not necessarily. You could have something that keeps track of that while the zones down, perhaps.. *shrugs* though again, I'm not really certain how they'd work with keeping performance well and whatnot. :P

The live camera wouldn't be up. Do you think theres always someone in the zones on the server it breezes through?

QFT, that's kind of pathetic.

Cool your jets, man. In terms of running an MMO that is kind of pathetic. It's no more a slam than being able to log in and see it for yourself. :P

Its not really pathetic. No other MMO have that many people in one zone at the same time.

Look at WoW. That shit runs slow as fuck as soon as you enter Stormwind. they have nowhere near as many people in the area.

everyone expects so damn much...

If expecting a working product is too much v.v;

and your client does not recieve the Down/Up of all 696 people. Only those within a certain radius of you. So unless all 696 are afk outside the MH, you're probably only getting like 200 at the most.

Also keep in mind the R0 issue for many folks is happening only in signet areas forcing people to stay in TaU areas.

Doesnt beseiged hold 700+ people at a time plus invading mobs and chatty npc generals? Makes me wonder why the very zone next door people enter from cannot handle a number very close to that.

I get R0 failure in Bibiki Bay and Promy-Mea hardly signet areas.

No, you aren't interacting with 100-200 people, but, the server has to send you and those 200 other people all of the info for all of those 200 people continuously.

Think about that.

The more people are close together in a very small area, the worse the lag gets, because the server has to put more work into sending exponentially larger amounts of information to everyone in that small area.

SE seems to have some kind of partitioning of zones, too, as Besieged can be lagged beyond comparison at ~700 people but Whitegate right next door will be perfectly normal... which would suggest that single zones are even less capable of sustaining such huge numbers.

That's pretty funny. Some random mule zapped to Cape Terrigan for not dispersing. Boom, headshot!
\

I lmao irl at this omg this would be SOOO AWESOME

but yes this is pretty funny

I'm speaking of areas linked to signet areas. You get crystals in Bibiki Bay with signet. Emptyness maybe not but the zones are attached to the Crag areas which are signet based. Sanction based areas and adjacent areas no problem. I'm assuming SE has different servers for TaU at a different location.

I find it funny you are comparing lolWoW to FFXI. FFXI a game that run on more console then any other game in history, Has now 5 different languages to translate on all servers unlike where most games have area based servers. Hell even when it come down to the very format there diffent. comparing ffxi to wow is like comparing CD's to A-trax.

You obviously haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

LMAO, get more RAM and learn to do your homework before speaking.

600-1k people in a zone isn't even hiccup worthy for a good user-system running almost any MMO. The problem here? SEs servers blow dogs for quarters and have since XI's inception.

Uzor and hellstorm obviously don't quite understand what they're posting to. The fact is that if a zone is designed for 700-1k people plus NPC presence then it is pathetic that it requires staff intervention with that many people around. Those of us who read and know a thing or two about MMOs, servers, networking computing, and whatnot can recognize this and call it what it is. Failure on the part of SE. Take the 'don't attack my game crybaby bullshit elsewhere unless you actually have a point about something you clearly understand, thank you.

Case in point:

City of heroes: 600 in a zone? try 870+ in one fight in one zone during an event.

Eve online: 800+ people, one zone, corperation on corperation warfare is fun.

I don't even have to go reaching and slamming and posturing about my game of choice to put a perspective on what you're saying and how you lack credibility based on those statements. It's just that easy.

And i really hate to break this to you but i can run around IF and SW with 600-1000 people in town during a holiday event without so much as a hiccup on either end of the connection. Hell, Hellfire penninsula had a total of 3 thousand people in it on my server post x-pack release and once they got the xpack bugs taken care of i went about xping with the masses, so please don't preach like you have any idea wtf you're talking about especially within the confines of a game you've never done more than look at the box art to.

Side note for hell: regionalisation is as much a benefit to the community (herro JP-ONRY!) as the programmers. If you think a translator is either hard to do or is somehow a new invention XI cornered the market on go pick up a couple old copies of ultima online and get yourself educated. 5 languages is actually a little bit of a joke in comparison to many games that don't require user input to work the translator. In short it's old news, which is kinda weak when giving consideration to how flawed and clumsy the XI translator actually is compared to much older games.

oooo cross platform release. And yet even with that much muscle it couldn't sustain scrips comparable to other MMOs that've been out for much longer than it has. I must say you sure do have a point there.

The people who brought WoW in to the topic, oddly enough, are XI players. Curious, no? The really juicy part is that when someone you know for damn sure plays wow agrees with alot of the other ffxi players that the issue at hand is, indeed, a little pathetic on the part of SE guess what happens? That's right you posture, get pissy, and bait the WoW player all the while not saying a damn thing in disagreement or bothering to quote people from your own game who happen to see it for what it is also. You kids, i tell ya. That's clever shit.

Please elaborate your statement, inform us on topic.

Not that he had to, anybody worth their salt on the topic came in informed. You'd figure more people would follow that example.

To clarify see above.

I know about networking tyvm. I've taken several courses in it. And I regret to inform you that you're wrong on several points

1) The game isn't designed to hold 600-700 people in the same zone.

2) City of Heroes is possibly the worst MMO in history. The ammount of lag in that game (An no, not client-side lag) is laughable. And yes, I have played that game. It sucks. Nothing about it is good.

3) I have played WoW. Got bored of it. So no, I didn't just "look at the box art". And no, it was not client-side lag as I can run around in the zone just fine without lag. That's not the issue. The issue is with slow response time from the server. Sometimes it even takes upwards a minute just to search for an item on the auctionhouse. That's not client-side graphic lag.

I'm quite amazed that you preach about us not knowing what you talk about when everything you type smells like something I wouldn't even touch with a 10-foot stick.

And yes, I do agree that its partly SE's fault, as they most likely could make them run faster. Like, say, getting better computers, and redo the way they recieve and send data, and stop sending lots of fucking useless shit like updating every alliance members TP and MP, etc.

However, doing that requires a lot of resources. Resources which could be better spent on improving other aspects of the game which, mind you, everyone complains about all the time.

Check your facts on besieged again. Actually the game damn well outa be designed to stress test that much or better for being a major title. If it wasen't you have SE to blame, not me for bringing it to your attention. Home/office networking courses don't count. As you've taken courses on networking i suspect you know that games of this nature stress test regularly at twice that number or better and have for the past 5-10 years. You did know that right?

2) City of Heroes is possibly the worst MMO in history. The ammount of lag in that game (An no, not client-side lag) is laughable. And yes, I have played that game. It sucks. Nothing about it is good.

Get a better system. How you lag on a game with a max pop per server of 1-3k is beyond me. I never did, want my dxidaig? Hell i still have an account i can go activate over there and show you via fraps.. I don't know quite what you're getting at here other than again you lack either knowledge, hardware, or experience based on what you're talking about

Meanwhile back at the ranch i've been playing for over a year and had your problems until a PC upgrade and then they all just magicly disappeared. Must just be a coincidence. You're statements > my experience and the experiences of every player i've talked to including the ones here with regards to in town lag and PC upgrades. Amirite?

Since you obviously don't quite understand how it works i'll break it down for you. WoW has world servers. Outland. Kalimdor. Eastern kingdoms. These servers do not care who's where. These server's care how many people total they have on them with regards to lag and crashes. The computer that cares how many people are where you are is your own. No other computer but your computer causes you to lag in IF/SW/SHATT/etc unless the server is actually having a rare unstable moment during maint or after a patch which is to be expected by a rational mind. If you're in an instance (read on the instance server) and you're lagging and other people arent, guess what? your computer. If you're in IF and say 'hey is anyone lagging?' and recieve as many yesses as nos then guess what? Your computer. That simple. Modem, RAM, Video, something on your end is causing this. That you have the problems in multiple games you've spoken on only shows that you, indeed, have a problem with either your connectivity or hardware with these games.

I'm quite amazed that you preach about us not knowing what you talk about when everything you type smells like something I wouldn't even touch with a 10-foot stick.

I'm not preaching. I don't have to. People can read it for themselves and draw the conclusion quite easily. I did. How do you smell a post? If mine smell that bad hellstorm's must have you choking back dry heave with watery eyes.

And yes, I do agree that its partly SE's fault, as they most likely could make them run faster. Like, say, getting better computers, and redo the way they recieve and send data, and stop sending lots of fucking useless shit like updating every alliance members TP and MP, etc.

Partly my ass. Oh yea and ... realtime stat updates during combat, useless ... gotcha. Who needs to know their MP anyway, right?

However, doing that requires a lot of resources. Resources which could be better spent on improving other aspects of the game which, mind you, everyone complains about all the time.

I could.... but i wont touch this statement with a 10 foot pole. Much like the rest of your post it's entirely off-topic and only speaks to more flamebaiting. It's skaw's fucking topic he just didn't go in to detail aside from the title. People were expected to realize this was sad to the point of smirking. Get to flaming your own if you give that much of a shit about the fact that 700 people in a zone is really fucking pathetic for any MMO. Just because i comment on a thread doesn't mean the sandy vagina squad has to go about reading entirely too much in to it and picking a fucking schoolyard fight about it in every topic i happen to meander in to.

Singling me out for repeating what other people have said is a little ridiculous and more than a little sad.

It's not as if i came in here slathering drool here and there just to take XI down a peg in the name of another game. Much unlike you and hellstorm. Like i said, cool your jets. Keep it in your pants. This isn't the FB, learn the difference.

Well WoW is translated into various languages just like FFXI.

Don't think that was Hellstorm's point though.

I believe it was that SE is the only MMO run on Xbox, PC and PS. Thus, its limited by the capabilities of the slowest system (PS). That means they can't do anything unless the PS can support it.

Although they don't really push PS to its limits either.... they could do a lot more and still be within PS limitations. Like raise inventory space to 80, or even more by making it sort by pages, 80 on each page. Thus still technically only showing 80 items at a time.

They could also raise the limitations by simply stop sending useless information that's not used by the client anyway. The only time you actually read someone elses TP is when they do <tp>, so you don't need to know everyones TP untill they actually send it to you. Thus reducing the ammount of information sent and recieved to both the client and the server.

Well why say " Has now 5 different languages to translate". I like you Uzor but you're 110% wrong about it being server lag in SW. Unless the servers having problems (which Blizzard will notify people of) it's 99/100 your PC and as RoM said your problems with multiple MMO's further proves this point.
