So a friend of mine installed a screen saver program from the web, and it also installed a "mywebsearch" toolbar on internet explorer. After uninstalling the application, everytime on startup it looks for a certain .dll file from the mywebsearch folder that was uninstalled. I vaguely remember a way to bring up a list of programs that started up with your computer (ie Windows messenger, Yahoo messenger, etc) and the ability to click which one you want to have start up. I believe this will solve the issue momentarily so if anyone can give input...I'd appreciate it!

Much love,

Mir

likewise, you might want to run a search through your registry and delete keys concerning "mywebsearch".

Fantastic, msconfig was what I was looking for. :) Thank you very much.

Tristam, this "friend" is actually my new boss...I'm not 100% comfortable with registry edits just yet and I would fear deleting something she needed!

Back it up prior to making changes :-|

Do it anyway! No time like the present to go jacking around with the Windows Registry :awesome:

I thought you were gay?

He's Kotsu - which I think loosely translated from the original Kotsese means "whatever he wants to be on any given day".

Re-image the entire computer, it's the only way to be safe :dur:

Just make sure not to back up anything. Backing up things is for the birds!

Put hijackthis on the pc, run it, and get someone who knows what they are doing to examine the log afterwards. By far the best way to quickly clean up a pc.

I wish you had not said quickly ;_; cause then I would be able to say "reinstall windows and tell her to never go near the computer again."
