Well most of my close friends have known for a while, I was hacked a couple months ago, and when I found out what I had to do to get my account back I thought I would just call it quits. Now I've been wanting to play lately, and in order to recover my account, I have to get a notarized letter to prove to SE that I am the real account owner.

Anyways, I went to a local law office to find out if they would be able to notarize the letter for me, and they told me they could, however they told me it would cost me $100 +tax to get it notarized. Now I'm not sure if they are going to rip me off, or is this normal? $100 seems a bit much for a stamp from them, but I don't know, never had to do this before.

Any thoughts/feed back?

It sounds high but then again you are going to an attorney. Can you just look up a notary in your office or go to anyone who does taxes that might also have the ability to notorize your document? Might be quicker and cheaper that route. Hope that helps

Agreed, most banks offer that service cheap to their current customers. If not, try going to a Notary Public, most they charge is $35 from what i've seen.

Jesus don't go to attorneys, they make you pay out the wazoo. Seems like masterorion gave you the best way! Poor cookie distributor. ; ;

also, what i did was typed in "notary" into google search. one of the first 5-10 results is a google map that also gives you the website link to places. not even to mention the address where they are. stick with public places though. dont go to a "professional" notary. they WILL charge you alot

Thanks guys! In fact I did go to my bank to see if I would be able to get it done there, but they were kinda unsure, and I didn't have the letter on me so they couldn't make a final say. They said they could only put a bank stamp on it. Think I should probably go back with my letter and see if they can actually do it?

You could probably get it at Town Hall too. Don't think they charge too much. You may even know a notary, or your parents!

i got a notary through my bank. which is wells fargo. if you use a small town bank. they may or may not. use google to search notary. see what it pulls up

I NEED to keep my parents out of this. They are very anti-game, and going to them saying "Oh hey, can you guys help me get a notarized letter? My character was hacked by someone in China and I need to get a notarized letter to get it back." will not go over well lol. Also, my account was under my brother's name and credit card, so he is going to have to be the one to come with me, so I don't want to go somewhere too far because he didn't sound happy when I told him he'd need to be there to get it notarized.

also, when it comes to the banks and their notaries, they have a specific person or two that do it. they are licensed people. if you talk to a normal teller, they may have no clue what your talking about.
what the notary does, is verify the validity of a document and that it is you signing the document therefor making your statement a legal statement. so, when you bring this letter, you dont want it to be signed yet. they have to witness you signing it.
