Lately I've been experiencing graphical tears at increasing intervals. First they started out only in ffxi, with long stretched out textures or flickering lighting. Lately they've been appearing in windows as horizontal lines, in random places and sizes, usually only three pixels thick. Also, random pixels will flicker depending on animations and mouse movements in spots. During start up there are red and blue dots all over the post messages, text in the bios menus has some letters of a different color now.

So far I have tried reinstalling video drivers, flashing bios, it's obviously not the OS since it's happening before the OS even loads. I looked around and some said to check temps, everything is really low, only like 30-35C at load, so that's not it. I'm thinking that my vid card is slowly getting shot, but I figured I'd check here to see if anyone has some tips or tricks or ideas.

My config is: Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, AMD X2 5200+, nVidia 7900 GT and the OS is Vista Home Premium 64.

Examples of what happens in game:

Yeah, uh, that happens in all games? even in the bios?

Time to get a new video card

I've had somewhat similar issues before, you might physically check that you card is tightly in place and not starting to come out of the socket.

Stop dividing be zero, and your char should stop sucking everything around it into its face.

But in all seriousness:

  1. GP's idea
  2. Test it out with another graphics card (if you have one)
  3. Tagrineth's idea

usually rolling back drivers fixes something like that. but like you said, its before windows loads. dust/hair could cause that. but not likely. vid card is probably gonna go soon.
