Group work

I am sorry but... i really need to vent about this. I am currently in a class that requires u to write a group paper with 6 other people and submit it for one grade for the group. Just my luck me being the smart kid who sleeps in the back of class i get in a group with 2 complete fucktards and 4 of the more intelegent kids in the class.

Well we turn in the paper the first time roughly 3 weeks ago and it was somewhere in the area of 45 pages. We broke the paper down into 6 sections that would be covered by one person each and an introduction and conclusion to be written by one person. Well 5 of us produced very nice papers on our respective topics but one of the guys who was assigned a topic plagerized the hell out of it and the guy who wrote the introduction and conclusion put together a grand total of 2 seemingly word for word pages out of the encyclopedia.

The teacher then gave us one week to fix all the problems and get rid of the zero that we had recieved for the research paper that is worth 50% of our final grade. The fucktard that was given a topic quickly fixed all of his paper and when we edited it, it was actually well written (cept for the one citation he missed). The intro guy on the otherhand was nowhere to be found. He didnt respond to his phone or email or come to class so 3 of us decided that we would re-write his section. My old roomate and I who are both group members rewrote the introduction and turned the 2page wonder into a 5 page opener. Another member in the group added a 2 page conclusion to the end. After rewriting all of the problem spots that we had the paper went from 45 pages to 54.

We turned it in again and once again got a zero due to the one missed citation with one week and one last chance to fix the problems in the paper. We fixed the one problem and posted it back on blackboard on our group page.

Outta fucking nowhere the intro fuctard got on blackboard today and posted a re-revised copy of our paper where he removed our intro and conclusion and replaced it with his 2 page wonder... He then emailed it to our teacher saying that the copy that we sent the teacher was incorrect (since his section was missing). My old roomate and I then proceed to send a carefully worded email in which we tell the teacher that the fucktard never did anything with the group and we want her to disregard the version of the paper that she recieved. I read through his "redone" version and it is basically a line by line rewording of his previous version.

What really sucks is that we are only getting one grade as a group for this paper and it is worth 50% of our grade. We were letting him have complete credit even tho he did not type a word in the paper and then he goes and sends his 3rd grade style paper to the teacher saying that it is our final copy.

So as of now i have 8 hrs before class and my final exam i dont know if i even have a chance to pass the class. Also on a side note plagerism is a serious accusation and if the dean catches wind of it, it could be grounds for expulsion and all because of god damn group work.

I also hate group work. HATE HATE HATE!!!

I was in an intro engineering class where we had to build a maglev train(Magnetic Levitation, i.e. hovers on magnets). We were supposed to keep costs down to a minimum and spend no mroe than $7 including the magnets. We also had to simulate riders with pennies.

Well, I build an awsome train out of a soda can and a broken hanger. I have the train to a team mate for testing. We hear nothing from him for 2 weeks. Presentation day rolls around, and he comes up to use saying "The Car was too light, so I took it apart." No solution, no modification, no plan on how to pass the course.

Our teacher gave us till the end of class to get a car to pass. I had him empty his pockets, and I made a car in a class period out of his checkbook.

I'm still pissed about it to this day.

Not to step on anyone's toes, but those who sleep in back of the class are the 'think-they-know-it-all' types. The smart kid sits in the front row and pays attention.

Group projects are tough, I have my fair share of them, I don't know what class level this is, but part of the grade of the group project is not so much about the content of the project, but whether you were able to do it as a group.

If this is anything but a 100 or 200 level class, I would have reported those who plagerized as soon as I would have noticed. That's completely unacceptable. Getting those guys thrown out would have cut down your group to a more managable size and would have probably resulted in an easier revision process.

Oh, I'm no MacGyver. The thing barley ran, and was really just magnets glued to his checkbook cover, which I ripped off.

As for the no show guy, most profs will take care of them if you rat em out. I had a group project once where the guy didn't show up till like the 2nd to last class all semester, and we told the prof who gave him a Incomplete.(I guess the guy had a good reason)

Sculli, I thought you were being harsh at first, but as I thought about it more, I agree with ya. Not only is that bullshit to plagerzie in the upper level classes, but he put your who group at risk. You all could have been tagged as plagerist. Thats no joke in the educational world.

Yea im a know it all and i sleep in this class because the teacher is ignorant and goes off on tangents for hours at a time that bear no relation to the class. (3hr class once a week). Also this is in an upper division Gen-ed elective.

JAP 394: Japanese history to be exact

Well we wrote the one guy outta the paper and the other one's part was quite nice after he revised it.

ended up getting a 25/30 which im not really happy with since between me and my friend we wrote ~25-30 pages of it and the guy who didnt do shit got the same grade.

Complete and utter BS.

On a related note we did our evaluations today for the teacher and i have never needed a second sheet of paper before... or the the 3rd i used. Also there is a large number of students in the class with simular issues that plan to talk to the dean next week sometime and i have not decided on wether or not im going to join them yet.
