Health care discussion

You know, I'm honestly at the point where I say we should, in a civil manner, divide up the country.

Those who want big government, welfare, socialized medicine, and a command economy can have one half.

Those who want small government, private charity, a deregulated health insurance industry, and a free market economy can have the other half.

This isn't a "let's have the south secede again" or a "neo civil war" bullshit thought. I honestly think we should just agree to disagree and have the country go it's separate ways. We can figure out where the geographic dividing lines will be and give everyone something like 5 years to move to one side or the other.

The Conservative States of America and the Progressive States of America... I like the sound of that.

Sweet.... i dont even have to move

although... i would be happy If it were just Arizona, Texas and the Southern half of New Mexico. Possibly also Oklahoma... but only if they shut up about the sooners constantly.

I saw a bumper sticker today that expressed my exact sentiments on the issues. It read, "I'll keep my guns and my health care, you can keep the change."

I've seen the "I'll keep my money and my guns, you can keep the change" before, but not this one.

BOOMER.....

:D

(Nah, I'm right there with you. I may live in OK, but I was born in Texas, and if I have to hear that damned song one more time I swear my head's going to explode.)

What would that look like? All the Conservatives and all the Progressives in their respective states/regions?

People would just become more finely divided. I’ve never met anyone who is 100% in alignment with any political ideology. People think they’re in agreement until the common enemy disappears. Then, faced with each other, they’d start looking around and noticing the differences.

Public safety vs. individual’s rights, Creationists vs. "personal Christians", privacy rights vs. moral mandates. Just how deregulated can a business be before it becomes a public safety issue? Do all conservatives love Sarah Palin? Of course not.

The progressives would have government regulations but argue over adequate punishments for illegal business activities. I doubt there would ever be agreement regarding the size/function of the military as well as when/if war is justified. There are plenty of progressives/liberals I wouldn’t care to share a neighborhood with. I don’t need anyone harping on me about my carbon footprint or telling me I shouldn’t wear the leather Birkenstocks…..

And let’s face it. From either side, there’s always some asshole who thinks he’s speaking for god….

It's kinda fun to think about, but I don't see it working in the long run.

yay... 1502 pages... time to start reading... for today i think ill try to get through the table of contents... thats 13 pages alone.

And those who vote on it will never read it, much like the stimulus bill.

So much for "72 hours online" to read the bills, and so much for the debates being broadcast on CSPAN. How many of his 400+ campaign promises has he even gone through with?

Obama's still got a long way to go to earn gold stars across the board, but at least it looks like his making good on his promise toward a more sane drug policy in this country by telling the Justice Department to stop arresting and prosecuting medical marijuana users/growers who are following state laws.

The War on Drugs™ is a huge waste of resources, and I'm shocked to see any progress -- no matter how small -- made toward ending the farce. Not arresting patients seeking relief is a start.

Sec. 1804. Restoration of funding for abstinence education.

For fucks sake, why continue teaching children lies?

Sec. 1922. Protection of access to quality health care through the Department
of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense.

Bahahaha, oh god. The VA is a shithole; comprised of idiots, uncaring tools, and general disregard for the well-being of those who volunteer for this country. They're a business too, they hire people to go through a veterans file and look for ways to lower their service-connected rating. Fuck those dirtbags.

This thing contains so many provisions that will hurt businesses it's not even funny. Not that HMOs are a good thing.

Progressivism is stupid.

No stars for reminding the Justice Department of the 10th amendment!

Both the "War on Drugs" and HMOs are nixon's fuck ups, we should really void everything he did.
