So I got a virus Sunday and had to reformat my computer. I had no problems with sound before, worked just fine. Now suddenly I have no sound. We tried installing the drivers but it says the hardware isnt there so it wont do anything. Any ideas anyone? Any help would be great. Oh and Apoc says to make sure I put that the Soundcard is built in to the motherboard!

reset your CMOS jumper on the motherboard. It sets all hardware back to default in your BIOS so if it came with the mobo it would be there. as for HOW to reset CMOS its usually a jumper on the bottom of the board, more instruction is usually sitting around inside the case for your help.

I'm assuming this is on-board audio. If so, check your BIOS. The audio might be turned off. If you're unsure, you can always do the "reset to default" option in the bios.

If it's a PCI card, pull it out and reseat it.

Check if the volume is up or the mute is not on.

And no i'm not calling you dumb, you would be suprised how often this happens.

Otherwise uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

Oh. Also there is an HD audio windows update that you sometimes need to uninstall.

I had this problem recently.

There is an updated windows update, but you need to call microsoft to recieve it.
