Handling Misconduct (Jan. 22)

I honestly don't see how anyone who plays the game legit can feel sorry for, or make excuses for these people.

You show up week in and week out at events, waiting your turn putting in the work. You farm, craft, KS, whatever for your gil, and these people cheated, knowing they were cheating the entire time and bypassed all the work. I don't see where the sympathy, or feeling they were wronged comes into play.

And honestly to me, what leads to the item is more fulfilling then getting the item itself anyway.

I don't feel sorry for these people at all. The only people I feel sorry for are the legit shell members who suffered as a result of leaders, gil holders and item holders getting banned.

Temporarily suspended isn't banned. It's judgement pending.

I know tons of people who've had 72hr bans (though not for this reason) SE can and does tempban, it was regularly accepted fact that if you got caught with POS/Fleetool/botting, you'd get a 72hr ban for a first offense and perma ban for 2nd offense (some people got multiple temp bans, but that wasn't something you could bet your character on)

so temporarily suspended != tempban?

No, it's not. Temporarily suspended is just what I said... pending judgement. It means they are looking into suspicious activity that may involve these people. Since you like real crime comparisons, say you were in a crowd of folks that committed a crime, maybe even there when it happened. The evidence points to them directly and they go to jail. But you are held for a period of time for further questioning under suspicion of your involvement. You don't get to just go about your merry way while they look into things, you're held on suspicion. You're not being punished for any crime, not yet. You're being held while investigated. Tempban is - hey you're guilty and we're slapping you on the wrist, you'll serve X amount of time and can come back on X date. There is a very large difference.

Ah well forgive me then. I guess I'm not knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the SE justice hierarchy because I don't do the kinds of things that would give me a knowledge of it. This bullshit is missing the whole point regardless which is: SE makes the rules. You willingly break them, it's tough shit for you what they decide is proper punishment. And I'd bet that the people permabanned didn't do said activity once or twice. They deserved it or they wouldn't be gone. Plain and simple. Don't break the rules and you won't risk getting kicked. It's not a hard concept.

Despite the propensity of debate classes to make people pompous. I feel people REALLY ought to have to take it.

Learn how to use logic and argue for your own sakes.

Christ, get off the soap boxes already. This holier than thou bit you two keep putting forth is just ridiculous. Whatever, you are perfect in every single way and have never done anything wrong or cut any corners.

No one is saying those who duped deserve to get off free and clear, I don't know why you are arguing against that idea when no one is arguing for it.

It's ok to act holier than thou, so long as thou art. The only problem with acting high and mighty is the words you have to eat if you fall. QCDN is in the middle of a war of ethics, with the straight and narrow fighting to regain popular support from the cheating sympathizers. For the record, I sit in the "they got what they deserved" camp.

I never said I've never done anything wrong. In fact, I'm the first to admit when I'm wrong. And just because some people or even most people "cut corners," not everyone does. I'm not applying for sainthood either, I make mistakes like everyone else. But the big difference is, I don't fucking cheat. And I don't fucking lie. If I do something wrong, I accept the consequences, and I don't put it on other people, blaming them for being unfair when I know damned well I deserved what I got.

Some people seem to want all the cool gear now, they have no patience for the steady grind all the legit players do to obtain their hearts desires. People that cheat their way to gain things dont enjoy this game the way we all do.

The progression to bettering your character in the game through exp, merits and gear is the main attraction to FFXI, put shortcuts/cheats in and you lessen the overall enjoyment.

Least I think so.

This is like getting banned for Kiting, seriously.

And we all lived happily ever after the end.

The truth is none of us would of done it if we had done anything shady in the past that might jeopordize our accounts so this 'cheating bastards' ideal just doesn't cut it when you mean to acuse us of botting.
We had extremely low claim rates on HNMs because we neither botted nor required our members to dedicate their free time to sitting at a spawn point for days on end, but for some reason killed the same hnms more efficiently and faster than any of the botting ls that seemed to never gain experience from their disproportionate amount of claims.

Many of you would have used the exploit had you known about it.

Additionally none of us would have used it if we hadn't been so disillusioned by SE's failure to be responsive to its player base until it gets caught with its pants down.
i.e. SE announcing that it was increasing the drop rates in some salvage areas as a direct result of so many people exploiting the bug and them finally realizing the unrealistic drop rates in some of these zones. After all, this especially bit us in the ass because we only attempted the zones with extremely rare drop rates like silver seas and arrapago and were hardly rewarded for our efforts even with the glitch in place.

I am not justifying us using the glitch, because honestly I would never had done it if i actually cared much about the game anymore. The point I would like to make is that all of my gear was obtained completely legitimately (aside from one 35 morrigan body piece I will never pay to get the final product) and we never abused any exploit that marginalized another shells capacity to operate.

Just curious, but how is multiplying 1 item to make 3 like kiting? People keep comparing it to kiting, logging for PW, and crap like that, and I just can't see how it's even close to the same.

It isn't. It does, however, show who condones that sort of thing.

Banned for kiting? Come again?

SE considers anything that gives you an edge that wasn't intended to work mechanically an "Exploit." This means that getting mobs stuck on walls so you can nuke them, the old CS!tank trick for CoP and yes, logging for hate, are exploits. That said, I don't think SE is going to monitor all of the PW fights and ban everyone who logs out.

That said, running away from a monster and making it trail you is totally legal. There's no making the game think it doing something its not; The monster behaves legally, traversing terrain legally in an attempt to kill you. When it can no longer do so, the game's "Broken" and therefor action can be taken.

Anyway, back on topic. Cheaters got banned, people who think this is an outrage are retarded, cheaters, or both, and the world is all the better. As someone I was talking to put it, this is like a reverse Rapture where God has removed all the corrupt people from our world instead of leaving them behind.

Its good to be logged on and writing this.

Well, just arguing semantics now. Anyways, who is screaming its an outrage outside of maybe Mara? Most people who were banned say that they are disappointed they were banned but accept the consequences of their actions. Only some of the retards on BG who want to blame SE are saying otherwise.

Banned for kiting? Come again?

Kiting exploits bad mob pathing and allows you to out-run TP attacks. You're using SE's coding to your advantage.

If the salvage thing needed something outside the game to work, like having iTunes playing some Rage Against the Machine behind the game or something, then its outside interference with the game. This was just piss-poor coding on SE's end.

Sure, people who used it were douchebags, but if we banned people for being jerks, we'd have a completely different game.

72hour suspensions for all? Would've been acceptable. Ban't? Nuh uh.

Best would've probably been to just jack all their salvage gear/mythics.

kiting isn't an exploit. If you report someone to a GM for kiting they will just laugh at you.

If they didn't intend for you to kite certain NM's they would give them all draw-in.

I don't see how in your mind duping items = kiting. Duping anything has never been OK in any game. And it isn't because of poor programming. When you program something, you can't possibly foresee every possible outcome of what you program, and without testing you can't find every possible bug. This is an exploit that SE nor the testers had discovered. People say SE are stupid for having left it so long in the game. But guess what? Had people actually REPORTED it instead of exploiting it, SE would have fixed it sooner.
