Mistake one) Joining a party with a RDM/NIN.

Mistake two) Staying in said party when said RDM/NIN has nothing but STR/Attack+ gear.

Mistake three)Continuing to stay in said party when said RDM/NIN has macros like Enblizzard, for example: "Actin like cold water can't hurt, bitch i'll kill ya."

Mistake fo--... wait. No. I didn't make mistake 4. We disbanded the party after she decided to go AFK without telling anyone.

That's the nutshell. Extended version!

I get an invite from Guillotina, 50-something RDM/NIN, I forget what exactly. The name's putting off red flags in my mind, but I can't place it. I ask LS, they've got nothing. I figure what the hell, worth a shot.

As we're leaving, we discuss the lack of /BLM sub and /NIN sub... we decide that we're willing to give it a shot, as long as she's using a lot of ninja enfeebles.

We go to Crawler's Nest... while we're outside, a quick check of Guillotina reveals that she's wearing nothing but Attack+ and STR+ gear. No MP+. Did I mention she was elvaan? At this point, I'm just scared, but sometimes I'm too nice to people like this.

We go in, it's decent EXP for a few fights, but there are no beetles... We give up on that and head to Boyahda Tree.

The fun begins.
We fight things, only a minor mishap when a death cap gets pulled, nobody dies.

The RDM however...
1) Casted enblizzard. Regularly.
2) Casted haste on herself regularly until she was informed it was worthless in Boyahda.
3) Casted refresh... on herself only. MAYBE the Paladin or me (WHM) ... if we're lucky. I think I got refreshed 3 times at most.
4) Barely casted enfeebles.
5) The straw that broke the camel's back: She left for a couple fights without telling anyone.

It's not in my nature to tell people off even when they do something really bad, but this earned a chewing out. Granted, I guess most of it was understandable, it's not like she had the MP to spare to cast enfeebles... I think she had around 280 max.

Currently reforming a party with Swishiee (who was also in the party) as I type this. It should go much better. If I missed something, he'll fill it in. Mind like a sieve.

I feel your pain garvin. My last party had a RDM/NIN too and when i read your post the first thing that came into my mind was : "wow, it's the same guy !" :
- Same race.
- Same gear.
- Same "nice" macro comments in "/say" mode.
- Same problem with refresh (at least he was refreshing the WHM on a regular basis ... but has a Galka PLD i had been refreshed only after I died because of a pull when i had 5 MP, and only when my MP was < 20 AND a IT++ mob was pulled).
But he was a male and lvl 44.
So be prepared, the RDM/NIN you met has a little brother somewhere :?

Damn man that sucks....Ellyann was tryin to get you in our party but got no response.....

I was AFK watching Naruto for a good bit earlier, you probably got me then :/

I've partied with Gillotina once. As for the exp party, she wasnt bad, did her part, she melee'd but she also refreshed and such. Her macro's I did find pretty annoying but I just kinda ignored them after a while.

Well after we get done exp partying we got together with some other people and decided to go for the Papyrus paper that night. We had the help of a level 75 Smn, so everything turned out well. However as we were halfway into Eldemien Necropolis (we went straight in from battila downs, because they didnt want to travel) Gilloutina goes afk.. and remains afk for hours to come. Needless to say after getting to where we were trying to go and past the point where if she had come back we couldnt help her get to us, we kicked her out. Stayed in this one area for hours getting papyrus paper. I got mine that night out of all that time there (like 5 hours) we got one drop, and lucky me finally got my paper after numerous paperless attempts.

So yeah, about Guillotina.. hrm.. she was okay as far as being doable in a party. If i needed a rdm and she was the only one available id invite her, but if she pulled that afk crap, she'd be out in a heartbeat. Ofcourse id have to warn the rest of my party members that they'ed have to try their best to ignore here macros.

She refreshed me all when i needed it, but then, I also told her to when i needed refresh. She did, without complaint so I can't be totally angry with her. Not the best rdm out there, thats for sure. But she isnt horrible, atleast my experience with her wasn't horrible.

Not rank, nor level is a cure for stupidity,

Redmage / ninja iis bullcrap, jesus christ wtf, ^^;

That party sucked. She didn't really do anything to contribute other than spamming Enblizzard and hitting the spiders for a useless amount of damage. Only time she cured was after she returned from AFK for about 10 minutes. Didn't even really use Convert. Only saw her use it once.

As for the party we made afterwards, it was great. I was hoping to level, but it took a little while to get a full group together, so we didn't exp as long.

Ya, I had much the same experience with this guy. Overall, just a bad player. He went AFK in my pt too and just logged without saying a word...

-Ham

RDM/NIN isn't the problem.

People who play the RDM job bad are the problem.

^^

I can pick up RDM/NIN and do a freakin' great job! Same with RDM/DRK. Hell, give me RDM/WAR and I'll still be a better RDM than your average RDM/BLM or /WHM.

The /NIN sub isn't the problem... it's the mentality that most of these people think they're there to be a melee damage dealer, which just isn't practical. You can contribute -some-, but not enough to warrant abandoning your mage duties. If you can fulfill those duties, feel free to reward yourself with some solid melee time.

Rdm/ninja is the problem, rdm arent meant to be big melee, no matter what subjob, so they should just get over them selves, put the bradly games throug the shreder, and level a mage for a subjob, ^^;

And rdm / dark? WTF?

Hah, krono.. stop right there bud. ^^

Rdm/Nin is not a bad combo, though it really doesnt help a party out much, if a rdm can still do his/her refreshing and keep himself good on mp as well then there's no problem with them doing some miniscule melee either. At the high levels it gets a bit more effective, as elemental debuffs will make your magic do more damage, as well as make your enspells more effective. Which if your doing some melee, isnt a bad thing. But lower levels.. nope not really all that helpful. Though, if they can do the job I require of them (in my parties), I dont care what else they want to do. I have seen people use this combo for pure melee, those are who make it look like crap. I have also seen rdm/nin that do their jobs as rdm correctly, and like to add a little melee into the mix, these are the ones that do the combo justice. Though mainly because they simply know how to help the team out, rather than help themselves. (Lots of rdm/nin i've seen tend to be greedy with their refresh, or just in general have a "im leet" attitude because of their ninja sub)

Rdm/Drk on the other hand is only really useful lvl 62+, the whole reason for this combo is to gain some of the Drk Absorb spells, which can be pretty useful to Rdm. 62 gets you Absorb-Mnd, the rest of the Asb spells you gain dont help the mage side as much, but they do weaken the mob. Not to mention this is the only other combo that will give Rdm Aspir other than Blm. I'm not entirely sure what else this combo is capable of, guess it would help a rdm do a tiny bit more dmg too, as well as having some added resistances to poison and paralyze.

Basically for both combo's, it all has to do with the player's skill in the end. Good skills make a combo good, bad skills make it bad.

(Im really freaking tired.. so if this made sense then woohoo, if not, ah well.. i tried)

i have never in the history of my ff career seen a rdm casting an absorb spell.

NOR DO I WANT TO SEE THIS.

Rdm/Drk has one purpose and one purpose only: Chainspell+stun on gods and really bad HNM. THAT IS ALL. Rdm gain stun via drk sub at 74. (37 drk)

Rdm dark magic caps a lot lower than a dark knights dark magic and WE get resisted very often. The cast time on an absorb spell is abysmally long, they cost 33 MP EACH and wear off rather quickly. This is like telling a dark knight to sleep the add, uh huh suuuuuuuure hmm not gonna happen.

as an aside, do any of you rdm's out there keep your drk magic capped?
I cap mine each level and still get resisted 3/10 times.

ok here my point, if these jobs do work at lv60~75 or w.e

Why waist my time and others leveling with them at earlier times, level redmage / whm blm, and dark knight / war thf, then combine, jesus christ,

I'd like to see a lvl 60 RDM/NIN land his elemental debuffs on a lvl 70 mob. ^^

RDM/NIN is a horrible combination. It adds NOTHING to the party, or to the effectiveness of doing your job as a RDM. That makes it bad. A 50 RDM with no sub would be just as effective as a RDM/NIN. That makes it a worthless combination.

I've been told to try the rdm/nin, but I refuse to do so. I'm a rdm/blm to help with my enfeebs to actually stick that I cast as soon as they wear off if its not close to dead. I'm only lvl nin to sub with my rdm during ballista and thats it. I'm not tryiing to be like the jack ass rdm's I see running around subbing nin. The only thing that it actually adds tot he party is helping with elemental spells but still I play a blm as well so when something doesn't do as much damage as it should when the creature is weak to it or whatever I just try something else. In my opinion a RDM/NIN is just as bad as a BLM/DRK (i have seen them running around). If your thinking of doing a rdm/nin forget it just cause us rdm's get enspells doesn't mean we have to freaken dual wield to try and keep up with the other melee. I've been told that I do my job very well cause I convert whenever I need to to keep chains going I always cast refresh on myself first (most people will say otherwise) but thats to make sure I don't run out of mp myself, then I hit up the PLD (well of course to cure himself and hold hate better) and then the WHM (with a pld should only have to heal after an AoE or the pld can't get himself cured quick enough); then my attention goes to the blm or drk. But since I just told all you rdm's what I do in a party and most of the people that I've partied with say I do a really good job so unless I find something else that works this is what I'm doing until then.

Sorry that I kind of rambled on like that LOL I just hate rdm's that don't know how to do their job right or at least better then what I've seen.

A RDM is a RDM. Plain and simple.

How is /NIN taking -away- from the job? Hell, if you're Tarutaru like I am, and pimpin' MP gear, and have gear-swap macros like I do, what's the problem?
I personally party (when I do level RDM) as a RDM/BLM, but does that mean all of a sudden, I would be a BAD redmage if I subbed ninja? No. To a talented mage, subjob shouldn't really matter -that- much, especially if the rest of the party is carrying their weight as well. Most of the time, I find the people who complain about other's odd subjob choices happen to be subpar at their own job in the party, and they're trying to tell someone else how to play theirs.
I certainly don't understand how people have so much hatred for a subjob choice. Apparently some people don't get the point and are even more stubborn than myself, and have already made up their minds coming here to post the same crap over and over. Why bother? Most of you have made up your minds about what is "good" and "bad".

I'm curious as to what response this will get... I just have to know how some of you people think:

Who would YOU rather invite...
1) a RDM/NIN that you've partied with before, is up to date on spells, has proven to do his job without holding your party back from chaining consistently (meaning, not his fault if you fail to hit higher chains, meaning he always has MP for next chain)

oooor...

2) a RDM/WHM that you've never partied with before, you know nothing about, doesn't even have a search comment or anything giving you a hint in what's store.

Personally, I think RDM/WHM is the best combo for WHM, as it rounds out your role as a support caster with seal, status cures, higher MND, -ga spells, etc.

/BLM? I like it, and here's why:

Aspir at 50
Drain at 24
Escape at 60
Warp (lazy ass spell) at 34
Seal (to land enfeebles) at 30
Few more MP than WHM sub, and Conserve MP trait at 40

/NIN doesn't offer all this, I know. But my argument is what it was from above... I know BLM and WHM are the best subs, easily. However, if you KNEW a player to be very skilled as a /NIN, would you refuse to invite them over another random seeking /BLM or /WHM?
