OK im a OLD ffxi player i loved it but then i stopped playing because i started playing world of warcrft, dont get me wrong FFXi is a great fantastic game but imagine FFXI on STEROIDS i mean World of Warcraft is rich and full of fights, its more quest based and you dont have to sit around hours and hours just to level, ive been playing for 2 weeks and just hit 26 with my hunter, this game is rich in the fighing of PVP... Just last night i got in my first major PVP battle and i must say HOLY CRAP!!!!! it was really cool to get in a fight with antoher player (something u cant do in FFXI intill your a high level, ballista?) and u can pretty much have as many characters you want.. I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THE GAME and all i can say is i didnt know what people were saying till i tried it my self, i heard 50% of people say FFXI is better than W0W and ive heard 50% say WOW is better.. well heres my say and i say Wow and ffxi are both equaly as good but the fact taht WOW has the ability to level easier and you can FIGHT other players at any level makes it more favorable, well thats all i have to say! (NOTE: THIS WAS NOT MENT TO OFFEND ANY ONE, THIS IS JUST WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE FIGHTING OF WHICH GAME IS WHICH)

I play WoW with friends, it's a fun game to be sure, but I still like XI better. If you're only going to play for an hour or two at a time, WoW might be a better choice, but after that the game just gets boring to do. I've spent hours playing it without talking to ANYONE, just because there was no one to talk to.

Yes you can solo and get exp that way, but that's because even if you're duoing with a friend, exp is shit off mobs. My friend and I were fighting the highest mobs we could at our level while duoing, and only got about 80 exp a kill, and that was with barely survivng the fights.

Crafting is a joke, it's ridiculusly easy to level, but you're restricted to leveling only 2 crafts period. My big complaint on the game is that you're limited in race/class. Only certain races can be certain classes, which sucks. Wow is fun, but I'll only play with friends or during XI maintainence.

I find this so funny because there are people who only play FFXI during WoW maintenance.

My friend wants me to get into WoW. However, there are a lot of draws to WoW, but the Warcraft universe doesn't really appeal to me. If all I'm looking for is playstyle and levelling, then I'd find a game specifically for that. I pick FFXI because I love the FF universe. The Warcraft universe is kind of a "Ya, I'd play that if nothing else came up." With that being said, there are limits. Even star wars fanatics are upset with the Star Wars Universe. Now if they had a Starcraft MMORPG, I think I'd be in a dilemma....

Heh, WoW goes down so often, they could be 75 by now if they played during WoW downtime lol

I play WoW on my free time but not on main servers  feels more like solo then anything all and all they both fun i was like wow 600exp on a level 1mob when i killed somthing they both have their different styles hell if you could catergorize MMOs FF11 would be in another and WoW would be with everquest in a way.

I say with everquest since you get exp from quests etc.

I repayed for WoW the other day, it amazed me once again how boring the game is. I'd rather be sitting around for hours on seek then be playing WoW, for some reason i absolotly hate it.

WoW = Easiest MMORPG out there..

That's why my friend likes it so much, it's too easy..

FFXI is too hard for him, so WoW is perfect for him..

I played it for.. Let's see.. 10 mins? It got boring really fast..

I've seen my friend(and my sister ._.) play that game too much..

My sister(SISTER) for crying out loud, she's not even a gamer..

She has like 3 chars at max level on that game..

It's too easy..

FFXI offers a lot that wow doesnt. Mostly on the social level. Linkshells, LFG tags and even the battle system revolving around skillchains and magic bursts... everything in the game requires the people to work as one. In a party wipe theres no time that it is a single person's fault. You live and die together. Also switching jobs is just too good.

ffxi's issues are gillselling, rampant inflation, crafting not truly acessable by the majority...

WoW offers many other things. Mostly on the gameplay level. You are dependant on YOU. This is nice because theres no real LFG except for dungeons, but you lose the whole social aspect even if in a large guild. Even on 40 man alliances in big dungeons, what you do is your own priority. Each person focuses on himself only, theres teamwork but its... limited.

Having played both games to HNM/Raid level content, I honestly preferred FFXI. Mostly because of jobswitching. Any time I make a new character (wow) almost anything I do to better it as a character needs to be done on that character only. All decent armor is 'BoP' or 'BoE' which means its either Ra/Ex or becomes Ra/Ex on equip. That means i cant give my mage's robe to my priest. Theres more items and the cost isnt terrible but theres no real connection between characters on your account. Why should my friends need to remember all 14 of my character's names :(

they are both great games. I figure WoW will become a economical mess when its as old as FFXI too. I don't hate or favor one or the other anymore. Pick your poison :) damn MMo's

I played both. Personally, I find WoW to be more restricting depsite the fact it's streamlined. The difficulty is much lower to me as well.

Then you got SKILLCHAINS!!! Blizzard has had so long to study FFXI and rip off it's good aspects, so why the hell are there no skillchains or magic bursts?

The refined pt system of FFXI will continue to save it in the eyes of even those who loathe it's level grind and other tasks.

yea :p

If i could i would play both :( FFXI does have alot of stuff that WOW does not have you are right but the thing WOW has is the PVP aspect :) thats what makes it fun... who knows maybe ill stop playing this in a few months and come back... I dont know, but i do no that FFXI is too hard i played for 2 months and i got to 30 in ffxi i played for 2 weeks and got to 25 inf WOW... another good thing is .... NO XP LOSS WHEN DIEING... yea i do miss ffxi but i kinda go sick of my friends saying to stop playing it cuz it sucks :( i also love WOW because you can dance O.O in ffxi only taru tarus can "dance" but only with panic motion, in WOW you can LITERALY dance lol the dwarf umpa loompas the human does the Elvis jig night elves dance like theres strippers and the gnomes are just -_- i dunno but lol tahts all i gotta say

i played WoW for a few hours, and its kinda fun.....but its sort of generic....which i felt the same way about EQ, it seemed very generic.

Too me, FFXI seems very unique in the aspect that you NEED people to succeed in this game...only one other MMORPG i can think of is similar in that aspect, and thats SWG(simply because you need other players to buff you and other players sell stuff).

But with FFXI, you need teamwork.....and lots of people dont like that...but if you have liked any other FF game, how many times do you fight stuff with one character? huh? yeah! all FFs have parties....so it makes perfect sense to have parties in this one.

As for the PVP, i think Ballista is a great imporvement on PVP...it takes it to the next level, giving players more to do then to just whack eachother....

and with the new Ballista areas coming out...perhaps even more PVP action will be put in FFXI.....

Long Live XI!

I play WoW when i am in the internet cafe with my bunch of friend there. [They are also from Ifrit Server]
I play WoW when FFXI is boring
WoW is too repetitive... Quest EXP. Quest EXP. Lvl. Ganked. Well that is what you get at pre-50 lol
Then I break for a while for few days, and play WoW again *exp doubled for a while lol... something about rested exp don't know what you guys call that*
*Sparky take me on your journey please with your Genbu character  I am lonely in Ashenvlae. My pet bear *Pooh* eating a lot of my meat.*

I messed around with WoW on a friend's account for a little while, and to be honest, I didn't much care for it. Too... cartoony was the word that first leapt to mind. That and for the most part, people were a LOT less polite.

I play both WoW and FFXI. From a female perspective, I really prefer FFXI!! In just the first couple hours of playing WoW, I started getting harassed by a moronic player who kept requesting duels with my hubby over me (despite informing him of our relationship) and making rather lewd comments. My son loves to watch us play MMORPGs (he'd love to be a ninja taru but he's 8). Imagine what it was like from a mom's perspective for a sec when my son starts seeing all these comments being directed at his mom... Sad to say, it wasn't the last time that it happened either. This is the MAJOR reason why I prefer FFXI over WoW. Seems to have a wee bit more maturity :P

WoW is great, however, if you don't want to wait around for hours to level, can't stand collecting crystals for crafting and want exp from quests. I'd agree that WoW is definitely more restrictive and too easy. I have alot of fun levelling up a variety of jobs for my FFXI character (which makes for a more well-rounded, better char imo). Can't do that with WoW. Want to have multiple crafts? Well, you can't do that either.

But the feeling that you're really at war is awesome. I went PVP at lvl 20. I would love to see FFXI actually have beastmen raids on some of the towns. Would probably do something about all those fishing bots too...

Two of my friends went to WoW, without having even played FFXI. One of my best friends that I've known for 11years says WoW is the most amazing game ever. His step brother, another good friend of mine, maxed 2 crafts and his level in a rediculous amount of time, got bored and was bitching he couldn't get his money back.

So moral of the story, different people like different things.

I'd so be on WoW right now if it weren't for some things =P

Honestly.

I think for alot of the people who frequent this board, WoW probably IS too easy. For a true casual player like myself, though, it works out pretty well. I don't need to put in 3 hour or more sessions just to get anything done.

Also, WoW is an Explorer's dream. The world is huge and filled with interesting things to see in every nook and cranny. I can't count how many times I've been running somewhere and gotten sidetracked because I spotted some small path going off to somewhere I've never been before.

I also enjoy the occasional PVP and instanced dungeons. It's nice that you can get in a group and actually have the journey through the dungeon being the whole point of the party, rather than just reaching a particular spot and then plopping down and waiting for respawns. The XP you acquire on the way is just a great bonus.

I'm thinking of using my savings money to pay for WoW, so that I can play during the week being that FFXI is off-limits to me during that time.

Need to read up on the payment plans..

WoW is fun, FFXI is fun... I play WoW mainly now, and I have about 12 days of gameplay (89 days of ffxi played?) and I'm already 52 with my Warrior. With FFXI, I played for about a year before I quit (DAMN HAUBERGEON!!! DIEEEEE) and only got to 66 with my Samurai. Now, I quit FFXI because I couldn't get an item... not because I got bored. With WoW, I have a feeling that when I hit 60 and get all my valor gear, I'm going to be aching for something new (starting a new character isn't fun for me) so I'll probably end up crawling back to FFXI :D (I retrieved my account like 5 days before the 3 months were up... hehe)

WoW just seems like its more for the casual gamer, or the really hardcore gamers that enjoy having all the jobs at max level with 'uber' equipment.

FFXI seems like its more for the dedicated and patient types of gamers who enjoy working on ONE character.
