I've recently re-discovered building model kits, even though I haven't seen alot of gundam. (But boy did I play the crap out of dynasty warriors gundam 2!)

I'm trying to find the proper way to infuse colour into the clear plastic pieces of the model kit.
I recently bought a Gundam 00 with Riser and it shows that the forhead and top of his rifles are colored clear plastic, but the actual model is completly clear. I know that they make it look like that for sale value, but I've heard of a way to add color to the clear pieces using food coloring, hot water, and some sort of chemical. Any one have any ideas?

Just checking, but is this the model you're talking about? Just wondering so I have a better idea of what you're trying to do.

Admittedly I've never painted any of the models I've built so far since they're usually well colored on their own except for my Tallgeese III. But my advice would be to check the color guide that came with the model and find a local hobby shop to get the paint. And it couldn't hurt to look up some pictures of the completed model online for reference also. For some of the finer details, like the black lines in the gun and back of the hand in the picture above for instance, they sell paint markers specifically for gundam models. I've seen them on ebay, and I'm sure you could find them elsewhere online.

Hope that helps.

Man, time for me to break out my Master Grade Burning Gundam from MF:G Gundam :D

oh man, i used to love the fuck outta building gundam models,

This is the actual model I am building:
http://www.amazon.com/Gundam-00-Rai...e=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1256654024&sr=8-4

I've seen the gundam markers, and I have a few of my own. I just don't have anything that would make a clear piece gain a colored tint. More research!

Thanks for all the assistance so far.

XD
The question is, can you stack SATA with Burning Finger?!

Thanks for the thread Kajimaru =)

I've got a fair amount of Gundams, but admittedly I've never painted them. Perhaps for the Master and Perfect Grades I'll do in the near future.

Coincidently, Bandai FINALLY decided to release a Master Grade Victory Gundam, perhaps a MG V2 Gundam will follow soon.

XD Is it time for a Model Kit thread? lol!
When I get back to my house this weekend I'll take pictures of my SD Strike Freedom and Archer for 00. I've used Gundam Markers on both. Feel free to post pictures if you have them. XD

Ah, I see what you mean. After looking at the pictures I did notice that the crest on the forehead is translucent pink and I see the blue on the guns. Not too sure how to get that effect, though if you find a way I'd suggest to test it before you try it on the actual pieces of the model. I'm guessing there's still some of the clear plastic on the frame that held the pieces.

I need some way to post pictures (and a way to take them) so I can show off my 1:100 Deathscythe and Wing Zero. Tallgeese III is still in the box though, at least until I can get some paint.

shit amazon sells them? i am so buying one

paint markers?

i remember when i used to do em the way i would paint them is just go over with black and wipe away ( to get the black lines in the grooves effect) toward the end i built a very nice expensive one which i embellished a little with some battle damage and rust wearing

so am i to believe that these gundam markers do that very deed?

www.hlj.com is the place to go for kits and everything else you'll fucking need for the hobby. Trust teh Bootz he's been doing it for years. And before I forget its fucking GOD Gundam for fucks sake.

Oh lord, I know that. If I could find a damned Devil Gundam, I'd be a happy fucker.

Box says "Burning Gundam", I'mma call it that

I only have two markers (yellow for the horns, or v-shape on the head, and a grey to shade in dark areas.) but I bought some really fine point paint markers (.2 and .05mil) for the detail in the grooves and they work great so far.
I'm not sure if the above sentance makes alot of sense though, it's early in the day. Orz.

The only Devil Gundam kit I remember is the old HG which doesn't suck, but might be more difficult to find these days.

On Gundam Markers; they are, in fact, just paint markers but conveniently they come in packs of themed colors for different suits/factions like Zeon, EFSF, and so on. If you really want to tear up a kit and practice damage details get a cheap kit and a soldering iron, makes pretty convincing beam/heat saber damage.

I forget is the HG the Size where the Joints accually start moving? or is the the one where only the Arms and Legs move, but dont bend at the Elbows and knees

Casue i remebre i had a 12" GP-03 Physeslis From Stardust Memories which was fucking awesome.. Wish i had the Dendrobium to go with it.

Then is had a Strike Gundam which only moved at the hips and Shoulders.

HG is the 1/144 scale your strike was prolly one of the crap kits they released as promotion.

yes to model section!
if you want paint that tints....tamiya. they make colored clear paints. works well for me. which, i use it for painting clear surfaces to resemble water.
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/category.php?sub-id=60100

here is the link for the clear yellow
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=81524

also, on this, if the color for the transparent yellow is too dark, you would have to find a way to lessen it. not sure if thinner would work since it would really thin the paint more than reduce the color. but adding clearcoat to a mix should reduce the darkness of this paint.
