4kids has dropped one piece, and Funimation has picked it up. They will be recasting the VA and will be operating under much less restrictive rules. The best news is, that the DVD's will be completely uncensored.

They're starting at episode 144, since 4kids owns the rights to 1-144 still, but the new episodes are supposed to be out in August. Hopefully they will finally do the series justice.

Exactly how good is the series uncensored? Because the character designs and plot elements I've seen so far completely turn me away.
 
If you have been watching the dubs, they are complete shit compared to the actual series. 4kids took out whole arcs, and massively changed the dialogue to dumb it down for people 2 years old. Basically they took a series that's PG-13 and dumbed it down to sub-G rating.
 
Zoro almost dying from a cut shirt, Luffy being shot with poison sucktion cups. 4kids rapped One Piece like a 10 year old girl.


Mind you those are the only english eps i saw cause it made me sick.
 
To clarify just how badly some stuff was edited...
cigarette -> lollipop. But only if it was a closeup shot - all distances shots it was still cigarettes.

Minor character was killed -> "minor character was wounded so badly they can no longer fight". It's funny how much someone's be crying and swearing revenge when their friends only "unable to fight"...

I actually heard they edited another minor character later in the series and changed them into being the character that was supposed to be killed or some crap. I'm not even sure how the hell they could remotely pull this off, but I was too disgusted to watch and confirm if that was true or not.
 
OH SWEET MERCIFUL GODS! This is awesome news <3 now if only we could get 4kids to drop their damn 1-144 rights so those can all be redone and we can toss every copy and shred of evidence of 4kids having anything to do with One Piece into the pits of Hell.... then the world will be great (for One Piece)
 
And this is why I stay away from dubs. I prefer subtitles. I know I know there are dubs out there that are decent but at least with subtitles your garanted the orginial untampered with version. Plus on a personal note I like the voices better in japanese.
 
Most dubs that come out now are quite good, One piece was unfortunately a 4kids job and has been around for a while. Naruto and Bleach are examples of current dubs with awesome voice work.

I wouldn't say Naruto has awesome voice work. Its translated script is pretty good, a good handful of the actors however, suck.

Bleach on the otherhand, has both a great script translation and voice work.

As for the news..

No. Bleach yes, Not naruto.

Basicly, just stay away from anything done by 4kids.

Aside from the "believe it," which actually has a reason for being there, I haven't had any problems with the VA for Naruto. Kakashi isn't stoned enough, and there's some annoying mispronunciations, but other than that I can't think of anything I didn't like about the english version.
 
So glad that One Piece is finally getting the treatment it deserves, but I don't know how well the DVD's will sell. Most people already got a bad impression from the 4kids version, and most regular One Piece fans either watch fansubs or read the manga, so I don't think it'll sell too well. There's always hope though, I'm more interested in possibly seeing some of the games now translated with better dubs.
 
Yeah, I'm hoping the Wii One Piece game will make it over here now, it's looking pretty good.
 
So is one piece worth watching? I had considered it until i heard how it got raped horribly, then i just kinda skipped it and moved onto other anime (such as bleach and tsubasa chronicles).
 
Wait, why do so many have a problem with Naruto's voice actors? XD

No more crappy rap intro! YAY!!! PLEASE let the intro be the original Japanese or at least something more decent that that craptacular rap intro, that intro sucked. (please let it be the original Japanese intro please please please lol)
 
Actually, I liked the rap intro better than most of the Japaneses openings I saw, but I only started watching around episode 90(sadly I was watching the dubs then and didn't know how bad they were).

I'd imagine they will use the original openings, more and more series have been doing that lately.
