Grr why is everyone leaving?

I'm not. EQ2 and WoW look lame. No style. Plus this WILL be the first and last MMORPG I will ever play. They are too addictive.

I don't care if people leave. More people come in too.
It's just another way FFXI emulates life. When you are 75, you know less people than when you're 25.
People die. People leave.

I know so many people who have left or are leaving or are at least playing alot less :( it just sucks... Onions I so agree with you lol, this is my first MMORPG also and is my last, I will never play another one of these cause they are way to addictive  :x

i really like the graphics on ffxi better then the recently new mmorpgs that came out... reason why i wouldn't play them. however, my old HNMLS basically fell off because they all went to WoW... and a few other ppl that i know are gone and left to WoW also. even tho' when ppl leave, more ppl come... will i ever cross their path and know them like i've known all those other ppl that have already left? when it's just random ppl that are leaving, no one cares. but when it's your friends and ppl you know that are leaving... it sheds another aspect to the game. kinda sucks.

See Shia's thread for some good reasons why people leave.

I think the thing that adds the most to my ever-growing disenchantment with the game is that SE seems to have a propensity for nerfing anything that might possibly make things easier for players. I'm not going to go into it in detail because I think Shia already said it much better. The thing that keeps me around is the people I've met, but as they slowly leave for whatever reason...well, I don't know. =\

I said the same thing till someone showed me "City of Heros" and my brother in law plans too play "Matrix Online" which I am going too play with him. MMorgs are a great way too hang out with friends and make new ones so I am guessing I will be playing them till I can no longer afford too. I meant saying "This is my last Mmorg game." City of Heros is not that addictive, I found yet. I am only level 9 there lol. But as far as I can tell you do not need too worry about buying armor or spells so you can walk from it for awhile and come back later and level without needing these things.

I liked FFXI in the beginning but it has grown too a more serious game. You need an alliance too do stuff and with my job and hours I have too play I can't do those things. I can barely get five other people too help me. And it has too be certain jobs too which really hurts you. My examples for this are the Prom. missions (where you get too see T.S.), WHM AF body armor, and other B.S. I may not be aware of or left out. Its just frustrating. Also the hordes of Gil sellers that make it hard too make money too get gear, spells, or camp that N.M. you need. If you do not have friends too play with then this game is not worth it. I made some really good friends here that makes this enjoyable. Sorry if this turned into a rant but that might be why people are leaving or playing less and less.

Something as simple as crafting recipe books in WoW makes you realize what a harsh mistress FFXI really is.

Wow offers me the option of soloing as well as partying plus a fresh new enviormetn/economy that is not dominated by higher lvls undercutting prices on crafting materials and raising prices on NM items.

<<<<process of moving, probably wont be on for the next month

you said it best, altho i dont know ppl that leave except for a few IRL friends.

I tried Everquest and stopped playing it after two days. I didn't like it and the players I met were snotty and very unhelpful. One of my coworkers was heavily into FFXI and kept telling me how great it was. I humored him and decided to try the 30-day trial, and I'm glad I did.

I like this game too much to want to quit now. The players have been (for the most part) very friendly and I have a sense of community.

I'm not going anywhere, I hate Everquest and hate Warcraft even more... so.. yeah staying put

I was never big on Warcraft either :P

I won't be leaving anytime soon, all my IRL friends play this game, and we've put too much time into our characters to just get up and go. I still have lots of goals I want to complete, and new zones to explore, I just need to be a high enough level to visit them....

I think there is a natural flux of players as new games come out.
Not everyone is equally attached to a certain game. I have been playing EQ1 for 4 years, within that period of time there were times when I was sidetracked by other MMOs (AO, WW2Online, EnB (ruled!), SWG, EVE, FFXI, CoH), but I have always returned to EQ1, because none of the other games offered what I got out of EQ1.

It's hard to leave a game in which one has made good friends, but the reality is that if one only logs in to chat with friends anymore, then one is really done with the game.

In addition, people have different goals when they play. Some just want to escape real life, and don't care what they do, some want to be as uber as they can possibly be, some want to be challenged, some want <insert your reason here>.

With that comes that based on those priorities people tend to quit the game if they either achieve what they were looking for, or realize that they are unable to achieve it.

Back in EQ1 days there were HUGE player migrations as other MMOs were released. FFXI players were a bit spoiled because during the time FFXI has been running no major MMO competitors were released (well CoH maybe). As Sneakypants said, it's just a natural flux of players as they shift which game they play.

I hate you ><

Anyway, Sculli is right, people are going to leave all the time. I like to think of the MMO community much like the Military Community (Woot! Military Brat!), some people make friends that last forever, but most people make friends for the right now, until they move on to a different military base (or game in this instance).

I played EQ on and off for 3 years, but when I moved to FFXI, I never looked back. I tried City of Heroes for a while, but I was more amused with the character creation process than the actual game. People come and go, but I'd have a lot more regrets if I left FFXI, than I did leaving EQ. I didn't have a huge friend base in EQ, because I played so sporadically, but I know SO many people on FFXI. Sure some of the other MMO's look interesting, but, I like where I am...
