Hackers and Cheaters alike: Owned!

Nice. Hopefully it bites as bad as it barks.

Ummmmm...

Yeah...

That was shown a bit ago if you check the update headlines by just
logging into PlayOnline Viewer. It's right there.

(Am I the only one who reads it, and the Vana'diel Tribune?)

Anyway, there's also been related posts.

Due to them "cracking down on third-party applications", this has put
a damper on FFXI Windower working CORRECTLY.

And as such, the creator of the Windower made an update on July 5th,
stating that he was modifying the windower to get around this problem,
plus add some nifty new features.

If they're monitoring for this stuff how this impresses on me they will a number of NM hunting tricks and cheats are gonna get ended for the gil sellers

And can't you consider a lot of these 'nifty new features' for the new Windower just THAT close to being a bot, or at least bot-esque?

EDIT: I'll explain. While some of the features are harmless (/tell notifications, viewing other pt members' TP) the fact that the plugins are basically open-source is the Windower group giving a wink and a nod to those that want to script bots and other exploits into the windower.

They can say "We do not condone X or Y" all they want, but you can almost guarantee an explosion of bots and scripts after plugin support is added.

I emphatically agree, this leaves it wide open for whatever kind of scripting whomever wants, built into the windower.

It just makes the windower a lot bigger target for SE than before.

Obviously its not in their good graces in the first place...

Well... I suppose you're right, Cubswoo.

Hence why originally ALT+TABing in FFXI would purposely crash the game,
as an anti-hacking defense. We (the users) got around that, though.

Can't really rely on everyone to do "good". Look at the Japanese players
we know and love so well.

As much as the developer modified this new Windower with good intent,
the plugin function was a mistake.

Originally I was under the impression that these were FEATURES. If that
was the case, then I'd be OK with that. But he's put them in a PLUG-IN
format... revealing open source... allowing us to do whatever we want
with it.

Perhaps he was expecting some of us to create some worthwhile and
useful plugins like that one screenshot of the modified FFXI interface
(that seemed oddly reminiscent of the same interface used in Lineage II).
Remember? It had a sub-screen map off to the right side, with a map
marker? That would've been nice.

Maybe someone will come up with something like that.

But in contrast, I suppose it is slightly a bit naive on his part to assume
that we'll take advantage of this for good purposes. American, Japanese,
and Chinese players all hate each other for various reasons.

Americans hate Japanese because we see them as racist, botting, hacking
assholes who view us as "weak" (even though I think that only applies to
Lucifar and his kind).

Japanese hate Americans because they see us as idiots who get "slow
EXP", we like to MPK THEM, we inflated "their" economy, and camped
"their" NMs.

Americans and Japanese hate the Chinese because... well... that's clear.

Gil-Selling.

The Chinese aren't complaining because both Japan and America are
giving them money, which is very hypocritical of both NA and JP, because
we complain that they're screwing up our game, and yet we give them
money, encouraging them to keep doing what they're doing. Obviously
we probably enjoy being abused.

But back to my original point; this is simply a means, or a tool for NA, JP
and... umm... CH to "combat" each other. I'm just waiting for Square-Enix
to do what Sega / Sonic Team did with Phantasy Star Online. Just sit back,
and WATCH us struggle and feud with one another as the saga unfolds.

I completely agree. I really wish he would have kept it simple. I kinda cringed when I learned what types of plugins were included with 3.2. It would have been better to be strictly a windower and nothing more.

a few weeks from now the term "Legit" is gona be a popular as noob in the flameboard ;-)

At least it shows SE is finally doing something about it, there's another thread around here where someone got a 96 hour ban for having the windower, the guy hadn't ever been spoken to by a GM before, so if thats a warning with windower, think of what would happen with people that have every other 3rd party program to pinpoint NMs/HNMs, find out there spawn times, etc, etc. if SE truly does live up to this standard from now on of course, at least you can say that they are upping there attempts, although, flying is just a bit more obvious to detect than the programs used to detect NM's and such, but, still.

Go go SE! You're on a roll!

Yes, way to go after a tool that isn't harming anything/anyone in game. Big boys you are SE. Do something about the stuff that matters...

What? Like packetsniffers? Cause SE is just dandy with those.....

Yeah, someone can even make a script for their whole alliance to move to the spot, claim, and fight the HNM without manually doing any work and SE will be "Oh, okay! Have fun!"

Until the moment people are doing it while not at their PC, to which someone else could make a script that would respond to GM tells using specific words it can pick up! Then NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

best thing about that link is the post that says we should make the baning like the deletion in .hack and have them publicly executed in jeuno by a bunch of rangers :D
that would set an example for those who are thinking about cheating, and it would be fun to watch while looking for a group in jeuno :D
