HOLLYWOOD COMMUNITY SHOCKED AS ACADEMY SNUBS KUTCHER
Students from Kutcher’s acting class plan to protest at Oscars

Hollywood - As the nominees for the Academy Awards were announced last week, favorite Ashton Kutcher failed to capture a Best Actor nomination, leaving the Hollywood community stunned. Kutcher’s inspiring performance in 2004’s “The Butterfly Effect” moved critics and audiences alike, and most observers believed Kutcher was a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination. “I can’t believe Jamie Foxx got a nomination for that ‘Ray’ movie but Ashton got completely ignored,” says New York Times critic Walter Henson. “It’s a slap in the face to any actor who pours out his soul on the big screen and touches a nation with his incredible talent.”

In “The Butterfly Effect,” Kutcher plays Evan Treborn whose ability to re-create the past keeps making the present worse. Every change he makes reverberates through other lives as well.

“It’s always an honor to be nominated by the Academy,” says Clint Eastwood who received a Best Actor nomination for his performance in “Million Dollar Baby.” “I got up at five a.m. to watch the announcements. When I saw and heard my name I was obviously happy. But it soon became a bittersweet experience when I didn’t see Ashton’s name come up on the screen. I was confused. I thought it was some sort of mistake. Poor bastard. I hope he recovers from this.”

Kutcher, who was interviewed on “The Insider,” told Pat O’Brien that he is content with the fact that he was able to give the performance of a lifetime. He says his career is not about winning awards, but about honing his craft.

“If we start focusing on getting awards then we as actors will quickly lose our way,” said Kutcher. “I learned my lesson in 2003 when I thought I was going to win Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice award for Favorite Male Movie Actor, and I was beat out by Frankie Muniz. After several months of depression and intense Kabbalah therapy, I was able to get past this whole awards season silliness.”

Kutcher now looks at himself as a rare kind of actor who is willing to shed all that is manipulative, extraneous and false.

“It’s about my essence,” said Kutcher. “It’s about exploring the moments. That’s what I’ve been telling my students for these last few months. An exceptional acting performance is about being willing to stay right there with the emotional heat without becoming self-indulgent.”

Kutcher has been teaching a graduate acting course at the Actors Studio Drama School for the last few months. His students have written a letter in protest to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

“Besides the letter, we plan on being outside the Kodak Theater to protest this injustice,” says Kutcher’s student William Kalen. “Kutcher is mesmerizing. He has matured so much as an actor. The Academy already owes him one for ‘Just Married’ (2003) and don’t think we’re done with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for its failure to recognize Kutcher’s small screen magic.”

Kutcher’s fans in Los Angeles have already started protesting outside the homes of Academy voters, and there have been several arrests. One Academy voter snapped at a protester, saying Kutcher “is the worst actor in Hollywood.” The Academy member, Bernard Listow, 83 years old of West L.A., was punched in the mouth by a protester, Kenny Filmore, 25, of Burbank. He was charged with assault and battery.

Don Cheadle, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in “Hotel Rwanda,” says he has been disheartened by the entire Kutcher ordeal.

“I learned a lot about human tragedy while making ‘Hotel Rwanda.’ However, I can honestly say that leaving Ashton out of this category is a real tragedy Hollywood has never encountered before. If I win the Academy Award, I will hand it over to Ashton.”

 Oh wait! This isn't from The Onion? This couldn't be real could it?

I liked the Butterfly Effect and was impressed with Kutcher but it was nowhere near Oscar worthy. I think I was more impressed because of low expectations more so than him just blowing me away.

I still say Jamie Foxx best performance was in Redemption although Ray was a great movie.

lol I hated the Butterfly Effect. He needs to stick with That 70's Show.

I saw that everything was linked from datelinehollywood which threw me for a loop. I never heard of that website.
