I hope that's your idea of a sick joke. If you think I have any form of... "luck" then you're sorely mistaken.
It's a compliment to both of you, and not even a back-handed one; it's straight up. I did attempt to make it humorous, maybe that was my mistake. Either way, don't read too much into it.
But basically, this is a game of part luck and part skill. Killing a nasty HNM or beating a BC (especially with reduced numbers) is all skill. Getting anything decent to drop, and to some extent even getting claim on a mob with 200 other people all using pretty much the same tactics as you, is luck of some sort. Anything anyone has that they didn't buy and that isn't a 100% drop is, at least in part, luck.
I bought the Iqira Weskit with money from the sale of Enk. Bracers back when the Weskit was 4M gil and it was pretty pimp to have one. I beat a RMT CC to the claim, which was a little bit of skill. Killing the NM was also a little bit of skill, since I was a BLM with 6 Gigas beating on me and I couldn't use any AoE spells or WS's (both reduce the drop rate). Having the bracers drop was pure luck. That was the only NM drop I ever got, even with TH2 later on; and I claimed and killed well over 100 NMs before I gave up on the whole camping thing.
I still remember the FN days with an occasional happy comment from you about how you got an expensive item here and there for 100 gil while playing at the AH. I remember you getting a few good drops from some NMs that you camped. I'm not degrading your skill or determination at all by saying you have had a spot of luck here and there. I'm just acknowledging a mathematical fact, and trying to be humorous while doing it.
