Has FF XI Changed your opinion of NA or JP?

Let me give you a back ground for why this is on my mind. I'll be needing Water IV soon, so I arranged for 3 others (including a THF with th2) to help me farm this in Beadeaux. After all, it's going for 600k+ at AH right now. We get there and there is another pt also farming the area for keys. Yes, we camp right in the same room with 4 doors, but it's a money mob, not an xp issue so I see no problem with it. However, they complain and we move closer to the entrance and camp a shitty spot where only one of the mobs we need spawns at a time.

About an hour goes by and a lv 74 THF/nin runs through gathering up all the Quadavs in the area. His name is Horihori, and when we check him out his /sea message is in Kanji (Japanese, if you didn't know). A few mins later we get a good part of the train back on us, and I sleepga and escape the group. It seems he zoned at Qulun dome, a blatant MPK attempt on the other pt. They just leave after that, but we are determined to stay. We contact a GM and get 2 results: Jack and Shit.

But hey, the better camp is open, and we start pulling mobs there. It's not long before another full pt, all Japanese, camps on top of us. Was the other guy clearing out the competition for them? I can't say, but it is suspicious. The new party is mostly lv 74-75 and have no problems killing the mobs faster than us, but that's appearently not enough for them. They don't try to MPK us, instead they just train the entire area into that one small room and Sleepga the whole bunch while chewing through the ones they want. Just relate it to the occasional difficulty you have selecting a target in a link situation, and multiple it by about 20. We typically had one mob engaged and one or 2 slept at any time, so I had to use <t> macros; <bt> is just uncertain when you are engaging several mobs at once. Basically, there was no fucking way I could keep the mobs slept, do debuffs and nukes and heal my pt members with that much shit in the room. Sure I could sleepga II, but then I'd eventually have mobs in blue coming after me too. The other pt had no trouble, since it only takes 1-2 lv 75 charaters per Quadav. So... we leave. A few hours of time spent for nothing.

Here's where my question comes into play. I was trying very hard to remind myself that there are assholes all over the world, it has nothing to do with race. I've met plenty of NA players who were just as shitty as these particular JP guys. But after all that, it was a real hard sell, even to myself.

So, NA players... has FF changed your opinion of the Japnese?
And JP players (I know a few of you frequent this board) has FF changed your opinion of NA/Europeans?

From what I know, Horihori is a Chinese gilseller, used to be part of Flood's group. Was MPK'd by them quite a while ago in Cape Terrigan.

Also just a note, Kanji refers to the more complex characters. The word itself means "Chinese Characters" so if it really was in all Kanji, he's probably Chinese since Japanese mix kanji in with hiragana and katakana (altogether called kana.)

Lol Horihori is far from a Chinese gilseller. He may sell gil because he has amassed so much, but he is in fact a JP player. One that is pretty much 90% under the suspicion of botting.

For example, he somehow managed to claim King Behemoth over me using Poison. Poison beating voke. Latency or no latency, Poison does NOT beat voke. He also began casting the spell before the mob even appeared on screen. :/

Does Horihori make all Japanese evil? Does Seppeku make us all assholes? News flash, all Japanese are NOT the same. The Japanese community as a whole do not like some of their most dishonorable members... but what can they do about it? We all hate several NA players but they are still around. Every god damn week someone gets to high level and comes to the realization that there's a high level group of Japanese players that act not a god damn thing like all the ones they met before.
"Oh my god... this guy MPKed me. That JP who helped me get AF1... he must be an asshole too! They are probably cousins! If only they tolerated those assholes less they'd shape up for sure! An online community has the power to remove paying members from PoL of course... right?"

Their the same 2 bunch of assholes they have always been. They are also as awesome as each make each other out to be. The problem here is that when one puts the other on a pedestal, sooner or later that pedestal gets the rug pulled out from under it and you get to see the full picture, without all the eyecandy.

You tend to get real pissed when you see the ugly side of a beautiful dream, but that is reality my friend.

They are human and so are we.

He can have his messege in Kanji if he wants, that isn't an attack on english speakers.

For even at level 74 any job can get beat down in that place by a train. Sleepga/stoneskin is what makes it easy. the guy is a THF and he was probably fleeing for his life.

If they train a bunch of quadavs and sleep them on your camp and start fighting one, that means they are being kind to your party. How hard is it to just takn one of the Quadav ? When the other Quadavs wake up it will go for the one who slept them, which is not you or no one in your party.

If the other party was there you never had to cast Sleepga II, because when they wake up it will not arggro anyone in your party. just take one and leave the rest until the one your party is killing is dead.

You may think they were being assholes, when all you needed to do was not get you and your party killed by casting a ga spell of any kind. Again the quadav's would wake up and arggro them.... then their mage would sleep it, while your party just continue to pick off the quadavs one at a time.

Yes. All the ones i know are very kind, and some of even the most popular ones you see are surprisingly critical about being liked by NA. I reciently took a ride on the mannaclipper with my JPHNMLS. it was an alliance fishing trip. We had one guy crafting bait for us, and the goal was to catch a NM, and we did it. As boring as it may sould, it was actually pleasant. To them it was normal game play it seems, to me it was like a super japan tour vacation casue it feilt like a time for pictures, and everyone was soooo nice.

Just gotta remember that yes, there's buttholes in the game, but there's people like that everywhere you go. Just gotta remember it's only a handful of people on a server holding over 10000...

I'm so afraid to ask where you got that number, unless you're counting mules.

Err..

I have 3 Japanese Players on my Friends list, they think I'm cool, so they are "Trying" to teach me to speak a little Japanese.

So I know for a fact that all Japanese don't hate NA. Personally, I think that most NA players like Japanese PTs better than NA, lol. I can tell you there are less noobs in a Japanese PT, so I know that we are going to do good on the first try and so forth.

I love the Japanese, and some Japanese don't like me, but also alot of NA players don't like me. I can't see why though, I didn't do anything wrong to them. I just asked them for help....Err.....*coughPandatechcough* I can't stand that immature kid.....(>.<)

Hes the type of NA players that make JP hate us....lmao

To actually answer the question, Yes, my opinion of Japanese players have changed. I thought all japanese players were elitests and would be cruel to me as a new NA player. However i was proved wrong on many occassions. Whether it be the 2 kind JP players who helped me find my subjob items or the many japanese i partied with, i now know that i was wrong. Sure there are your gilselling MPKing assholes, but then again that can be said about some NA's too.

FFXI seems to turn me into a worse person that i actually was.NOw i think ppl are trying to flame me in real life.Lol no kidding i get personal real fast... but i'd be back to normal soon

As for them "doing us a favor" Anttaru, it was far from the case. Next time your are fighting DC mobs and a few claimed mobs in blue (that you can't touch) come after you, be sure to thank the other player. That's exactly what was happening to us even without me casting AoE. And yes, even targeting a mob is tough when there are 3 occupying the same space, literally inside each other.

As for Horihori fleeing for his life, I'm sure he was in real danger by virtue of the horde following him, but it was definitely a MPK train. There were smaller Quadavs in the train from outside the cave area, things that he would have used to start the train. Also, as he ran by us, he stopped to use a ranged attack to pick up a mob that didn't link for some reason. Once he had it's attention he ran on.

Finally before anyone labels me "racist", please actually read my post:
Quote myself:

Anttaru, Im sorry but you are taking a fairly obvious situation (its Horihori for crying out loud) and just making it extremely euphemistic.

Most of the problems are a language barrier, if you can talk, you can work things out, compromise and break down cultural stereotypes. I say this because the other group farming was just competition, being able to communicate with one another could have led to a compromise.

My response to the general question: There is still another world outside of Vana and FFXI; the -real- one? The japanese as a whole, I imagine, are different from just the ones that we encouter while we stare at a computer or TV screen and play our video game. My view of JP in game have changed since I first started playing... but I haven't changed my view on their country or community, and I still fully plan to visit Japan in a couple months :D

lol there ARE nice jps, me and nikky did an escort, invited by these super nice jps, they were so kind and generous, teleported to altepa, forgot me and nikky, came back, they all waited at crystal, and they all just all out kind to us, even tho we wereNA^^

in my opinion, i think yall need to stop complaining.. we all pay fo the same shit to play this game.. so what ppl mpk? so what ppl train and do dumb crap.. its all part of a video game that makes us have friends and enemies.. you can't always have what you want.. if everyone got what they want in an instant, in your case, water IV, and there was no one there in the way, i think it would be boring.. i dunno why im saying this, but all i see.. is bitch bitch bitch about JP, NA, gil selling..... just deal with the shit and play..

oh, and to answer your question.. i have no opinion of japanese players.. they have had this game longer than us and i believe they are more experienced.. as the year gone by, more NA players have entered the game acting shady to JPs trying to play hero in a party causing death to a PT and exp loss and many other reasons, which causes them to loathe NA saying "JP only". or "english PT, no thanks".. they are not racist, and they have their reasons, just like you have your reasons for making this post..

Seriously, thanks for reminding us that we as NAs are just as fallible as the Jpns.

This is not a direct attack on jpn players in general so don't mistake it as such. You were not there. He was not fleeing for his life, it was a blatent MPK attempt. He kept weaving in and out of any room he could find quadavs in. Although it is understandable to want to defend someone who cannot defend themselves, you were not there to see what we saw. He did not do it just once, iirc Lazarious can attest that Horihori attempted a couple of times to MPK them.
