Has FF XI Changed your opinion of NA or JP?

i think the only reason my opinion has changed is because when i started the game i was an ignorant player. I thought jp pts were all gonna be the shit. I thought they were all great players. Of course that was silly of me ot think but i did think it.

So personally, i don't think my opinion of them has changed. Just as for NA players, there are shitty ones and good ones.
 
I can imagine how stuff like that makes you feel, and it's very hard to remember that one bad apple doesn't spoil the entire bunch.
However, this game has changed my opinion on Japanese people. I find them much less tolerant than NA's and somewhat arrogant. This of course doesn't mean all NA's aren't those things, but from personl experience that is how JP's seem. This being based almost completely on the quantity of "JP Only" remarks in their comments.
 
Ok well you guys never mentioned how they actually came back trained and zoned again and again.

My reply is no assuption that Osse is a racists in any way, i do support the fact that mistakes happen, and NA and JP have come to share well.

From my personal research i have seen more racism from the Japanese. Seeing an NA member asking for English parties only, is rare, (I've only witnessed it as a brief joke). I can only imagine NA would counter it out of vengance towards the popular "JP Only".

I mean no offense to Japan when i say, i find so many of them to be delicate people, which in term makes them as harmless as the rest of us.
 
It's kindof aggrivating as to how often JP insult NA right in front of their faces in parties, just because they assume the party doesn't understand Japanese. My sister sometimes watches me play and has pointed it out dozens of times, as has my bf while we party from time-to-time..


I'd say my opinion isn't changed since I started playing, but it's just not true - even if it's a small number of people in grand total, there's a LOT more mean/arrogant JP than I thought there'd be.

By the way, I commend the 21MNK with no sub and "NA {Too weak}" in his search comment that was seeking in Qufim yesterday. Way to raise the bar..
 
Thank you, to all of you who actually understood the question and the purpose of this thread. I had my reservations about making this post. I knew it would be a fine line that many people wouldn't get. If you still don't understand, look to the posts by Mishaela, Anttaru (2nd post) and similar ones. This is a question regarding inter-cultural relations, a taboo subject to the socially squeamish, but fair game if handled properly.

At first I put NA ONRY as a joke in my search comment as BLM because I got so frustrated with the way jpn were treating me when they asked me if I wanted to pt and I responded in english. Then immediately 'our party is full' would be the reply and deep frustration would ensue. Now I keep NA ONRY as a my search comment while leveling whm and blm. Since 69 or so I have refused to party with a full jpn party but I will take a mixed pt., ie at least 2/6 members are english speekers.
 
There is alot more hate between NA and JP than i had thought.

Apart from that not much has changed in my opinion of JP. Like firestreak said, there are assholes in both countries.

I do think it was kinda mean that they didn't even give europeans a chance though. While you do not see EU = {Too Weak} i never see any JP with JP/EU ONRY either.

Yeah the racism is mostly 1 way but some NA players have done worse stuff that "NA {No, Thanks}. In fact i have spoken with several NA players who have said stuff like "Abomb {Yes, Please}" or "Abomb+Hiroshima (i can't spell it) = LOL! (or wwww!)". I personally find these comments far worse than "NA = {Too Weak}" and while they should accept that some NA are asshats but not all, you can't blame them that much when they are having things like that said to them.
 
Ok, now for the coup de grace, the real reason for this thread.

If you say that "it's just a game and it doesn't/shouldn't affect perceptions of the other culture," then you are just naive. If you play this game, then you spend a lot of time playing this game--it's just a given. You will judge people by the actions they take. That is not only human, it's only logical.

Only one of three things can happen:
1. Your current feelings are reinforced,
2. You think better of the other culture sharing this game,
3. You think worse of the other culture sharing this game.

Remember that what you do reflects on both who you are as person, and on any group you are a part of: job, LS and your CULTURE. Be careful what image you present.

Why can't one person go into Dynamis and get all his uber gear? It's because this was designed to be a cooperative game.

Sorry to get preachy there, but I am fucking tired of the shitty attitude that so many people have of "It's just a game, I can play however I want." If you really feel that way, then go to the Valley of Sorrow with your level 75 job, set your home point, take off all your gear and delevel down to 4. Then I'll believe that you are somehow above it all and it really doesn't matter to you. Otherwise, make nice and play fair.
 
Horihori is a piece of shit, he can count on me MPKing him anytime i see him. Anttaru please stop posting about JP NA relations when all you do is hang with gilsellers and JPs from the looks of it. So biased it's ridiculous.

Maybe you're JP I don't know or care, but all i ever hear from you is how they are all so nice and friendly. The majority of them are racist bitches that deserve everything they get.

I think Meija is the only downright cool JP i have ever met in this game.

Frankly I completely agree with this.
What I did expect was that JP players would understand theyve had the game longer, and instead of holding us to their standards, they would hold us to our own, and maybe teach us something.
Personally I've done more helpful things for JP than JP have done for me, and it sortof reminds me of the time I escorted someone from France to jeuno one day, and the whole way there he couldn't stop insulting America.

my opinions of other cultures and peoples will never be changed by a game. simply said, it isn't something to judge by...

Well this totally flew over my head when it was made.

There was a time i made friends with someone who turned out to be a gil seller, (that happened to me twice actually and i haven't a reason to be ashamed of it) just because they are a kind of person that is hated by the majority dosn't mean i would turn my back on a person(Like you don't see anyone on the server telling you to go spend more time with your kids, like you should, Vang). Also on a side note i never counter camped any normal player with them ever, as i believed sharing with gil sellers means more gil will stay where it belongs, in game.

I do not hang with Gil sellers, and i do have alot of JP friends in this game. If you want to call me out on that Vang, i can easily correct you by letting you know i reside with an NA linkshell on the most part. And it would make no difference if i spent more time with my JP friends.

All i did was throw in a suggestion about what was written in the first posting of this thread as what it might have been, and look what happens, it's like you want this racist war to happen or something Vang.

I think you should be honored i even took the time to teach you Vang, i usually don't give steriotypes the time of day, especially ones with their minds made up like you.

Meh for every JPN dick I met there has been a NA one. The diffrence is the JPN dicks tend to actualy have skill in the game, compared to the NA assholes who get bored soon enough and go on to an "easier" MMoRPG.
 
Necroed thread. The fact that I started it makes no difference. I wouldn't have worried about it Anttaru, it's old and no one has said anything unkind about you in the interim.
