Recently bought an HDTV, and bought component cables for the Wii, but I don't think somethings working right.

I hooked the wires up correctly, but when I turned it on, all I got was a SD picture, with no sound, and in black and white. The Wii screen options also don't let me select the HD choice (it's greyed out for some reason)

Could anyone help out please?

Well, the Wii can't do HD even with the component cables, but you should be able to set it to 480p through the setup menu. Are you sure you have the cables plugged in correctly? There might also be something wrong with the cable you're using if sound isn't working either.

Well yeah, I know it cant do it like the other 2 systems but the cables are hooked up correctly, but I cannot select the 480p option, it wont let me.

Check the TV's input settings. Component cables have two settings, RGB (red/green/blue colour channels) and YPbPr (Colour, chrominance, and luminance) - the TV should have a setting for the input to select between the two. It's probably set to the wrong one right now.

It's one of those 3-in-1 cables from Gamestop. Its currently hooked up to both the ps3 and the wii. The ps3 part works perfectly, but I dont imagine i'd need to change any cable settings to go to the wii. I also don't think the fact the ps3 is hooked up to it as well would be a problem because the ps3 is off, and it works fine when the wii isn't on, so it should work vice versa right?

Not saying this is your problem for sure, but when I tried to use the HD cables with my Wii, it didn't work... at all. Got it from gamestop as well, I don't think they sell very good cables, but it may be an isolated incident.

Believe I figured out the problem. I can't have both cables hooked into each system at the same time. Going to need a seperate one alltogether for the wii. Thank you everyone for your replies though, much appreciated.
