Kinda torn on this game.

The preview movies from way back in the day looked unbelievable, swords + robots + churches + hot chicks all in 3 minutes of CG goodness.

Then the gameplay video came out... been losing interest ever since. It's a cool concept - FPS-style Diablo2 modernized - but it doesn't look like what I wanted it to I guess. I was expecting something like Oblivion I think, with more depth and environmental effects.

Not to knock it - still looks like a stellar title and it's definitely on my hitlist.

I wonder what requirements it will take to run this game without too much lag.

Got my download link, played it last night and today. Doesn't seem like the requirements are that bad, I got a pretty mediocre system and mine runs it fine, 256mb nvidia gforce 5600, 1.8 ghz amd 64 2800+ and about a gig of ram.

Nice. Any hint at the offline mode or is the beta strictly online?

Beta is strictly online. but i get the feeling theres gonna be an offline part of the game to cause on the beta you have to click "Multi-player" in the menu. Theres just no "Single player" button. Also you'll be able to play online for free i've heard, you'll just have much smaller bags and less access to certian parts i think.

Online is free and there is a single player. However, you can pay to play and get exclusive content that free users don't get.

I was really excited for this game, but everyday is just seems to get crappier and crappier.

I preordered this and have been playing the beta for a couple days. I'm playing a marksman character. It's interesting how they've got it setup, and it runs pretty well on my computer, but I don't see it pulling me in like Diablo 2 can still do. I'll probably buy it anyway since I really like games you can pick up, play for 30-60 minutes, and put down.

My computer specs are...
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
MB: Asus A8N32-SLI
RAM: 2gb PC3200
VIDEO: Geforce 6800 GS

By default, the game sets all of the options to "very high," or "high" if very high isn't available. I like to play in 1680x1050 widescreen mode, but my video card can't really keep up, so I just bumped it down to 1024x768 and it runs pretty well. Turning on some of the lighting options, which it doesn't automatically turn on, will bog it down a bit, too.

I really need to upgrade my video card to an 8800 soon, though, for Unreal Tournament 3 and Assassin's Creed... and maybe Team Fortress 2.

I've been reading what people have to say in Beta and alot of people are upset with this game. Most are saying it's not even close to Diablo 2 in fun factor or even Titan Quest at that.

What exactly doesn't make it as fun? I mean.. if you think about Diablo in general.. it really shouldn't be AS fun as it felt.. All you did was click maybe.. 1 or 2 buttons. lol.. *shrugs*

Im not sure to tell you the truth, I haven't played it. I just read some beta forums and people don't like it as much. Not all games in the "hack n slash" and "loot grinding" genre are popular other then Diablo. The only other one I can think of that is kinda popular is Titan Quest.

Maybe the game doesn't play as smooth? Too bland? Not enough gear? I don't know. Maybe some of the people playing beta here can tell us why?

When I saw the trailer it looked cool, a shooter/dungeon crawler game. But the game would probably only would appeal to those Diablo fans. The repeated hack and slash with the occasional area effect spell doesn't appeal to everyone. I would probably buy it cheap later on since I'm a cheap bastard. >.>

I just got a "Congratulations, you've been selected for the Hellgate London beta" email. I must have applied online for it and forgot about it. Exciting.

Runs off to check his e-mail for the first time in a month.

I'm in the beta and I dig it thoroughly. As with all games in beta state it's a little clunky here and there, but so far I've had no kicks or crashes. All I've really scaled back on are the shadows and distance (medium) and lag is only really noticeable in the hub stations, and if I group with 2 others it tends to chop a tad in the instanced zones.
The only thing I find really odd is the easy procurement of epic and legendary items, however, I think that the challenge will lie in obtaining the best mods for said items.

Sys specs:
P4 3.08 Ghz
2gb ddr2 667
Nvidia 7600GS AGP8X 512MB w/DVI out to HDTV @1024x768 w/ latest forceware

Nerghul - Blademaster
Leveticus - Summoner
Apostacy - Marksman

my husband played the beta, and he already pre-ordered the game, it does look fun. I mean, who doesn't adore zombies?

The single player demo was pretty boring. I noticed dungeon designs being recycled in the demo even though there isn't a ton of content included. I will admit I got a little acquisition adrenaline when I picked up a legendary "orange" chest piece. I was able to run the game at a resolution of 1920x1200 on max settings with a 7800GT, AMD 4800 proc, and 2GB of ram. I found a lot of places that I fell through the ground but it was done that you you respawn at the entrance instead of just being stuck where you were, so that wasn't too irritating.

The mob repopulation timer seemed a little too high as well. Once to the subway I would go through 2 instances, try to go back to the first and there would be no mobs respawned.

I've had a minor interest in this game, but read this just a bit ago.

Not going anywhere near it.

tl;dr: The game has adware which you agree to let scan your entire computer for advertisement purposes, among other things, which EA can then share with anyone they like. This will happen on a game that has been paid for.

EA needs to die in a fire.

Yeah I found out about that after I already installed the game.

Not reading the agreement before installation ftl.
