this up, but I wouldn't get the 360 version unless I had an arcade stick to be honest. Load times, install times and graphic comparisons aside, the 360 controller isn't really built with the D pad as a high priority.

Not even commenting on the quality, the biggest issue is the 360's D-pad location. D pads require stretching your thumb further cause they're not raises off the pad as high as sticks are, when you put them further away from your hand, it makes them uncomfortable. The 360 made the stick the high priority - making that extremely comfortable by putting that on the left assuming most games would use that to move, which is true... but it makes fighters unplayable to me on the 360.

Just my thoughts. If you're considering which version to buy, put your left thumb on your 360's control pad, try pushing that for a few minutes and ask yourself if that's comfortable.

For all I know the 360 version just goes ahead and uses the left stick to move instead... which makes quick, short sidescrolling movements more sluggish.

Of course you can always just get a Hori stick, which is something people online say a lot - I just don't actually know anyone who likes fighters enough to buy arcade sticks for them.

Who the fuck plays Soul Calibur with a D-pad?? If this is Street Fighter or even Tekken i understand you... We are talking a smooth 360 degree movement fighting game... Soulcalibur and DoA style fighters encourage sticks only.

EDIT: To take it even further the PS3's D-pad blows also... Its stiff as crap and is no dual shock 2... There is no win there.

I don't know, I don't have much Soul Calibur experience, only played SC 3 for like half an hour on the PS2. It's a 3D fighter so I assumed it was like Tekken and Virtua Fighter, which despite being 3D, you mostly use 2 dimensions anyway. It was how I played it anyways.

and not talkin about build quality, but positioning. Not sure what's with your D pad tho, maybe you have a bad controller. I have 5 and 1 of them is stiff but other 4 are good.

Then i understand you... If you take some time to play even the dreamcast version of the game was against dpad movement, but it could be done somewhat well.

They introduced an 8way run in SC2 i believe and since then dpad is completley an after thought. A double tap in any direction will take you there with a burst of speed.

Once you are in that burst motion in whatever direction chosen, wave the stick you will move very fluid like. Basically down wouldnt be duck anymore, it would move you towards the screen and up would move you away from the screen... The dpad can move in 8way run but you look like a robot... Also there are many many combinations of attacks that just favor the sticks so well... If you play me ill show you lol.. I would say a large percentage of the great Soulcalibur players use analog sticks.

The 8way run is in no way the same as just hitting down twice and side stepping in a game like Tekken.

I just pre-ordered the special edition for the 360, but I'll have to wait a week to play it since I'm only picking it up from gamestop, not working there.

My MS AND Sony rep were in today and said that the extra character slot was for a special character that you get after you get the save file for beating Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Also confirmed by several other Store Directors.

Cool, but kinda whack. I bet its the tonfa chick, although she'd be like talim. I guess we'll have to wait and see either when SWFU comes out or if someone rips the game and can find out in the files.

And fuck make, get the game in already im jonesin for some SC4 and all the stores round here are to goody to release it early.

They did just come out with another Arcade stick for the 360 recently. I forget who made it, but I was playing with it at work the other day. It feels pretty spot on to how I play.

I haven't seen my reps in forever. Both of them refuse to come because one witnessed a shooting outside in the parking lot, and the other got in a car accident in the parking lot, so they don't come. They just mail the shit they are supposed to install lol

When it comes to Soul Calibur commands, the D pad is the way to go in my opinion. It has all 8 directions, and i find it easier to pinpoint as opposed to using analog stick. I'd say D pad is also faster at any given speed.

I can not tell you how to play. I know the analog is a better option for movement and combinations in Soulcalibur. The dpad just can not take advantage of the 8 way run system properly. Sure you can still enjoy the game with the dpad... I just get toodamn competetive and at that stage its analog or gimme my perfect...
