I've been looking into getting another headset (my puppy decided to make a chew toy out of my last one).

It wasn't anything special, cheap generic brand one, couldn't even say which it was.

Was looking for opinions on some good headsets, what to avoid, etc. I've had a few, never spent too much because I didn't know what to look for. Most seem to work for a while okay, but begin to show problems after I own them for a short time. Some are supposed to have the noise canceling and all sorts of various features that seem to work at various degrees.

I guess what is relevant, I use it for various purposes. I like and use a headset while gaming. I also like using it for conversations with people who live out of state, talk on Skype or other voice-chat programs. More gaming focused though, use it on ventrillo and such.

Just looking for opinions and experiences with what to look into (whether it be brands to avoid, brands that are good quality, or else specific headsets that are good/bad). I'm willing to not get such cheapos anymore as long as I can find a solid/quality/reliable headset, but I would like to make sure I am actually getting my moneys worth and one that will last a while.

Any assistance/thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

I use the Motorola Headset that came with NFL Head Coach lol

Picked up a cheapie MadCatz universal headset for pc/xbox/ps2 and it does fine for me, even though I hate madcatz products, but I didn't expect much for about $10, but it does just fine, I think the one I bought(used) has a minor voice tweak in it that makes me sound odd at times, and a stormtrooper the rest of the time XD (that part just could be me ^^; )

I had a Logitech headset and it broke about a week after I bought it. The thing broke in such a way that there was no way to fix it short of buying a soldering gun. My mic wouldn't work at all and I could only hear sound in one ear. I ditched headsets altogether and now just use my nice 5.1 surround speakers again, and have a directional button mic that sticks onto the edge of my monitor.

Haha, yeah, never had much luck with logitech headsets, thankfully not me, but my friend had a similar experience to you.

How does a directional button mic work for you? Personally, the ones I've always used have had less than desirable results, they don't seem effective/last, maybe that's just me.

My only real problem I generally have with headsets of any sort is that something always goes wrong, at least one thing after the first week or two. I always end up giving off a lot of static from my end from a faulty mic, or one of the ears stops giving sound (last one did this in the left ear, drove me insane). Something like that. Isn't like I don't care of my stuff, puppy getting into my last one was mostly due to me not caring about it anymore. It had too many problems I was tired of dealing with and needed replacing.

My brother used one of those, it worked fine for a while but didn't last, and he's really good about taking care of his things. Though with that price we didn't expect much.

My directional mic works great. Noone on teamspeak has had any trouble hearing what I'm saying, or getting feedback from my end. My only complaint is that the sticky pad they gave me stopped sticking after about a month, so I have my mic propped up on my desk until I get some superglue or something to fix that.

I just got a Plantronics audio 350 or something and its awesome. Nice and padded, sound is bomb and has some sound canceling. The one i had before it was plantronic's mic too, don't remember which, it was pretty good too. Both were in the 30$ range i believe, really good for the price. Nothing to fancy but not a P.O.S either.
