Simply put, it's a mod for Half-Life 2 thats an RTS. It plays a lot like Company of Heroes/Dawn of War but in the Half-Life universe, even down to the capturing of resource supply buildings. It's Rebels vs. Combine, with Antlions, Zombies(And their related headcarbs), and potentially many more as unplayable hazards.

The AI is a bit finicky when moving around. It likes to stay glued to walls as much as possible, which can be a pain when moving around a pretty large group of units. I've only played the training map, but so far Rebels have a basic grunt-like unit labeled "Rebel," Medic, Engineer, and the RPG Rebel. The Rebel and Engineer are pretty much the same. Same Health, same weapon(the SMG,) and same look. The difference is in their abilities. Rebels can throw grenades, Engineers can build shit from automated turrets and hopper mines to buildings. That said, on the training map Turrets are fucking ridiculously overpowered. Set four of them up facing where the combine are coming from, and the Combine can't do anything because they don't acquire the turrets before the turrets acquire them. This makes advancing towards the Combine base to capture it pretty much a joke. I'll explain why it's "pretty much," and not completely in a moment.

The Medic, as you'd expect, can heal your guys, so it's helpful to have plenty of them. They also auto regenerate their own life over time, but if they're really low, you can have them heal themselves. The RPG Rebel is pretty pointless in the training map. I think he's only useful against Vehicles or Striders, neither of which appear on the training map. They don't fire on footsoldiers :( Unless they're bugged and they're supposed to. They also get as-of-yet untrainable Vortigaunts, which are pretty spiffy. On the minimap, Rebels are orange.

Okay, enough of the Rebels. You play as the Combine on the second and third available map. You've got your regular Soldier, armed with your basic combine assault rifle or an SMG - seems random. Soldier with a Shotgun(different unit.) Both versions have Grenades as their abilities, the shotgun is absolutely unparalleled for standard infantry weaponry if your soldier can get in real close. Combine Elite with the Combine Assault Rifle and the bouncy ball of doom as their ability(the alt-fire for the same weapon in Half-Life 2.) That thing is made of absolute rape. It kills in one hit, and can rock multiple targets in a line. Stalkers which act as the Combine versions of Engineers. They have their laser gaze that they use in Episode 1. It actually looks pretty cool.

And the currently untrainable Hunters, which are two words: Bad. Ass. They can take a huge beating, and clear out a good number of units on their own. These are why the training mission isn't a complete joke, because there are two of them there, and they just shrug off turret fire. Instead of automated turrets, Combine get mounted MGs, which are kinda better, yet not. You have to sacrifice a unit to man them(which is bad because you have a limit,) but they have a semi-protective cover, allowing them to last a good bit. They're represented on the minimap with the color blue.

Antlions have Drones and Workers(the acid spitters from Episode 2) and Guards. They aren't too bad, except for guards which are absolutely ridiculous. Luckily the rest of the Antlions seem to outnumber them 100 to one. They do have their own buildings, but they're all underground so you don't get to see them. They show up as yellow on the minimap.

Headcrabs, headcrabs, headcrabs. No indication of whether or not they're really associated with a side per se. There aren't any headcrab training buildings in the game, they're just scattered across the map like Creeps in WarCraft III. You've got headcrabs, you've got zombies. All three types. Normal, Fast, and Toxic. No Zombines around yet. It'd be neat to see them expanded, like if a zombie-less body headcrab kills a unit, that unit turns in to a zombie or something. But as of now, they're just fodder. The toxic ones hurt like fuck, and the toxic zombies take so much fire power to go down. I forget what color they are.

Anyway, it's still in very early beta, but worth mentioning.
