(I haven't done this kind of thing before so please bear with me)
Well, last night marked the final phase of the Gundam SEED series on AnimeCentral.
After watching all the episodes of this series, I really do think it is awesome. Now bearing in mind, the only Gundam series I have seen in the UK are Wing and SEED, and there is no news if SEED Destiny will be on sooner or later, I don't call myself an expert in the series, so until I get to import/DL the other series of Gundam, I won't say that this is THE absolute best in the series.
Anyways, what I liked about the series when it was aired:
* It was the first Gundam series aired in YEARS!
* It was unedited, so there were no edits like in the US series. (I haven't seen the US series so I won't have much to go on other than from what I heard on the internet)
What this means is that there are no lazor pew pew disco guns held by the Earth forces, ZAFT or ORB. The only lazors that were in the series were on the mobile suits themselves.
This also meant that the rather, *ahem*, somewhat controversial scene between Kira and Flay in episode 16 is left fully in. No edits at all.
There were also uses of the words "Damn", "Shit", "Bastards" and so on.
Finally this also meant that deaths weren't edited, so say when the super weapons were activated and hit they're target, when it went inside to show the deaths of the targets, it shows them litterally exploding, also I think one of the more gruesome explosions had shown a person's guts for a split second.
Now while watching the series, I was actually enjoying it and I actually felt some emotion about the characters for the first time in ages ever since I started watching more and more anime. I also felt really good when certain bad guys died because they were right jerks. Also, while I knew what was gonna happen to Flay in the series (and though I hated her so much in the series), it was kinda upsetting to see exactly how she had died. Not only was it a complete slap in the face to Kira who was trying to protect her from Rau's gunfire, it was kinda heartbreaking. I haven't felt that kind of emotion in an anime in a very very long time.
Moving on to the music, I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I now want to buy the anime soundtracks to the series. This anime has sparked my interest to buy the soundtrack to the series, and possibly many more anime series that I like.
My final thoughts, this series was definately great, and I am really glad that AnimeCentral obtained the rights to air it in the UK unedited, just how every anime should be! Hopefully AnimeCentral will bring SEED Destiny on sooner or later (Hopfully after they air GI Joe (Is GI Joe an anime?!)). I'm definately gonna be getting the box sets of this when it comes out in the UK.
I rate the series: 8.5/10
(whew, I haven't written this much in a while, especially on a forum @^_^@ )
