Found on eBay Australia is an auction promising Halo 3 – “the real deal” – as available immediately. Some may cry hoax, but the seller posted convincing photographs of both a sealed copy of the game along with another picture showing the complete, opened package with disc.

For such a hot item, one would expect a considerable bidding war for the chance to play Halo 3 two weeks in advance of official release – but interestingly, the seller set a limit for his auction with the “Buy It Now” option at AU$149 (around $124). Needless to say, the item was snatched up in less than a day.

I personally know some people from the days of my halo2-ness that would easily have paid more than 2k+ for that game. Why limit it to $150? Are there any laws being broken?

Yes you can't sale the game before the release date. Pre-sale just basically says you have it, but you don't and are guaranteed a copy if they don't run out of supply.
 
My guess is its fake, its not that difficult to make a convincing replica, saw thousands upon thousands in china with my own eyes.
 
Some of the comments on DT are saying it might be a reviewer. Depending on the loopholes of his Non-Disclosure Agreement, it may be possible he did this legally. I doubt Bungie/Microsoft would leave loopholes in their NDAs but it's a possibility at least.

In any case, the buyer's saying he will distro it over torrents.
 
They did the same thing with the french version of the Halo 2 release. It was all over the internet.
 
well folks its real and is already online.
Halo 3 (NTSC) XBOX360 CCCLX is the release group and file title. Go ahead and scour for it, as of right now only private torrent sites are hosting it, like black-cats (proud member!)
its a good thing im a true halo fan, i will not be downloading this. I am waiting. just staying away from the net for spoilers.

Same here, I'm gonna be buying the game when it comes out, I'll have to make my pre-order on amazon soon then...

Damn! No More Legendary editions are available for pre-order, oh well... I guess I can wait a few years.

According to the E-Mail, Halo 3 begins making it's way to stores as early as September 13th. By September 18th, all retail stores should have their copies. Not a huge surprise here though. Who DIDN'T expect this game to ship early?

But here is the news worthy part. With leaks recently of Bioshock and Stranglehold for the 360 by retail chains, GameStop has decided to impose strict penalties for employees who open the shipping cartons before the midnight launch. If you break the tape, even if by accident, you will be fired on the spot. It doesn't matter if you are an hourly peon or the store manager...or even the district manager. If you break the tape, you will be fired.

None in the UK for sale, the 2 game stores we have in the UK are Game and Gamestation, none are doing preorders now for Legendary now, at least thats when I lasted checked.

Yeah >.> But Like I said earlier, in a couple years, The Collectors and Legendary editions will be available in stores as pre-owned and at reduced prices (^_^)
 
I doubt anything but the regular copy will be for sale. The collectors edition and the Legendary edition all have unique things in them that most game stores don't care to get in the hassel with. At least thats how it is at my gamecrazy.
 
The gamestop by my house is still doing preorders for Legendary and Collectors. I stopped in today and traded some shit in to get the 30% bonus and paid my copy off. Don't think im gonna go for the 12 oclock release since i have school the next day, but im off from 9-11 so ill just pick it up then and play some.
