Here's to Real People with REAL Talent

Yes, with age comes vibrato. I sound like a Welsh choir boy when I'm singing opera, but I can go falsetto. My grandmother used to have an amazing voice, still does but because she's 80, hers vibrates too much.

When I saw this, what really got me was the disgust of the crowds reaction at first glance. That is a damn shame, yet its the way of the world. People judging other people without knowing them or even wanting to based upon appearance.

Even if shes not a "professional singer", or not that great a singer to some, Good for her for not giving a crap what other people think of her. If there is anything to admire, its that.

Complaining about omg its everywhere, i'm so sick of it! is sad also. Frankly, I'm sick about hearing about what celebrity did what and where, but that doesn't seem to be stopping on TV anytime soon either. Its nice when you hear about the good since we so often only feel it nessesary to only mention the bad in life.

I'm not faulting her for her overnight fame. I'm just sick of hearing about it everywhere. Even at work, one of my coworkers played it 4 times today. She wouldn't stop talking about it and whenever someone asked her what she was talking about, she would show them. With full volume. She sits right next to me. I know this isn't the singers fault, it's media. I am also disgusted at the reaction to her when she stepped out on stage, appearance has no bearing on vocal talent. I just don't need to hear about it every day and how glorious it is. It was nice, she has a nice voice, it was not expected. Take it for what it's worth, a good performance.

Well, I'd be annoyed too if someone kept playing it over and over and over right next to me.

I think people like the fairytale stories provided by shows like this (Pop Idol, X Factor, American Idol, Britain/America's Got Talent), and this is just another example. I don't know if it's the same on American Idol, but nowadays on every series of shows such as the X-factor, each remotely talented person has their own sob-story making the journey to stardom with them, living the dream for "insert recently deceased relative."

It's as much a part of the show as the talent is, it's what makes the people sitting on their sofa's watching the TV keep watching. She wasn't just someone who came on stage and had a nice voice. She was a 40-something virgin (irrelevant to many but somehow we had to know) who had never been kissed, looked like the Ugly Duckling, and proceeded to make everyone think twice about judging people on looks alone (at least for the rest of that day anyway.) As at least one of the judges said iirc, everyone judged her when she walked on stage, but you can bet that the people watching felt pretty good watching that woman sing well. I don't believe she has a world class voice, but she has a good voice, she's an unlikely winner which is usually the kind of person who wins these contests, and people like her because of how badly they treated her when she came on stage.

Comparing her to Paul Potts can't really be done, they have different voices completely (aside from gender), but their stories are quite similar, as Potts was a fat bloke who worked in Phones4U or something and didn't look very talented to most people when he walked on stage. He went on to win, and people remember that. I, however, don't think she'll win. My money's on a young welsh boy with the weirdest name I've ever seen, and a pretty good voice too.

No, my E-gina is bigger!

Paul Potts isn't as good as people make him see. I mean, sure, he's good, but he wasn't the most amazing singer in the world. imo Susan Boyle is better.

As for going off key, Paul Potts did it too. You're nervous when you stand on stage like that. Listen to this one for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8r9lRJ6yHY

That video is much better, partly due to no audience ruining her singing with their screams.

I didn't look at this before because I thought it was a redo of the song she already sang but... that's not her singing.

It *supposedly* was a from CD she was in for a church fundraiser. Do you recall them asking her why she has never sang before and she said it was because she "was never given an opportunity"?

Aside from that, you can't tell me you don't hear the gigantic difference in tone, range and actual voice. That sounds nothing like her. If somehow it is in fact her singing, it only goes to show how much better people can sound when digitally remastered.

Wasn't the question why she's never sung in front of a crowd before?

I'm not sure I understand the link between physical looks and voice talent. I don't want to hear a really hot chick with no talent singing. But I don't want to bang a real dog with a great voice. So either the point of all of this is that people in England are stupid, by believing that an ugly chick automatically can't sing, or the point is that now that they hear their voice they want to gang bang her? I don't get it. What has been proven?

That you can admire someone's voice without wanting to fuck them? D:

Hmmmm... I believe BW says there are no women on the internet. I believe it's right along the same lines, as well as good looking women don't play video games. I wish I had a quarter for everytime I heard that.

Now, I am at fault for assumptions. When I go to karaoke and see a big girl get up to sing, I often tend to expect an awesome set of lungs, but my assumptions have been proven wrong many times now, so I just don't assume.

Not sure when this was in doubt. I love listening to "Across the Universe" but I don't want to get gang banged by the Beatles.

I think it's common knowledge at this point there's only one expectation you can have with a girl and her skills related to her mouth based on her size. Personally, I can't speak to that, but there's some logic behind that at least.

She can sing, good for her. I'm more amazed by the fact that the woman has no idea what a hairbrush and tweezers are. And don't even get me started on the color of her hose!

Don't forget a toothbrush.

Everything can be fixed with regular grooming.

i just cant believe so many people out there prejudge someone based on their looks. its beyond me how many assumptions are made about someone because they arent as tall or as skinny as someone.

kind of a shame.

she can sing, but only on the radio.

I don't understand the correlation between voice and appearance either. But it works the other way too, should someone win just because they shocked people by being able to sing dispite their appearance (as mentioned earlier, there is no rationality behind that).

Les Mis is coming to Vancouver and apparently since this woman came on YouTube, their sales have doubled. Good for Les Mis, but that's not a reason you should see an entire musical. People are so easily impressed.
