GRR, DEBIT CARDS!! (caps)

If you dont use your pin for online purchases, odds are SE is charging a service fee because they have to check for funds rather than billing them later, understand? I know Chase (aka Bank One) is like that. Certain banks dont charge you that fee and eat it themselves however.

It's a service fee that SE is passing along to you to run your debit card number. SE is being charged a POS terminal fee since a debit card will not process as a credit card. They in turn pass the fee along to you, as well as making a small profit for themselves since this fee is generally in the range of $.25 USD.

I use my Visa check card for a friend's account that I took over and I don't get the $1 fee. >.>

A Visa checkcard is not a debit card. It's a debit card in the sense that it's linked to your checking account and deducts from there but when a POS terminal transaction is processed on a Visa check card, it is actually processed through the Visa (or MasterCard) credit card system. The reason why Visa has a debit card is for bank liability purposes. On a pure debit card, the possessor of the card is soley responsible for all charges, even if they are fraudulent charges. However, on a check card the drawee institution (i.e. the bank or financial institution) can be liable for fradualent charges on a Visa check card account.

This is why when a individual gets a "second chance" checking account they can only obtain a debit card for that account until their account has 12 consecutive months of good standing. The bank is trying to protect itself against fraud. This in turn is why there is the extra service fee for debit card transactions. Visa/MC is charging banks money to maintain the separate systems, banks pass that cost onto their commercial clients, these commercial clients pass the cost onto the consumer and everyone makes a small profit except for the consumer. And if you're wondering how/why I know all of this it's because I work for Bank of Oklahoma Financial and we own/operate the Transfund ATM network and I have to explain stuff like this to people when they open new accounts.

I use my debit card to pay (not a check card, just a plain old local bank debit with Visa logo) and don't get the $1 fee shown here >.>

Is there even a need to mention it is a debit card since you use it as a credit card anyway?

Anybody here stupid enough to give out the pin number that you are required to use when you use your PIN DEBIT CARD? If you don't use your pin number your not making a PIN DEBIT transaction, your making a credit card transaction.

Service Fee for the Debit Card service since you're using it rather than CC? I know some places in some malls charge money to use debit to pay for the machines. Probably what it is.
I get charged $.25 if I enter my PIN number when buying something, but would not be charged if processing the same purchase as a VISA payment.

Is it possible that you have a content ID for FFXI that isn't being used but is still active, that gets billed at a later time, from a deleted mule maybe?

I have multiple accounts and I have the same problem as the OP but only on one account. I use a CC, no debit. No I have not just recently reinstated an account or mule. Nothing changed on the accounts, this charge just showed up out of nowhere.

It is just $1 but when you think about how many people SE is charging that extra $1...it adds up...and it adds up to some nice cash.

I have planned on calling SE to find out why they are overcharging...but lazyness has won that fight. What fun is it sitting on a phone arguing with an idiot that really don't care either way if you get overcharged or not.
