Chii's PC seems to of died overnight. Was perfectly fine last night but when I went to boot it up this morning all I get is lines of the colour that should be there (the green and white acer boot up screen is now just lines of green and white), I then get random lines and dots of red and white and that's it. Now before I go into town and buy a graphics card is it definitely this or could it be something else?

It's either that or the monitor. Did you test it with another one?

edit: Also, swap your graphics card (I'm going to assume you have your own PC as well) to see if it is the graphics card and not something on the motherboard

Considering it's an Acer, my dibs on an integrated video card. But yeah in a nutshell, that's the first steps to the troubleshoot. Try an another monitor first, boot up see if it's doing the same thing. If it's not resolving the trouble try an another video card. You will need to know if your PC is using the old AGP slot or the newer PCI-express slot or in the worst case scenario, since Acer is usually in the very low end spectrum of PC, you'll need to resort to use an old PCI card (yeah you could be screwed at that point lol). I found you that chart to help you identify your slots since it can be a little bit overwhelming when you don't know what you're doing

The only one you don't need to pay attention in this diagram is PCI-Express X1 since it's ususally used for 56k modem, etc.

You could also install that video card into another computer, would rule out tons of possible problems. You would be on an OS you know has no problems, a fresh install of drivers and the only piece of hardware that came from the other computer.

If it still does it in another computer, I'd feel safe to say 100% its the card.

It will be tough if it's an integrated video card :p

lol Yeah that would be bit of a pain IF it is integrated.
