dont invite this kid or youll find yourself out of a party. i make the pt soon as server maintenence was done, we gather in jeuno, ride chocos to boyahda, check a camp.. already taken so we go to a new spot.. kill a few mobs then i tell the pt i have to go real quick to eat dinner at most afk for ~20 mins but id hurry. no complaints whatever from pt in fact a few went afk when i did, when i come back after only 10 mins i ask why i got dropped from pt and he says he got a replacement. first of all couldnt he just have the decency of asking the replacement to go back, i even offered to pay for choco ride. i think i deserve at least that after making the pt and everything and seriously who kicks somone after not saying anything when i told them i would brb, no one in the party had a problem with the afk, like i said a few of them went afk themselves. dont invite this impatient douchebag.

<death> Grasinthor <Yes, please.>

Well, you did form a party, led them there and started an XP party. That's good.
Now i'm not saying that it was totally justified to kick you, but c'mon. You said you'd go AFK for 20 Minutes in an XP Party ? What kind of Logic is that ? Going AFK in any case isn't great, not in any Party.
All in all, i'd say you weren't smart for going AFK right after joining/forming an XP party, but they could have waited, if the Reward was worth it. AFK is just really annoying. Really, Really Annoying.

first of all rng went afk for 10 mins before me while we all waited. second of all i did not have a choice to go afk at that time i had to go. and third, everyone was ok with it except him

and another thing.. 20 minutes a long time? you obviously havent been past level 40, you can go hours or days at a time without getting a pt

...which is why people don't like to sit around waiting for someone to be afk when they finally do get a party.

If you did warn them in advance and everyone was ok with it, yeah, they shouldn't have kicked you out as long as you weren't gone longer than you'd told them you would be. You should leave the PT though, IMO, if you're going to be gone for any length of time and the rest of PT is going to continue fighting things.

I really don't think you're gonna get a lot of sympathy here though.

Exactly, If you have to wait for "Days" for Partys, maybe you don't wanna wait on a "brb gotta eat 20 min" - "Why did you even Form a Party ?" or "brb - 10 minutes" - "Err ??? I'm pulling ?" (AFK = away from Keyboard, BRB = be right back, as in your character will be somewhere else.)
But anywho, going AFK for 20 minutes in any party is not Wise. Next time someone goes AFK on you, measure the time and note your Reaction. You'd be surprised. I know I usually get surprised like that alot  , I undersetimate my own Human Nature alot.

Well heres the thing, no one in his party said anything so he was fine as long as he came back within 20 minutes. After 20 then it would have become and issue and a kick would have been okay.

Cut people some slack sometimes.

Anyway if I was in your party I would have probably said something if you got booted before 20 mins and probably left myself. If they are that impatient and rude then they probably wouldnt have been a good group in the long run.

Simple solution to all this:

If you know you'll be doing something, such as eating dinner, which takes an extended period of time (>5 minutes)... don't set yourself up to look for a party until AFTER you're done. It saves you AND any party you're in a lot of grief. As you said, you knew you were eating dinner, and you had no choice.

Now granted, I don't usually bring it up with people, but I can't stand it when some moron decides "Oh. I need to go to the store to get cigarettes" or something stupid like that before a party gets started. When you set your party flag up, that should mean there won't be any major distractions for a decent period of time.

I myself will say "BRB, gonna pee before we head out." sometimes so that it doesn't get in the way of EXPing, but eating dinner... that's really pushing things. I can't quite say I blame someone not patient enough to put up with that.

I agree with garvin on this one. Sorry but 20 minutes is a long time to expect someone to wait on you. I think people forget that they are REAL LIVE people controlling these characters. What do they do? While you're eating dinner, they are just sitting on their couch or at the computer just waiting on you. Of course this guy was frustrated! You yourself said that the Rng just got done being AFK for 10mins, now you're tacking on another 20? No body had any objections because they were too busy groaning.

ok first of all. can you guys read? i wasnt even gone for 20 mins i was gone for 10, second of all if you nubs have ever been to boyahda tree it takes longer than that for somone to come, when i got back they were saying the replacement was coming... so he wasnt even there yet, people offered to let me take their spot but i didnt want to make them suffer because of gras's stupidity

please.. read shit before u start posting, not just the post above yours

10 minutes + 20 minutes = half an hour of zero doing.

It doesn't matter if you did get back after 10 minutes. You *TOLD* them you were going away for about 20 minutes. And the RNG did leave on a AFK for 10 minutes before you, which means that if they didn't get someone else, they were to lose even more time idling away.

If you were gone 10 minutes first, and then the RNG was going away for another 10 minutes soon thereafter, then he might have been booted instead of you. Still, a 10 afk soon after getting in a PT is quite innappropriate. I do expect to be kicked out if I go on an extended afk. So I don't see why it's so surprising.

Yup, WE'RE the NOOBS, because WE'RE the ones who don't understand basic party ettiquette. Let's look at this another way. You come here, state something, EVERYONE ELSE disagrees with you, so you're argument is to call US noobs. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I dunno, maybe like a subless player in the dunes who doesn't take suggestions well?

Psychic prediction here...the RNG that had already been afk was Enos...

Not noobs... nubs! *snerk* That's gotta say somthing right here.

Yeah, if you said "I'll be afk for 20 mins" I'd reply "ok, you're in if I can't replace you in 20 minutes". 20 mins? Jesus. Even if you were only gone for 10, thats a long time to request afk in an xp party. I'd have booted you after 5 if I could find a replacement.
And yes, it IS hard to find a party after 40 in many cases, so?

first of all couldnt he just have the decency of asking the replacement to go back
Why should he? What does he owe you? You formed the party and abondoned it.

first of all rng went afk for 10 mins before me while we all waited. second of all i did not have a choice to go afk at that time i had to go.

He did? And you didn't kick him out? I'll award you a golden star if you wish. Big fucking deal. I'd have booted his ass. MOST players would. And you "didn't have a choice"? Why not? Are you on some sort of diet that if you DO NOT eat at a specific time, dire health consequences follow? If so, why didn't you PLAN around it?

I have riled against what I believe to be illigitimate gripes on this board, and I have to say I can't imagine too many gripes LESS legitimate than yours. Maybe if someone were to come one and say "2 people were dead in my party and the mages had no MP, and I pulled and IT++ mob that got us all killed, and they got mad! I TOLD them I was pulling before I pulled it!"
Yeah, that would be a gripe to which I could feel less sympathy.
You actually asked to go AFK for 20 mins... jesus fuck.

You guys are forgetting something here, his party said it was ok for him to go afk for 20 mins.

Regardless of what you think "party etiquette" should be you don't tell someone something and do the exact opposite.

AFK for 20 minutes? <Hmm..>

In 20 minutes, you can wash your car, ride up to the store and back, call a friend, get a short workout in, watch an episode of Family Guy, and order a pizza and get it delivered (if not in prime-time). You're basically asking to take 20 minutes that these other 5 people have set aside in their day for you, and it's pretty crazy of you to expect them to not try to find a replacement. I don't care if it's in Boyahda Tree or Mexico, making people wait on you is plain -rude-. Very selfish act, especially if YOU are the one being offended because someone wanted to get EXP rolling. I'd try to find a replacement right away too, as 20 min AFK's can take as long as an hour, depending on the reason for going AFK. How is he to know you will only be gone 20 min? You could go to eat dinner, forget you're on the game, go watch TV, or whatever. If being in a party is top priority in your day, set aside time for it, instead of forcing it into your schedule. Instead of waiting around for YOU to fulfil your duty to the other 5 people, they could be spending their time doing something constructive. Consider the lives of other people... after all, this is massively-multiPLAYER. Meaning lots and lots of real flesh and blood people... like I always say when I'm forced to log for RL reasons... "There will ALWAYS be another party"

lol you tell em dale!

To Coraic:
- Honestly, you shoulda either ate earlier, or formed the party after you ate.
- 2nd of all, can you write? Don't come calling us "nubs" when you can't write your shit in detail. We go off whats written in the forums. Shit, we weren't there, how the fuck are we supposed to know the ranger went AFK for 10 minutes. YOU later said the ranger went afk for 10 minutes before the entire party arrived, which I believe would be ok with anyone. At least he took care of his shit beforehand.

i think i deserve at least that after making the pt and everything

Oh do you? Seems to me that you gave up leadership to someone else. That's your bad. So fuckin what if you made the party? Just because you made the party doesn't mean the other party members owe u jack shit.

I understand that sometimes people have to go afk for whatever reason, but 20 minutes for something like dinner? I mean come'on, do you lack time-management or something? Even I have to go afk sometimes unexpectedly, i.e. unexpected visitors, sudden aggro from gf, water leaking downstairs from a busted toilet, etc. but if I know I'll be gone for some time, I'd leave the party. End point is: You wasted their time, you wasted their food (which costs gil), and you passed the leader to someone else. You got no one to blame but yourself.

About the party saying it was ok (everyone else kinda ignored that), it shouldn't really matter. Maybe the other 4 members were just being nice and maybe they actually wanted the replacement. After waiting for hours for a party there could be 2 possible ways someone would repond to a 20 minute afk in the party:

"Well, I've waited hours and hours for a party...What's another 20?"

or

"OMFG!!!! I've waited horus upon hours for a party and now I that I've got one I have to wait b/c someone has to eat dinner?!!! Fuck that, ind a replacement."

If the replacement wasn't there then it was the new leaders decision about whether or not he wanted you back. Maybe the replacement was a friend of his or an LS buddy who he just happened to mention the situation to. Anyways, you took it too far to call everyone noobs and ay that we should never party with that guy cuz he kicked you for holding up exp.

what i dont understand is....

why couldnt you bring your food to the computer? i'm not sure if somebody already brought this up, but wouldnt it be easier just telling them..

"hold up. i gotta get some food. afk 4 minutes"

** go grab what you're going to eat and bring it back to the computer**

problem solved, nobody is bitching and xping can continue. and dont tell me the game is not playable when you're eating. FF has a very complex battle system, but everything that is done is SIMPLE. just hit ENTER to go into attack mode and while you're stuffing your face, you can use a spare hand to CTRL+# for your macros, same as ALT+#.
