GTA IV Offical Thread - All things GTA

Looks good but where were those screams coming from? That was so fucking annoying.
 
yeh whats up with the screams? and why does that vehicle have the weight of a frisbee? It drives so...flimsy
 
The vehicle in this vid doesn't look flimsy at all. Can't wait to get this game next week!

Heh, all of those games are the same to me. Even Crackdown and Saints Row is the same as GTA in my head. They're all garbage and I can't for the life of me figure out why so many people get a bonner over them. The original GTA is the only one that was worthy of the praise, since it was different for the time. Ever since then it's just a clone with a different city, objectives and beefed up visuals.

This game is really good compared to the rest IMO. The story is actually well created and played out. Instead of just committing crime for the hell of it, the main character just finds himself caught up in it. I haven't done too much of the story yet, but it is starting to shape up pretty well.

The new cover system is badass, although a bit too easy to use. Basically, it is just like Gears of War, except to go to cover, you just hit one button and your character will find the closest thing and just go to it for cover. It makes it easy to get to cover and he does a damn good job of hiding himself.

The targetting system is pretty cool too. If anyone played Scarface, it is kind of like that. The free aim feels very fluid, but I am liking the new auto aim stuff. With auto aim, it will automatically target someone, then with your joystick, you can move it around to target the different parts of the body. I like that auto aim doesn't always mean instant kill, but rather a choice on how you want to take an enemy down or just disarm him.

As far as physics, it is much better in this game. Say you crash your car head on into something, Niko actually will fly out of the windshield this time if you have enough velocity. Cars will mold around objects that you hit and will leave dents that look like would really happen if you hit that object. For example, if you hit a rounded pole and the car still runs after, the car will have a rounded dent in the same spot you hit.

So far I haven't unlocked all the islands yet. The city is made up of 3 sections, one of those sections has 2 parts. You start off all the way in the East kind of like where Queens would be compared to NYC. I haven't unlocked the main island or the areas to the west. The area doesn't seem to be as big as San Andreas, but still huge.

Anyways, this game is great. Yes, I understand GTA isn't everyone's cup of tea, but this game was really made well.
 
I have a friend on XBL that was already playing the game. He was logged on the whole time he was playing it and sent messages about it. He made a LP about it, and i'm pretty sure he's on his way to getting in trouble, but the actual gameplay does look pretty solid.
 
Got it preordered from a site online for 49.99 with 2 bucks shipping. Hopefully it doesnt take 3 months to ship.
 
You have to remember all the work and small details they put into this game.

Yeah but I don't like merging threads, it throws off the feng shui of the thread, especially if both are several pages long. And considering the ps3 thread is more geared towards PSNs and the issues with the 60gb i might leave it for now. Ill take a closer look later.
 
Just make official GTA thread and erase this one lol...

As much as I praise GTAIV for it being simply awesome enough to push the technology of 360 and PS3 and to piss off Jack Thompson enough to send a letter to the lead dev's mother, I think OoT should never move from #1 game of all time spot.

Opinions?
 
Give it a couple of weeks, it'll fall down, and OoT will be back at #1.
